Hello, I'm looking to make a workstation PC for Adobe (PS, Illustrator, After Effects) any help would be greatly appreciated!

2020.11.28 04:35 black_inklines Hello, I'm looking to make a workstation PC for Adobe (PS, Illustrator, After Effects) any help would be greatly appreciated!

>**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
Primary usage would be Photoshop (large files), Illustrator, After effects. Graphic Design and digital painting. I use a Wacom tablet, I hate lag between the tablet and the screen.
Gaming is secondary, I might play fallout 4 or similar games on there, maybe Diablo 4 when it gets released (2049)? I don't care about max settings for games.

>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
I have a 2018 MacBook Pro though adequate it is not enough, my budget it kinda open.
-2.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
-32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
-Radeon Pro 555X 4 GB
Is $2000 to $2500 enough to outperform the MacBook Pro?

>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

Soon, but from what I've seen online getting a high end CPU is a minor miracle right now.

>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**

Just the PC.

>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**

Los Angeles CA, nearest Micro Center is 45 miles away. Most likely I will order stuff online.

>**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**

I have an old HP LP2475w monitor I can use for now.

>**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**

Don't know enough about this, I don't think so.

>**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

I have a Lacie 4 TB external HD I plan to use for storage, I would like to stick with SSD storage for the tower I'm thinking 2 TB? For OS and programs and a couple of games.

>**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

Functionality over aesthetics, but I am not opposed to a nice colored case.

>**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**

I would need Windows 10.

>**I don't have wired internet connection, I need a Wifi adapter.**

Thank you all for your help and dedication, I am very clueless about hardware stuff.

2020.11.23 18:31 PoroxDE Who is Annisokay?

[Source] According to their own website
The German Rock / Metal band is releasing its fifth studio album »Aurora« in 2020 and is reinventing themselves. Old braids were literally cut off and a new front man brought on board. The musical foundation has remained. Heavy guitar riffs and driving drum rhythms, paired with a mix of melodic goosebumps singing and aggressive shouts. Rudi Schwarzer is now responsible for the latter. The new front man was already able to convince the fans live. ANNISOKAY played the X-Mas Bash Tour together with the EMIL BULLS in winter 2019. In winter 2020 the new album »Aurora« will follow in a completely new guise. As usual, guitarist and singer Christoph Wieczorek is in charge of the production, whose charismatic and melodic voice will continue to provide goosebumps. The quartet is completed by the rhythm group, consisting of drummer Nico Vaeen and bassist Norbert Kayo.
ANNISOKAY was founded in 2007 and has since been considered one of the most talented German bands with an international flair. The band has already played successful tours in Europe, Great Britain, Japan and the USA. With several headline shows in Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine, the band gained a loyal and massively growing fan base. The highlights were support shows for PARKWAY DRIVE in sold out halls in Moscow and St.Petersburg. The established independent record label SPV signed the band in 2014 and three studio albums were released, all of which made it into the top 100 of the official German album charts. In 2018, ANNISOKAY switched from SPV to Arising Empire. In the same year, the fourth studio album »Arms« was released, which reached #26, making it the band’s highest chart entry to date.
The idea for the band name comes from the song ‚Smooth Criminal‚ by Michael Jackson. With »Annie Are You Okay?« ANNISOKAY released a Michael Jackson cover EP in 2016 to honor a true musical genius who served as the inspiration for the band name. What sound and what kind of music do ANNISOKAY stand for? Free of clichés typical of the genre or current sound trends and yet sounding modern, that is the maxim. Guitarist and singer Christoph Wieczorek has been a producer since the beginning of the band. This is how all ANNISOKAY albums are created, under the direction of Christoph, in his recording studio „Sawdust Recordings“ in Halle / Saale.
After four studio albums, the brand new album »Aurora« is all about the new shouter. Aurora symbolizes the mystical polar light, full of hope on the dark horizon. ANNISOKAY had toured extensively in the years before and made the leap to international stages outside of Europe. The start for this was a four-week USA tour with I SET MY FRIENDS ON FIRE, from New YorkCity to Los Angeles. Japan and Russia followed, as well as an extensive European tour. The band spent almost a year together on the tour bus. After the summer 2019 festival, the big cut came and the band split from the previous shouter. Long-time friend and experienced shouter Rudi Schwarzerwas hired for the upcoming shows in 2019. Rudi has been playing in various hardcore bands for over 10 years. It quickly became clear that it would fit! With new strength, fun and a lot of energy, ANNISOKAY continue their successful genre mix and set new standards for modern and melodic rock music.

2020.11.21 03:03 InfernoAA Switchblade Era Vol. II Part One: Ashes to Empire

Bullet Club is one of the greatest successes of the past decade, initially a group of 4 brash, uber-cool gaijin led by Prince Devitt, who spat on the long-standing traditions of NJPW, frustrated by the manner they were being treated. They since turned into arguably the hottest sensation worldwide, their influence spreading throughout the wrestling industry. However, recently, the group has slowly lost its lustre, big names moving onto greener pastures and the heat that catapulted it to top petering out. Currently being co-led by Jay White and EVIL, the Switchblade Era is in desperate need of an overhaul, so let’s take a look at how that can be fixed, starting with the road to Wrestle Kingdom 15.

Build to Wrestle Kingdom 15

Presently, the only Bullet Club related match-up announced for the annual Tokyo Dome show is the main event of Night Two, featuring Jay White facing the winner of Tetsuya Naito and Kota Ibushi from Night One for both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships, earning the match after defeating Ibushi for his G1 Climax Contract. As for the rest of the faction, they’re currently split across the Best of the Super Juniors and World Tag League, looking to join White on the WK card with a prestigious title match.

Best of the Super Juniors 27
Representing the faction is IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori, who’s eyes are set on winning his first BoSJ, having made it to the Finals in his debut in 2018, before being the runner-up for his block last year. With a shot at Ishimori’s gold on the line for WK, the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been. He starts the tournament with a loss to the favourite to win the whole tournament, Hiromu Takahashi, before rebounding with three straight victories over Ryusuke Taguchi, DOUKI and Yuya Uemura, on a hot streak, only to suffer his second loss opposite Robbie Eagles.
Resetting his focus, he’s able to head to the final night with 12 points, taking down BUSHI, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion El Desperado and Master Wato along the way. With a tight victory over SHO, he sits at the top of his block with 14 points, only for Hiromu and Eagles to also meet him at 14 by the end of the night, their tie-breakers over him causing him to be eliminated from the running, finishing with an incredible campaign nonetheless. In the Finals, it’s Eagles who pulls off the upset against Hiromu, setting himself a date opposite Taiji for WK!

World Tag League
As for the WTL, BC have not 1, not 2, but 3 teams in the running, Guerrillas of Destiny, Back Luck Fale & Chase Owens, and EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi all looking to take the trophy for themselves. Fale & Owens have a tough run ahead of them, only able to record 4 points, whilst EVIL & Yujiro do considerably better, even leading the block in the early goings, but their momentum runs short entering the latter half of the tournament after a loss to their own stablemates, GoD. Upon being mathematically eliminated, EVIL decides to sabotage another team’s chance of winning, interfering in SANADA & Shingo Takagi’s penultimate match to also eliminate them from the running, setting up a heated WK match between the King of Darkness and the Cold Skull!
As for GoD, one of the faces of the Tag Division yet having never won the WTL itself, they perform brilliantly, even scoring a victory over the Tag Champs themselves, Dangerous Tekkers. Making it to the Finals, they meet long-standing rivals FinJuice, the teams 1-1 this year against each other. After an exhilarating Finals, GoD pull off the big victory, winning their first WTL and earning another round against DT, this time for the belts. However, with FinJuice also pinning DT, they lobby to be added to the match, bringing up their win over GoD at last year’s WK for the straps, as well as their near-flawless record this year, making it a Triple Threat to GoD’s chagrin.

Super J-Cup
The final tournament on the road to WK is the legendary Super J-Cup, all eyes on defending champion El Phantasmo as he looks to join GoD in bringing Bullet Club tournament success. In the opening round, he squares off against GCW sensation Blake Christian, picking up the victory, before clashing with Cruiserweight Classic Winner TJP in the Semi-Finals, another hard-fought win in the books for the Canadian. Making it to the Finals, looking to win his second year in a row, he squares off against Lio Rush, the two delivering in an epic bout which sees ELP fall narrowly short, unable to bring home the trophy.

Despite Bullet Club only winning 1 of 3 tournaments, they have a strong line-up of matches for them on January 4th & 5th in:

Night One
Night Two

Looking to undo the curse of last year where for the first time in the faction’s history, they left with 0 titles, having always left with at least 1 in previous years, an indication of the recent decline in BC’s dominance, Jay White rallies his troops and demands only the best from them up and down the card.

Wrestle Kingdom 15 – Night One

NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championships Scramble
A feature of the grand spectacle that is Wrestle Kingdom is the 6-Man Title match, featuring competitors from all factions vying for the trios gold. In a twist on the usual Gauntlet concept, a Scramble occurs instead, a new team entering every 5 minutes. The bout is kicked off by Los Ingobernables de Japon and Taguchi Japan, the two sides keeping themselves busy with each other before the reigning champions, CHAOS, are out next, Bullet Club’s Bad Luck Fale, Yujiro Takahashi and Chase Owens entering the fray 4th.
The first pinfall of the match occurs when Fale gets one over Taguchi, BC becoming the interim champions, only for Suzuki-Gun to become the final team to enter and immediately make a huge impact as they pick at the exhausted competitors, Taichi pinning Chase Owens to take the titles! It’s frantic in the ring as the clock reaches its final minute, pinfall attempts being traded left and right, BC doing their all to leave with the straps, but it’s YOSHI-HASHI taking the titles back for CHAOS by pinning El Desperado, CHAOS retaining!
CHAOS (Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI) retain the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship (20:00)

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: Taiji Ishimori (c) vs Robbie Eagles
As a result of Eagles winning BoSJ 27, the match between him and Ishimori for the gold was made official for WK, Taiji 4 months into his 2nd reign. The two have quite the history between them, Eagles once a member of Bullet Club, teaming with Ishimori in the Super Junior Tag League back in 2018, though were unable to win the whole tournament. Whilst Ishimori moved on to winning the Junior Title at WK, Eagles was left directionless with BC. A spirited run in the BoSJ the following year lead him to a Junior Title match vs Will Ospreay, whom he would join forces with over in CHAOS, turning his back on BC. Whilst the newly-dubbed Birds of Prey fell short in their challenge for Ishimori & ELP’s Junior Tag Titles, Eagles had not forgotten about Ishimori, his recent BoSJ win leading him full circle back to the Bone Soldier.
Now, with the Junior Heavyweight Title between them at WK, the two do battle, Ishimori brutally stretching the Aussie out and using his shorter, nimbler frame to evade incoming aerial attacks, bringing him crashing down to earth instead with a massive Spanish Fly! Slapping on an Omoplata Crossface, Taiji keeps up his work on the challenger, wanting to torture him in reminder of Eagles turning his back on the group that once brought him in, only for Robbie to start making a comeback, the Sniper of the Skies taking it back to the Bone Soldier with Ace Crushers, before nailing a picture-perfect Warp 4.5, Ishimori kicking out with bare milliseconds to spare! A surprise Bloody Cross almost does Robbie in, but as the champ looks to seal the deal with a Revolución, a blindingly quick spray of kicks stun him, before Eagles cinches in the Ron Miller Special! Trapped in the centre of the ring with nowhere to go, Taiji taps out!
Robbie Eagles def. Taiji Ishimori to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship (20:37)

IWGP United States Championship: KENTA vs Jon Moxley (c)
As for the special attraction of the night for Bullet Club, it’s the long-awaited confrontation between KENTA and former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, having recently dropped his title to Kenny Omega en route to his third title defence of a 365 day long reign, more desperate than ever to clobber the loving hell out of someone to unleash all his pent-up frustrations, the Black Sun being that man for him. On the other hand, KENTA is just as equally chomping at the bit to fight for the US Title, having waited since his New Japan Cup USA victory back in August for this opportunity, now having it presented to him on the grandest stage possible. This match isn’t just about the title for him though, as after BC’s two losses earlier in the night, all the pressure is on his shoulders to help the allow the faction to leave with gold on Night One.
The two get down to action immediately, not even waiting for the bell to get into a hockey fight, seeming more like a NEVER Openweight Title match. Mox pounds KENTA into the mat in a Lou Thesz Press, only for KENTA to launch him off with his strong legs, before battering him back with shots all over the body, pressing him into the corner for a Hesitation Dropkick! A Roundhouse Kick straight to the jaw seems to knock out a tooth or two from Mox’s jaw, leaving the former Deathmatch competitor bleeding from the jaw, simply wiping the crimson away with a smile, just a day in the life of the champ. Leathering each other with strikes, Jon suddenly pulls KENTA into a Snap Death Rider, almost getting the 3 count, only for him to get his foot on the rope! A Pendulum Lariat is evaded, KENTA instead bashing his already dented NJC Briefcase over Mox’s skull as the referee is distracted, the imprint from cracking it on Hiroshi Tanahashi now widened by Mox, before nailing consecutive Go 2 Sleeps! 1…2…3! KENTA is the new US Champion!
KENTA def. Jon Moxley (c) to win IWGP United States Championship (23:02)

In Night One’s Main Event, Tetsuya Naito and Kota Ibushi do battle for the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships, one year on from Ibushi’s challenge for Okada’s gold. Both men put it all on the line, balancing the more headstrong and reckless style with the required stamina to last in a Tokyo Dome main event. The most prestigious match in their rivalry sees the Golden Star finally capture the big one, 6 years in the making for Ibushi as he leaves January 4 with both of NJPW’s top titles. After the match, he’s confronted by the man he’s slated to face the following night, Jay White, who has a sneer on his face as he extends a Too Sweet to Kota, the champ shaking his head and raising his titles instead.

Wrestle Kingdom 15 – Night Two

IWGP Tag Team Championships: Guerrillas of Destiny vs Dangerous Tekkers (c) vs FinJuice
2020 has been the year of Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi, the team of Dangerous Tekkers capturing the IWGP Tag Team Championships from Golden☆Ace back at Dominion, running roughshod over the tag division. Taking advantage of the likes of GoD and FinJuice being unable to travel to NJPW due to restrictions, they cemented their position at the top of the division and forged an elite chemistry, now prepared for all comers. With GoD winning the WTL for the first time, now also looking for their first WK victory and FinJuice out to reclaim the Tag Titles one year on from when they won them the first time at last year’s WK, DT are in for a tough defence.
As the bell rings, chaos reigns supreme in the ring between the 6 men, GoD completely disregarding rules, instead initiating a brawl with the rest of the competitors. Taichi opts to sit back and watch, sliding in when need be to save the match or double-team alongside Zack, whilst FinJuice fight from underneath, oftentimes finding themselves at somewhat of a handicap with both teams coming after them. GoD manage to isolate DT from FinJuice, sending Juice & Finlay far up the ramp to prevent them from interfering, leading to a 2-on-2 encounter between the BC and Suzuki-Gun tandems. A Super Powerbomb is thwarted by a Dangerous Backdrop from the Lord and Saviour, only for ZSJ to eat a Gun Stun from Tama Tonga to prevent a Zack Mephisto! FinJuice re-enter the fray, almost going two years in a row as a Left Hand of God/Acid Drop connects on Tonga, only for both members of DT to save the match for themselves! A Penalty Kick into a Holy Zack Driver connects on Finlay whilst Juice is thrown out of the ring, but before DT can do anything, GoD nail Guerrilla Warfare on them! 1…2…3! Guerrillas of Destiny have won at WK for the first time, becoming a record 7-time Tag Champs in the process!
Guerrillas of Destiny def. Dangerous Tekkers (c) and FinJuice to win the IWGP Tag Team Championships (16:30)

Almost 5 years of history lead to this match, the roots running deep between BC’s EVIL and LIJ’s SANADA. Once one of three initial members of LIJ alongside leader Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI, EVIL formed a tag team with SANADA upon the Cold Skull joining the faction the following year, the two becoming runner-ups for their block in the WTL, before capturing the 6-Man Tag Titles at WK, amassing 3 reigns alongside each other. Back-to-back WTL and subsequent Tag Title victories at WK12 & 13 established them as a dominant unit. However, that bond was all thrown away when EVIL turned on LIJ and jumped ship to BC, assuming co-leadership there. After EVIL cost SANADA the WTL, all signs pointed to a singles confrontation between them to settle the score, the two 2-2 against each other.
A stoic SANADA and a brooding EVIL meet each other inside the ring, SANADA with his Cold Skull mask in his right hand, EVIL with Dick Togo and Jado in his corner. To SANADA’s surprise, EVIL signals to them that he wants to do this on his own, who hesitantly oblige. SANADA is calm and steady in his movements, not letting the hatred for EVIL cloud his mind, instead putting his focus on winning the match, but it’s made difficult by the cocky, brutish nature of the King of Darkness, EVIL bullying SANADA about the ring with less wrestling moves and more ugly strikes, shoves and tosses. A thumb poke to the eye scouts a Skull End, EVIL instead clamping on the Banshee Muzzle, looking to drain the life out of his once partner, only for the Tokyo crowd to rally on the Cold Skull, who fights out and nails a picture-perfect Moonsault!
A Skull End attempt is stopped by Togo and Jado, making their presence known as EVIL retracts his initial orders, causing SANADA to take them out with a Moonsault to the outside, but as he slides back inside the ring, he’s caught with a low blow outside the ref’s view, leading to Everything Is Evil! 1…2…NOOOOO! SANADA somehow gets the shoulder up, the crowd firmly backing him as he lets it all out against EVIL! He nails a symbolic Destino, before transitioning into a Skull End, EVIL struggling in his grasp, arms waving frantically, yelling for Togo & Jado to help him out of his predicament, but he’s all alone this time, the road he made for himself when he turned on LIJ and joined a faction that hasn’t warmed to him so much. He caves in, tapping out, crowning SANADA the victor!
SANADA def. EVIL (17:25)

IWGP Heavyweight/Intercontinental Championships: Jay White vs Kota Ibushi (c)(c)
Jay White vs Kota Ibushi has been quite the rivalry to watch unfold over the past 1 ½ years, Ibushi defeating White in the G1 29 Finals, before meeting him in the Loser’s Bracket of the Double Gold Dash at WK14, White leaving Kota looking up at the lights as he got his win back. He didn’t stop there, defeating Ibushi in their G1 Block match later that year, before becoming the first competitor to win the G1 Contract from someone else, defeating Ibushi at Power Struggle to steal his spot in WK’s ME, forcing Ibushi to go through Naito to get to him. The series 3-1 in White’s favour, one of those being a win exactly 365 days ago in the same spot, the odds aren’t looking too good for Ibushi, but he isn’t going to let himself have the shortest IWGP Hvt reign in history.
Mind games are ever prevalent in White’s strategy, taunting Ibushi to come for him, only to roll outside the ring to toy with him, Too Sweeting Gedo and even Gino Gambino. Ibushi, however, has seen this too many times to fall for it, Jay almost impressed as he rolls back inside the ring to an unmoving Kota, not letting his guard down for even a second. White decides he’ll have to find his sweet spot in another fashion, getting into some straight-up wrestling with the Golden Star, the two evenly matched as the bout rolls on. To White’s chagrin, Kota still doesn’t crack as Gedo tries to work himself into the match, dealing with him handily, before turning his attention right back to Jay without even the slightest slip-up. The Switchblade becomes more aggressive in his attacks, cerebrally and meticulously picking Ibushi apart, using anything he can from his surroundings to his advantage.
He delivers a sick apron Saito Suplex, locks in a devasting Modified Reverse Figure-Four Leglock, and even drills him with Sharp Sensations to the chest in attempts of knocking him out if he can’t pin or submit him, yet Ibushi stands his ground, weathering the storm to fight back. A middle rope Deadlift German ragdolls White across the mat, a Roundhouse Kick to the side of the head damn near makes it lights out for Jay, and Golden Star Powerbomb brings him crashing down into the canvas, yet much like Ibushi, the Knife Pervert stays in it, wanting to do what he failed to do last year and leave with both titles over his shoulders. Getting frustrated, White starts pushing it further and further, putting Ibushi through a table with a Kiwi Krusher and bounces his head off the floor with a Blade Runner, but that only serves to tick Ibushi off even more, the Golden Star going into murder mode!
A nasty series of open palm strikes and blistering kicks that leave him black and blue all over allow Ibushi to hook both arms, looking to be done with White once and for all, only for BC to hit the scene in support of their leader. A mis-fired Roundhouse Kick takes out the referee, prompting BC to go to rip into the champion, but not letting the sanctity of the WK ME be sullied, NJPW’s Main Unit race out, the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi, FinJuice and Tencozy fighting back! As the dust settles, all that’s left is the knackered pair of White and Ibushi… and EVIL! Looking to repay the favour from White trying to lend a hand in EVIL’s Heavyweight & IC match against Naito at Power Struggle, EVIL takes it to Ibushi, but as he goes for a Lariat, Kota evades, causing EVIL to take out White instead, Ibushi proceeding to remove him from the ring with a V-Trigger, before turning back to Jay, nailing a Kamigoye! Not settling for just one though, he calls for a second, only for White to nail a last-gasp Blade Runner! An attempt for two ends in a second Kamigoye though, Ibushi collapsing into cover! 1…2…3!
Kota Ibushi (c)(c) def. Jay White to retain the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championship (36:46)

Wrestle Kingdom was a show of mixed success for Bullet Club, as whilst they secured the US and Tag Titles, all their other matches ended in losses, White particularly livid about his loss to Ibushi, getting into a shouting match with EVIL after the show backstage, the rest of the faction having to get in between the two leaders before things could go south, cracks running deep in the faction behind the veil of gold.

Build to New Beginning 2021

New Year Dash!! 2021
The night after WK sees BC compete in the night’s main event, a Tag Team match pitting the two leaders, White and EVIL, against newly crowned Hvt/IC Champ Ibushi and his partner, Tanahashi. Whilst Golden☆Ace work on the same page, maintaining great synergy, White and EVIL bicker between themselves, tagging themselves in and out as they please, leading them back into a shouting match. EVIL snaps, laying White out with Everything Is Evil! The White/EVIL partnership has imploded! Satisfied, EVIL walks out on Jay, allowing Ibushi to pin the Switchblade for the win!
As Golden☆Ace rejoice in victory, heading to the back, White pulls himself back to his feet, furious. EVIL cost him his match at WK and has now shown his true colours! It isn’t long though before EVIL starts making his way back, White bracing himself for action, only for the rest of BC to make their way out, once again pushing the two apart from one another, tensions running high in Korakuen Hall, the title successes from the previous night being sullied by the drama between the two leaders. The two yell across the arena, White challenging EVIL to a match, only for him to grunt and turn away once more, returning to the back as White demands him to return, but to no avail…
Whilst EVIL doesn’t immediately respond to White’s challenge, his response is clear already, more than happy to take the match and put down White, but only on one condition: If he wins, BC is his. Jay, though not so inclined to risk his leadership, accepts, knowing there’s no other way around things, the match made official for Osaka! As for the rest of BC, they’re involved in multi-man tags on the ‘Road To’ specials alongside White against EVIL’s branch of BC, whilst KENTA and GoD set their sights on title defences, the former receiving a challenge from SANADA following his victory over EVIL, whilst Dangerous Tekkers are out to take their titles back from GoD.

New Beginning 2021

IWGP United States Championship: KENTA (c) vs SANADA
The first major stop on the road to Osaka is USA, KENTA defending his newly-won gold against the Cold Skull. A contrast to the more physical match wrestled against Mox, KENTA and SANADA take things down the technical route, SANADA employing his ground game to look for an opening to cinch in the Skull End, eyes locked on the neck, whilst KENTA keeps his attention on SANADA’s shoulder, using precise kicks and stomps to wear it out. A Paradise Lock from SANADA allows him to toy with his foe, rolling him about the ring and taking clear shots at the neck.
As he calls for Skull End though, KENTA fights out and drops him on his shoulder with a German Suplex! The Cold Skull retorts with a Dragon Suplex, before scaling to the high-rent district, wanting to land a Moonsault, only for KENTA to stop him in his tracks, instead turning the predicament into an Avalanche Falcon Arrow! A Busaiku Knee Kick is evaded, SANADA going back to the well with Skull End, KENTA teasing tapping out, only to steal the arm and reverse into Game Over! Wrenching back in the Crossface, SANADA has no choice but to tap!

IWGP Tag Team Championships: Guerrillas of Destiny (c) vs Dangerous Tekkers
With Osaka growing closer by the day, NJPW makes its next big stop in Sapporo, featuring the Tag Title match between GoD and DT. In a rematch from the WTL, GoD play the role of the aggressors in this match, backed by the confidence of being the champions. The longer-standing chemistry between Tama and Tonga allows them to assume control in the match, using frequent tags and double teams to leave their less experienced foes on the backfoot. A timely counter of a Tongan Twist turns the tide of the match, Sabre applying dual submissions on his foes as Taichi watches on in approval.
He goes on to work with the World’s Sliest Wrestler to reaffirm just why they were NJPW’s MVP Tag Team last year, surprising GoD with their fluidity as Taichi nails a Dangerous Backdrop on Tama, before ZSJ & Taichi score dual Penalty Kicks, a Guillotine Choke into an Axe Bomber ensuing, only for Tanga to block a Zack Mephisto, having seen enough. The back-and-forth action leads them to a fast-paced finish, a Gun Stun countered with a Rear Naked Choke, a Black Mephisto cancelled with a Spear, a Holy Zack Driver failing as Tama takes Taichi out with a Gun Stun, leaving ZSJ to eat the double-team Guerrilla Warfare! 1...2...3!

Jay White vs EVIL
Slowly brewing over the past 7 months is the eventual confrontation between White and EVIL, the latter joining forces with BC whilst Jay was away, proceeding to shoot them back to the main event title picture. Upon White’s return though, the issues between the two leaders simmered as they fought for power between themselves, looking to establish who is the one true leader of the faction. Both men, whether it was actually unintentional or not, cost each other shots at the top titles, so it only seems fair that they have a platform to solve their issues once and for all, with the added caveat that if EVIL wins, he becomes the undisputed leader of BC.
All of BC is already present at ringside as White and EVIL both make the walk to the squared circle alone, the faction members all keeping a close eye on the action as it could very well dictate their own futures too. As the match gets underway, the two opt to stall and trash talk in the early goings, taking their sweet time, knowing just how important it is to get everything right in this match and win. White approaches the King of Darkness, offering a Too Sweet and taunting him to back down, only for EVIL to swing for a Lariat, White narrowly evading, a smirk on his face. Using his size and power advantage, EVIL looks to take control of the Switchblade, but the slick counters and cunningness of White keep the bout even.
As BC watch on intently from ringside, the arena deathly silent in anticipation of seeing who BC’s sole leader will be, the two trade their signature manoeuvres, momentum swinging between them like a pendulum. EVIL brings a chair into the ring, wrapping it around the Switchblade’s head and going for Everything is Evil, only for White to fight back, removing the chair and dumping EVIL over the ropes to the outside with a Saito Suplex! With the match spilling to ringside, all it takes is one misfired shot to a bystander for it to turn into a Lumberjack match, all hell breaking loose as EVIL launches a chair at White, only for him to duck and for the steel to catch Chase Owens in the face! All the bodies duke it out amongst themselves, White and EVIL finding themselves caught up in the fray too, eating errant shots left and right, before trading some blows between themselves.
The referee desperately tries to regain control of the match, eventually White and EVIL returning back inside the ring, both going to the well with their finishers in an epic closing sprint. A Blade Runner is blocked, EVIL going for Darkness Falls again, only for White to slip out and nail a Kiwi Krusher, before hooking EVIL in once more, only this time it’s a low blow to counter it! Setting the chair up once more, the King of Darkness calls for Everything Is Evil on the steel, nailing it! 1…2…KENTA BREAKS IT UP! EVIL is taken aback, GoD following KENTA into the ring, then Fale, ELP, Taiji, Yujiro, Owens, everyone surrounding EVIL! He looks left and right frantically, before BC pounce on him like rabid wolves, dogpiling him! Feeding EVIL’s carcass to White, the Switchblade connects the Blade Runner! 1…2…3!
Jay White def. EVIL (20:12)
Too Sweets are shared all around the ring as EVIL’s body is disposed of, everyone seeming to have had enough of the King of Darkness. With BC uniting under White’s leadership once more, Jay cuts a promo, claiming that the Day of Reckoning struck for EVIL and BC has been rid of its vermin. Now, they move onto new beginnings, promising to restore the faction back to its once heights and rule New Japan with an iron fist. In order to rebuild their faction, they need new faces, new motivations, and most importantly, more titles. So, he’d like to make a declaration and put the locker room on notice. This year, he will enter the G1 as the IWGP Heavyweight Champ!

Build to G1 Supercard 2021

AEW Dynamite
On the road to winning the IWGP Title, White makes a quick detour, making a surprise appearance on AEW Dynamite! With the NJPW/AEW relationship taking off, Jay takes it to his advantage to swing by, bumping into Jon Moxley backstage, who’s gearing up for his match against Kenny Omega this weekend at Revolution II for his once AEW World Championship. Mox, much like everyone else, is caught off guard by White’s appearance, the Switchblade proceeding to offer Mox a position in BC, stating that they could make do with one of AEW’s biggest stars, before promising to elevate him to heights he’s never been before. Handing him a BC shirt, Jay slinks back into the shadows, telling him he’ll be waiting for a response by the end of the night.
In the main event of the show, Jon faces off against PAC to warm up for his World Title match, the leader of Death Triangle also expressing his interests in challenging for the title, a considerable WL record on his hands. After a great showcase between the two, Mox seals the deal with a pair of Paradigm Shifts, pinning PAC for the victory. As he celebrates on the turnbuckles, a potential preview to what could go down on Saturday, White heads down to the ring, confronting Mox about his offer to join BC, reminding him it’s limited time. The Death Rider weighs the shirt in his hands, teasing putting it on, only to flip White off and drill him with a Paradigm Shift as well!
PAC returning to his feet, he leads Death Triangle in a 3-on-1 beatdown on Mox, White joining in as he recovers, switching to his ruthless side on a dime, nailing Mox with a Blade Runner, before threading his leg through a chair and Pillmanising it! He yells at him that he made a mistake, how they could’ve been so great together, but before he can run his mouth any more, he turns to see Death Triangle staring him down intently, proceeding to leave the ring to them before they go after him too. Whilst the recruitment didn’t turn out so well, he may have just made himself a dangerous enemy…

(Side-note: At Revolution II, Mox falls short against Omega, who’s back in his Cleaner phase with Young Bucks by his side, the Elite trio at AEW’s head. After the match, Death Triangle attack Mox once again, before staring down the Elite as the show comes to a close.)

New Japan Cup
After the visit to AEW, White and the rest of BC set their sights on winning the NJC, Jay, KENTA and ELP throwing their names into the hat for the 16-man tournament. In the opening round, White is tasked with taking on the man that eliminated him from the G1 last year, CHAOS’ Tomohiro Ishii. He strides into the match confident as ever despite never having defeated the Stone Pitbull in the past, the goal of winning the IWGP Title by the G1 lighting a fire underneath himself. The two battle for a full 29 minutes, going ever so close to breaking half an hour, but it’s a Blade Runner- Wait, someone seems to be heading to the ring from the crowd! Suddenly, Ishii spins White around and nails a Brainbuster out of nowhere! 1…2…3! WHITE IS OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND!
A phenomenal match between White and Ishii ends in a true shocker as Bullet Club’s Leader is out before the rest of his stablemates, a shot to the heart of White’s plans of winning the IWGP Hvt Title. He has no time to fathom what just occurred though, bigger problems on their way as the figure from the crowd slides into the ring and starts laying into Jay, pulling back their hood to reveal themselves to be JON MOXLEY! The Death Rider drills him with consecutive Death Riders, before going for some sweet retribution by trying to stomp White’s leg through a chair, the excruciating manoeuvre playing into Mox’s loss at Revolution, Jon now out for revenge! Before he can follow through though, White just about powders, leaving a seething Mox in the ring.
Whilst White’s run ended straight away, KENTA and ELP find more luck, advancing to the Quarter Finals, where the Black Sun is the next to depart in surprising fashion, leaving the Headbanga to make his way to the Semi Finals, the opportunity to win the whole NJC drawing closer by the minute, only to lose out to one of his rivals in Will Ospreay, the Assassin etching a spot in the Finals. Nonetheless, ELP’s breakout run doesn’t go under the radar, proving himself to be somewhat of a hidden gem for BC.

New Japan Cup Finals
IWGP Tag Team Championships: Guerrillas of Destiny (c) vs FinJuice
Other members of BC having their hands full with the NJC, GoD put out the challenge to anyone to face them for their tag titles at the NJC Finals show, FinJuice stepping up to answer, not having had a rematch for the belts after not being pinned in the Triple Threat at WK. Another instalment in the GoD/FinJuice rivalry ensues, Juice and Finlay adamant to take the titles for themselves, whilst GoD are out to make FinJuice victims of their dominance once more. It’s classic tag team wrestling between the two sides, the 7-time Tag Champs bullying their opponents about the ring, the former WTL winners responding with babyface fire and aggression. In the end, GoD go for Guerrilla Warfare, only for a Left Hand of God to send Tanga out of the ring, allowing a Juicebox/Air Rad Crash combo on Tama to ensue! 1…2…3! FinJuice with the upset!
FinJuice def. Guerrillas of Destiny (c) to win the IWGP Tag Team Championships (19:10)

White is taken aback by BC’s recent losses, expecting to win the NJC with ease, and now GoD have lost them 1 of 2 titles they own, all hopes now riding on KENTA to keep a tight grip on his title as they gear up for the G1 Supercard event announced for April, NJPW returning to Madison Square Garden! They’re not alone though, as part of the NJPW/AEW relationship, stars from both companies will appear on the show! Which for White can only mean that all fingers are pointing towards one match…
Both on a collision course following recent events, White vs Mox is hyped up as one of the larger attractions, the night’s semi main event slot booked for two of both companies biggest stars! Also on the card in a match to watch out for, KENTA is scheduled to defend his US Title against the Empire’s Jeff Cobb, whilst the rest of BC are involved elsewhere on the card in smaller interpromotional bouts. As for the selling point of the show, NJPW’s Top Champion, Kota Ibushi, will face off against none other than AEW’s Top Champion, Kenny Omega! Set to be an incredible night of action in MSG, BC are looking to score big.

G1 Supercard 2021
IWGP United States Championship: KENTA (c) vs Jeff Cobb
In one of two large matches involving BC on the show, KENTA defends his title against Jeff Cobb, an interesting clash of styles between the striker and the powerhouse. KENTA plays to his own strengths, dragging Cobb into a striking affair and lighting him up with kicks all over, but he gets too overzealous in the face of the Hawaiian Hulk, who brings him crashing down to earth with Rolling Gutwrench Suplexes! KENTA fights back with a Fisherman Buster, before catching him with a High Knee on the jaw and a Tiger Suplex! As he heaves to get Cobb onto his shoulders for the Go 2 Sleep, Jeff slips behind, nailing a Headbutt right on the button, before connecting a Tour of the Islands! 1…2…3! Just like that, BC is left title-less!
Jeff Cobb def. KENTA (c) to win the IWGP United States Championship (16:28)

Jay White vs Jon Moxley
The arena is electric as NJPW’s White and AEW’s Moxley make their respective entrances, White clearly shaken by KENTA’s loss earlier in the night, his new era already seeming to fall apart as now BC have no gold to flaunt, making defeating Mox all the more necessary to keep face. Meanwhile, Mox is a man on a mission, wanting nothing more than the satisfaction of beating White. In a rematch from their G1 encounter, the two hot commodities collide, the two complementing each other well with a slow, grinding pace, White centring his offense around Mox’s leg, Dragon Screw Leg Whips weakening the base, whilst Mox focuses on the neck, softening up Jay for the Paradigm Shift with Rear Naked Choke attempts! Multiple dramatic near-falls and submissions ensue, MSG treated to a slobberknocker of an encounter, eventually coming to a close as White fights free of a Bulldog Choke, instead kicking out Mox’s knee to nail a Blade Runner, securing the 3 count!
Jay White def. Jon Moxley (20:29)

Moving onto the main event of the night, Omega and Ibushi are deep into their encounter, the story backing their encounter making it all the more interesting. After Omega left NJPW two years ago to aid in the formation of AEW, Ibushi set his sights on winning the title that Omega lost at that year’s WK, going through quite the journey to finally join the Best Bout Machine in the record books. In almost a dream come true for Kota, both he and Omega at the top of their companies, Kenny Kenny regressed back to his dark upon turning on Adam Page, leaving Ibushi now desperately trying to restore Omega back to the light. An epic struggle ensues in which Omega seems as if he’s going to return to Ibushi once more, but The Cleaner can’t bring himself to do it, ending up capitalising on Ibushi’s heartbreak on misery to nail the One Winged Angel and win!
He doesn’t have time to celebrate though as after the match, White heads to the ring with a microphone, which peaks Omega’s interest. The Switchblade states that two months ago he announced a new era for Bullet Club which would be illustrated by success on top of success. But as everyone can see, the opposite has occurred, the group losing all their titles. However, after his match against Mox, he realised that something was missing from BC, some sort of spark was lacking to kick start his plans. A fire needs all three components to burn, and much like a fire, BC needs its own triangle to set the world on fire once more… DEATH TRIANGLE hit the ring, laying waste to Omega, Young Bucks coming out to try and help him out but they’re taken out too, before they raise the Elite’s titles, White doing the same with Ibushi’s! As the 4 of them stand side-by-side in the ring, White tells the wrestling world to watch out, because BC & Death Triangle have united as one, and they’re coming for the thrones!

2020.11.20 13:56 UberHansen Game Matchups Preview #Bye: Josh Allen vs. Everyone

So, this week we are shaking this up a bit. It’s the Bills’ Bye Week so obviously they don’t have a game meaning a Game Matchup Preview would be really difficult to write. I spent some time racking my brain to think of something I could do this week and then had an idea. There is a certain situation, comprised of a few intriguing matchups, all Bills’ fans have been monitoring for the past 3 years. That situation is none other than the ascension of the Bills’ Franchise Quarterback from everyone’s favorite punching bag to MVP contender. With that in mind here is 2020’s Special Edition of “Matchups Preview”, Josh Allen vs. Everyone.
The date is March 9, 2018 and the Bills are coming off a season where they had finally ended a 17-year playoff drought. Speculation has been swirling for months whether the team will move on from their 3-year starting QB, Tyrod Taylor, until an Adam Schefter tweet changes everything. The Bills had traded Taylor to the Browns “And Buffalo[s] back in QB market” signaling what many Bills’ fans had expected, the Bills will draft a QB in 2018. Fast-forward to the NFL Draft where Bills’ fans were hoping that one of Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson, or Josh Allen would fall to them at pick #12. The draft begins. With the 1st pick in the 2018 NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns select…Baker Mayfield. With the 3rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft the New York Jets select…Sam Darnold. As pick 7 approached a 3rd QB has yet to be selected, then a trade is announced. Buffalo will trade the #12, #53, and #56 to the Buccaneers and move up to the #7 pick. With the 7th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select…
Josh Allen.
Josh Allen vs. Bills’ Fans
While some Bills’ fans were ecstatic with the Bills’ selection let’s not rewrite history and act like the entire fan base was behind the decision. Look at these Bills’ fans in Los Angeles, how bout these ones interviewed by WKBW, or even these ones in Tonawanda? And full transparency, while there is no video, I fully admit that when I heard the word “Allen” follow the word “Josh” an expletive or two (or three) may have been said. Frankly we had reasons to be skeptical, after all the Bills had just drafted a QB who completed only 56% of his passes at Wyoming and while he had eye popping arm strength was more comparable to Jamarcus Russel than Russel Wilson. But shortly after the draft Bills Mafia did what it does best, shook off a “loss” and moved forward. In doing so many of these skeptics would quickly feel what few had the foresight to see, that this 7th overall pick may just be the franchise altering one Bills Mafia had been dying for, for decades.
From the second he was drafted Allen began endearing himself to Bills’ fans with his first statement as a Buffalo Bills QB being, “Thank you to the Bills’ organization for making the leap and putting their faith in me. I’m gonna make them look like they’re the smartest people out there. I’m humbled. I’m blessed, to be a part of Bills Mafia.” The Bills had not only drafted a QB with massive upside but had gotten a football player who clearly wanted to be in Buffalo and was willing to do just about anything to prove Buffalo made the right decision in drafting him. This was visibly apparent for the first time in his career on September 23, 2018 against the Minnesota Vikings when two separate plays made Bills’ fans jaws drop more than watching Stevie Johnson shred apart Darrelle Revis. The first, on 2nd down from the Vikings 9-yard line Allen saw a lane to the left pylon and took it. From 5-yards out Allen took off, and in a Superman pose, hit the left pylon for the TD. A play few QBs can make and even fewer all willing to make, this only foreshadowed what was yet to come in arguably the most eye-popping play of 2018. On 3rd and 10 from the Bills side of the field Allen sees a bit of daylight over the middle of the field and breaks off a run with just Anthony Barr to beat. Meeting Barr 5 yards short of the 1st down Allen did the unthinkable, he jumped, right over the 6’5” LB for a 2nd quarter first down. That was it for a lot of Bills fans, Buffalo had a QB who would clearly do anything and everything to get them a win.
There are so many more highlights that increased Buffalo’s infatuation with Allen. Whether it be his impossible throw against Jacksonville, his Thanksgiving first down, or literally any game against the Dolphins I could go on and on about what Josh Allen has done on the field but it’s what he has done off the field that won the hearts of Bills Mafia. Using experiences from his childhood Allen spends more times than most interacting with the fans, the highlight being the time he took a young Dolphins’ fans’ jersey and replaced it with a signed Josh Allen one. Or how about the time Allen had a young fan autograph a drawing the fan was giving to Josh at a JA autograph event? All these moments culminated recently when Bills Mafia found out Allen was dealing with a difficult situation during the Bills’ 2020 matchup with the Seahawks. Postgame Bills’ fan learned that Allen’s grandmother had passed away and (un)surprisingly began donating $17 in her honor to Allen’s favorite charity, Oishei Children’s Hospital. Hundreds of dollars, Thousands, Tens of Thousands, Hundreds of Thousands, $483,000. And then the Bills’ QB capped it off by donating $17,000 to push the total to $500,000 (It would eventually exceed $650,000). Bills Mafia has found their QB in a kid that just 2.5 years earlier was excited to be a part of Buffalo now was saying, “My family is forever engraved here, myself included. I don’t ever want to leave. I want to play for as long as I can and give back to this community and Bills Mafia.”.
EDGE: Josh Allen 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Josh Allen vs. Analytics
We have all heard the line made famous by Jason Kirk, but here it is again; “If Josh Allen succeeds, the Bills will have outsmarted basically all regular humans and the entirety of math itself”. Let’s not sugarcoat it, the Analytics community despised the existence of Josh Allen as a prospect and before he was even drafted deemed it impossible for him to succeed. Kirk cites advanced metrics like S&P+, QBASE, Off-Target Rates, and “NFL Throw” accuracy as indicators of why his “ceiling” is Ryan Mallet and his closest comparison is Jake Locker. Kirk happened to have the catchy headline and has been a favorite of Josh Allen stans since, but this was just one of many articles written by the analytics community. Most of these analyses used made up stats as evidence to validate their pre-draft perceptions but none did so as viciously as one organization, Pro Football Focus (PFF).
In their pre-draft scouting report of Josh Allen PFF’s Steve Palazzolo & Sam Monson giddily trolled the Wyoming QB. The first statement that stood out, “The absolutely best case scenario is you might end up with a guy who is a little bit worse than Baker Mayfield”. Let’s unpack that statement. PFF is saying that assuming literally everything falls perfectly for Josh Allen at that point in time Allen would still be worse than any level of progression which Baker Mayfield achieves. This statement is so incredibly damning of a prospect that it makes complete sense why it would take years to back off such a statement. The second statement that stood out was, “You’re not going to fix the inaccuracy, it just doesn’t happen, you do not dramatically fix a quarterback’s basic ability to deliver a ball to a target”. Thus, is the trap of analytics, the inability to contextualize statistical observations with everything that leads up to them. It is a simple fact that Josh Allen completed just 56.2% of his passes at Wyoming but the context surrounding that number is up for interpretation. I often argue that while PFF supposedly analyzes every play in order to properly grade football players doing so without knowing what the actual play is, is the equivalent of saying the original version of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno was poorly written, while being unable to read Italian. It is worth noting that PFF has admitted their mistake, though doing so in a backhanded way by referring to it as an “anomaly”, and Sam Monson even filled out the Josh Allen apology form.
Analytics do have a use though and are best used as a piece of evidence in a larger discussion. PFF had failed to interpret how much Wyoming relied on their QB over other teams to a point where he was often required to win games by himself. In fact, in the only 2 games which Allen did not play between 2016 & 2017 Wyoming lost to Fresno State (10-4) & San Jose State (2-11) scoring only 24 combined points in those games. But PFF isn’t the only organization that fails to recognize the intangible parts of a player’s play as in all reality every part of the analytics community falls victim to this. Take ESPN and their made up QBR, which interestingly is built off a proprietary “formula” which ESPN refuses to educate the public on. In 2019 QBR, which measures a QBs “contributions to his team’s fortunes”, ranked Josh Allen 24th behind the likes of Jacoby Brissett (#21), Daniel Jones (#18), and Jameis Winston (#16). In normal passer rating, a formula available to everyone, these 3 QBs combined for a rating of 81.3 which was 4 less than Allen’s 85.3. These 3 QBs also combined for 757 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs where Allen had 510 rushing yards and 9 rushing TDs, numbers QBR supposedly takes into consideration. Last, Brissett, Jones, and Winston had a combined record of 17-27 (.386) while Josh’s Bills went 10-5 (.667), Week 17 removed. Like QBR all these stats lack true context but in simply watching any of these four QBs play in 2019 are their truly people out there that would argue Allen is significantly worse than 30 interception Jameis Winston? Like PFF, ESPN’s QBR has corrected its mistakes and currently has Allen ranked the 5th best QB in 2020 (he has also played much better). Still for reasons described above many within, and outside, the Bills community look at QBR as nothing more than a statistic used by Madden to help formulate their player ratings (Where Allen is currently ranked 12th).
EDGE: Josh Allen 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Josh Allen vs. The NFL
How did NFL players feel when the Bills drafted Josh Allen? A good word is probably “Excited”. “I think Allen is trash. I don’t care what nobody say. He’s trash. And it’s gonna show too. That’s a stupid draft pick to me.” – Jalen Ramsey. “Can’t wait to catch passes from one of my fav QB’s” – Jamal Adams. Ramsey and Adams were clearly the most vocal players early on in Allen’s career but there were obviously more that silently drooled over the prospects of playing Allen. Allen’s rookie preseason as well as him “losing” the QB battle to Nathan Peterman were likely the nail in the coffin for many players perceptions of Allen, that is until Allen electrified the NFL.
Allen’s ability to make ridiculous play after ridiculous play has earned the respect of most all his peers. Whether it be the Barr leap, putting Kiko Alonso in the spin cycle, single handedly gaining a 1st down on Thanksgiving, or shocking opponents with the freak plays he is able to make Allen has been able to shut up the doubters and inspire fans out of his opponents. Even his most vocal doubter, Jalen Ramsey, Allen was able to tongue tie after beating his Jaguars in 2018. This has progressed further in 2020 where opponents interviewed prior to games are consistently lauding him. Players like Aaron Donald and Johnathan Abram heaped praise on Allen both before and after the game but the person which demonstrates best how much the NFL respects Allen is not one who straps a helmet on each week. There is nothing more telling about the respect of an opposing QB than how the defenses attempt to stop him which is why when Bill Belichick ran 5+ DBs on every single non-kneel snap of the Bills’ game you knew that the respect had reached a whole different level. The greatest coach of all time now looks at the JA led Buffalo passing attack as the most important element to stop wen playing the Bills.
2020 has evolved Josh Allen’s profile but even coming into this season his NFL peers were singing his praises. In the yearly NFL Top-100 NFL players voted Allen as the 87th best player in the NFL. This list is always a point of contention and I fully admit it is one I don’t subscribe to but that fact that Allen so quickly has been able to change his perception in the NFL is telling. But it starts and ends in Buffalo where Allen’s teammates rarely have a negative thing to say about the QB. After his 400+ yard performance in Week 2 the comments his teammates made in their postgame pressers said it all. “Jeeez, Dang Josh!”, “He’s the leader of our team and we’re riding behind him”, “He’s the General”. Ok, maybe you want to hear these things from a Buffalo Bills’ great, how bout Kyle Williams? Before the 2019 season Williams explained just who Allen is and what he means to this team when he said, “[Allen’s] a connector of men and people. He can bring people together. People tend to gravitate to him. That is an encouraging thing for the organization and for guys that are going to come to Buffalo and they’re going to come and play in this city and this organization, is to have that guy, the bell-cow, the quarterback, be that type of guy.”
EDGE: Josh Allen 👏 👏 👏 👏
Josh Allen vs. Sports Media
Like the analytics community Sports Media has been after Allen since before a football even touched his fingertips in Buffalo, and for the most part they have maintained this assault. Ultimately these talking heads spend more time building narratives based off box score and highlight watching than they do breaking down any form of tape. Honestly, it makes sense, they are entertainers after all with an emphasis on gaining views and drawing clicks more from the masses than pandering to people looking for detailed breakdowns of games. Still, to Bills Mafia and the NFL community as a whole, it becomes tiresome and incredibly frustrating to listen to these people talk about things as if they have a deeper understanding than the people who have watched every play, to a point where they demean the fans and players alike. Still this may be a losing battle and out of the 4 matchups I have broken down in this post this is the one that is nearly unwinnable. As the next 2 people will demonstrate, some people just refuse to admit they are wrong.
The first of these is Nick Wright who has been on my radar for a while as an avid listener of Mad Dog Radio, where his takes are often so outlandish you question whether he means anything he says. While Wright flip flops more than a pair of Reefs on the Jersey Shore, more often than not he spends his time slamming Allen with such little context it’s laughable. Beginning in 2018 Wright proved he had never watched Tyrod Taylor play football by saying that whoever started for Buffalo, followed by jokes about Josh Allen, represented the biggest downgrade in the entire NFL from 2017 to 2018. This narrative was one he held onto for quite some time but for the most part remained silent on Josh Allen until recent MVP talks required him to speak. In discussing his chances of MVP 3 games into the season, when by the way JA had 1122 yards & 12 TDS. Nick Wright said, “His chance of winning league MVP is approximately 0%”. In the same segment Wright goes on to say that he will never admit he is wrong about Josh Allen because to him he is right about the “Honorable Mention All Big-West” QB. Wright has been an utter mess covering Josh Allen but has been no-where near as bad as Colin Cowherd.
When Cowherd first heard that the Browns were considering taking Josh Allen with the #1 pick instead of Sam Darnold he likened it to the Charlotte Hornets trading Kobe Bryant for Vlade Divac in 1996. Fast forward to just before the 2020 season where Allen’s contemporaries voted him the 87th best player in the NFL (More on this later) and Cowherd had the audacity to say that Allen isn’t even a Top 200 player in the NFL. Remember, this is coming off a season in which Josh Allen had 29TDs, ranking 6th in the NFL. Even as recently as November 5 of 2020 Cowherd put Josh Allen in Tier 3 or 3 as a QB that the Bills will need to consider moving on from incoming seasons. No joke, he had Carson Wentz in Tier 2 over Allen. In a society where people are consistently unwilling to admit their mistakes Cowherd exemplifies this inability by refusing to back off a statement that was so blatantly false that he makes even Sam Monson look like an angel.
EDGE: Josh Allen 👏
Why He Won’t Succeed
It is possible that 2020 is a blip on the radar that will be Josh Allen’s career. Even through his domination of 2020 there are a few moments that make you scratch your head. Look no further than the Titans game where down by 11, with 3:26 left in the 3rd, Allen threw an awful interception which turned a close game into a blowout. This is just the boom or bust player he is which also shows up in his run game. Sure, he has plays where he bulldozes LBs, but he also clearly has a fumbling problem and takes way more big hits than any franchise would want of their QB.
The question is whether or not Allen can keep improving and reduce the mistakes. Maybe its just his incredible receiving corps in 2020 of Diggs, Brown, and Beasley which is arguably the best trio in the NFL. Could it be possible that these receivers are the keys to Allen’s success instead of the other way around? Think further, what if the Bills make the playoffs and lose their first game while Allen struggles. Then is their fear Allen can’t win the games that matter? These are very real possibilities and while only time will tell there is the possibility, they Josh Allen won’t succeed.
Why He Will Succeed
But he already has succeeded. Allen has succeeded in proving every doubter that said he could never be an average NFL QB wrong, to a point where him and Lamar Jackson have left Mayfield, Darnold, and Rosen in the dust for best QB from the 2018 draft. Now when we talk about succeed, we talk about the term “Franchise QB” and wonder whether Allen can be that guy for the next 5, 10, 15 years for Buffalo and lead them back to the glory of the 90s.
As for any knocks on him now, sure he has a few frustrating moments but by all measures he is playing like a Top-5 QB in the NFL. Honestly, name me 5 QBs better than Allen in 2020, I’ll wait (Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, …). Allen is doing what great QBs do, make everyone around him better. John Brown just had a career year and now both Cole Beasley and Stefon Diggs are on pace for the best of theirs. Frankly, Allen is playing QB better than any player ever has in a Bills’ uniform. Yea I said it, as of this moment Allen is playing QB better than Jim Kelly, Joe Ferguson, or Doug Flutie but don’t get it twisted that doesn’t mean he is the greatest QB in Bills’ history. No, great QB is reserved for the one that gets you to the dance, best is for the one that wins it. Will Josh Allen succeed?
Prediction: 1 Super Bowl Win, Buffalo Bills QB through 2030+, Hall of “Very Good”
JA is a special cat and I've had more fun rooting for him in 2020 than I have any athlete in my lifetime. There is something about the player that every outsider tries to tear down and that a fan base continually props up. It’s something else when that player rewards you by improving to a point where he is in the conversation for the MVP of his league. I don’t know what the future holds, and it could be packed with regression and heartbreak, but at least for now I am comfortable, for the first time in my Bills’ fandom, repeating “We have a Franchise QB”.

2020.11.15 13:19 KagsTheOneAndOnly GOAT Dictionary?

Hey GOATs, share you guys's favourite "GOAT Podcast"/"Open Floor" in-jokes or turns of phrase in the comments so that I can add them to this "GOAT dictionary" :)
Here are some of mine off the top of my head, do correct me if I got something wrong or tell me if you would like to edit or add more context to the definitions---
  • Phrase: 12-time Tatum
Definition: A humorous, mildly prophetic prediction (?) made in the Open Floor era about rookie Jayson Tatum going on to make 12 All-Star teams in his career
  • Phrase: Playing with purpose, not playing with a purpose
Definition: Playing like Russell Westbrook. A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: "Do you have a mouse in your pocket or...?"
Definition: Used by Podcaster Ben whenever Podcaster Andrew includes Ben in one of his takes without consulting Ben prior to releasing said take, e.g. Andrew saying "I think we both agree that Trae's ceiling is higher than Luka's" followed immediately by Ben cutting in with a snappy, "Do you have a mouse in your pocket or... 'cuz I do not agree with that" (or something along those lines)
  • Phrase: Greased Pig
Definition: Andrew Sharp. (To be more precise, Sharp's tendency to flip-flop on various topics)
  • Phrase: Sorry Elizabeth
Definition: The podcaster apologises to young listener Elizabeth for swearing (unintentionally or otherwise) during the podcast. Only Andrew swears, but the phrase has been used by both podcasters.
  • Phrase: Giannis Inc.
Definition: A GOAT-founded corporation championing Giannis Antetokounmpo, 2-time NBA MVP and the patron saint of the podcast. (Context: both podcasters adore Giannis.) Podcaster Ben is Giannis Inc.’s co-founder and its current President; Podcaster Andrew is also a co-founder, but was forcibly removed from his position following an executive board decision earlier in 2020 after differences of opinion regarding Giannis and the direction of his current team, the Milwaukee Bucks.
  • Phrase: 12-time Enterprises
Definition: Another GOAT-founded corporation, started by Podcaster Sharp following his unceremonious ousting from Giannis Inc. (See: 12-Time Tatum)
  • Phrase: Loose Lips Paul
Definition: Refers to Los Angeles Clippers All-Star Paul George running his mouth at post-game podiums, dating back to his time on the Indiana Pacers
  • Phrase: Root Canal Reggie
Definition: I can't remember the exact scenario which prompted this term's creation, but it likely refers to Los Angeles Clippers guard Reggie Jackson's decision-making on offense being so excruciatingly painful to watch that it reminds the podcaster of a root canal operation
  • Phrase: Influencing the Influencers
Definition: Podcaster Ben (either meant in jest or otherwise) influences several influential members of society with his incredible wisdom
  • Phrase: Fence-sitting Pig
Definition: A variation of "Greased Pig", where Podcaster Andrew not only changes his opinions frequently but sometimes sits on the fence entirely, refusing to commit to a take one way or another
  • Phrase: The Best Ability is Availability
Definition: Another supposed Golliver-ism. One of the core tenets of the podcast.
  • Phrase: Andrew Sharp Reports
Definition: A recurring segment on the podcast coined by Podcaster Ben, where Podcaster Andrew reveals his true, candid, unedited thoughts on a given topic
  • Phrase: "You're Right about the Little Things, I'm Right about the Big Things"

  • Phrase: Spurs Monastery
Definition: A religion which members of the San Antonio Spurs organisation and fanbase subscribe to. Bitheistic: Pop and Duncan. (Context: Podcaster Ben is a devotee.)
  • Phrase: (Not) Fronting for the GOATs
Definition: (Not) putting up a false front in front of the GOAT podcast's listeners, and speaking things which the podcaster doesn't truly believe in, or saying things just for the sake of saying them. One of the core tenets of the podcast.
  • Phrase: Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints
Definition: (or something like that) An adopted Golliver-ism which applies for anyone who visits a natural landmark
  • Phrase: Never judge a player on his best day, or on his worst day
Definition: Refers to not overreacting to single game performances. A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: Cute Story
Definition: Overperforming, fun-to-root-for underdog teams who fail to make it deep in the playoffs. Apparently not meant as an insult. Examples include the 2016 Hawks, the 2018 Raptors, and/or the 2020 Bucks Thunder.
  • Phrase: Ben Golliver Reports
Definition: The Ben Golliver version of "Andrew Sharp Reports"
  • Phrase: Saikofent
Definition: Podcaster Andrew's pronunciation of "sycophant"
  • Phrase: "(YouMy) Nephew, Brandon Ingram"
Definition: A little known tidbit for newer listeners - New Orleans Pelicans All-Star wing Brandon Ingram is Podcaster Andrew's estranged nephew

EDITS (thanks GOATs ❤️):

  • Phrase: Toronto Termites
Definition: The ravenous, imperishable, innumerable Toronto Raptor fans who subscribe to the GOAT podcast and have emailed in for years to defend DeMar and Lowry’s honour from repeated Golliver slander
  • Phrase: Win Connoisseur
Definition: Valuing wins regardless of cost, context or process; favor dynasties, including ‘90s Bulls and Alabama football. A Golliver-ism

  • Phrase: "Let's save that conversation for another time"
Definition: Andrew's new favorite segue where he tables a conversation with no intention of ever coming back to it.
  • Phrase: "I don't think my brain is ready for that/this yet"
Definition: A phrase used by Andrew whenever he refuses to conceive of a future possibility (e.g. a trade), or to think about a recent momentous shift in the league. This sometimes irks Golliver, and there has been an episode where he had enough of it, snapping back by saying "Well, get your brain ready!"
  • Phrase: West Coast elitist / Western Conference elitism
Definition: Referring to Podcaster Ben's oft-saddled high-horse regarding the absolute superiority of the Western Conference over the East. One of the core tenets of the podcast. (Context: Podcaster Andrew is a proud son of the East.)
  • Phrase: Sunrise Conference
Definition: (See - West Coast elitist.) The Eastern Conference. A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: Triple A / AAA
Definition: (See - West Coast elitist.) The Eastern Conference. A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: The Show
Definition: (See - West Coast elitist.) The Western Conference. A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: Paul Milsap exchange rate
Definition: (See - West Coast elitist.) A humorous allusion made to the "inflation" that happens to a player's value when they move from the Western conference to the East, due to the lower levels of competition present in the East Coast, as seen when Paul Millsap moved from Utah to Atlanta in the 2013-14 season and immediately became a 4-time All-Star.
  • Phrase: Scott Travis
Definition: Travis Scott, American rapper, whose name has been affectionately butchered on the podcast for years now. He is another patron saint of the podcast.
  • Phrase: Beaverton, OR.
Definition: Famous for Drake music videos, home of Nike, hometown of basketball luminaries Ben Golliver and Ian Karmel.
  • Phrase: Bystander to his own life/reality
Definition: Carmelo Anthony - specifically post-Knicks, pre-Blazers Melo, referring how he was spending his post-prime years refusing to change his inefficient playstyle to adapt to the modern era or adjust his attitude towards demanding a starting role as playoff teams understandably passed him by, gradually resulting him in being phased out of the league altogether, before his heartwarming return to the collective NBA subconscious this past season with Dame and Portland. A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: 7-11 employee
Definition: Luka Dončić. An infamous Sharp-ism, body-shaming the 21 y/o Slovenian superstar. (Context: Andrew was an adamant Luka-skeptic, refusing to believe in the Luka magic, before making one of the greatest Heel-Face Turns of the 21st century & pivoting himself to the right side of history midway through the historic NBA Bubble, apparently after watching a flashy between-the-legs pocket pass Luka made in the clutch against the league-leading Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Inc. as part of a masterful 36 point-19 assist performance to lead the Mavs to a thrilling OT-win against the reigning league MVP.)
  • Phrase: "Ky-Lee"
Definition: Podcaster Golliver's pronunciation of Kylie Jenner's name
  • Phrase: "A-key-lees"
Definition: Podcaster Sharp's pronunciation of Achilles.
  • Phrase: "...MY Boston Celtics"
Definition: Podcaster Sharp's partially joking, partially self-hating embrace of the Boston Celtics fandom in recent years. (Context: Andrew is a semi-retired lifelong Wizards fan, pending how well or poorly John Wall plays following his return this upcoming season.)
  • Phrase: #BlueBubbleGang
Definition: Apple elitists. As summarized by Podcaster Sharp, "Whatever a sneakerhead is for Apple products, that's what Ben Golliver is." A Golliver-ism.
  • Phrase: Takesmen
Definition: Fans and analysts who provide basketball-related takes that are so beautifully refined and finely fermented that they can only be referred to by the highest of epithets --- "Takesmen". (Context: Ben & Andrew talked with Shaq & Chuck during the 2019 All-Star weekend and their scorching-hot takes inspired the creation of the term.)
  • Phrase: Heaters
Definition: HOT, HOT takes. E.g. Zion is going to be Rodney Rogers.
  • Phrase: LeBronzo
Definition: Started in 2018 Summer League, this was Podcaster Golliver's crusade to pair the brands of LeBron James and Lonzo Ball, a prophecy that was finally fulfilled (at least temporarily) when LeBron actually joined Lonzo's Lakers a year later
  • Phrase: "I want to take a moment to apologise to the listeners..."
Definition: A phrase used by Andrew when Ben goes off on a rant or when the duo get sidetracked and go off on several humorous, often not-NBA-related tangents for 20 or so minutes (peak GOAT content)
  • Phrase: Ben's biggest hater
Definition: Podcaster Golliver's biggest hater is his mom
  • Phrase: "KahDay"
Definition: Cade Cunningham, future lottery pick, whose name Podcaster Sharp confidently mispronounced during a quarantine episode after ill-advisedly taking a random Twitter user's words seriously. Has since been fact-checked, but much like 'Saikofant', "KahDay" is now a part of GOAT lore
  • Phrase: Ranger Rick
Definition: Affectionately used to refer to Podcaster Golliver's nature-loving, National-Park-roaming tendencies
  • Phrase: BonHeads
Definition: A humorous reference to Bon Iver fans, who went after Podcaster Golliver after he dissed Iver while discussing the latter's presence in Taylor Swift album "Folklore". Far from apologizing, Ben doubled down in very Golliver-fashion and the name has stuck ever since
  • Phrase: Brickhead
Definition: Lego-fans. Both podcasters are now brickheads, as is, apparently, Myles Turner.
  • Phrase: Reality-based person
Definition: Ben Golliver
  • Phrase: "Andrew’s on social media, but don’t even worry about it"
Definition: Part of Golliver's closing spiel during every podcast
  • Phrase: Kevin Durant, role player
Definition: A memorable, half-joking Sharp heater from the Warriors KD era (See: Heaters.)
  • Phrase: Stonehenge witches conspiracy theories
Definition: A Golliver rant from early Open Floor days during which Andrew went from bemused listener to invested participant
  • Phrase: The Lantern
Definition: A recurring segment on the podcast where Ben releases a not-necessarily-basketball-related prompt on his Instagram and listeners can respond with their personal stories and/or takes on the topic
  • Phrase: Power-ranking World War 2 countries
Definition: A hilarious and controversial Golliver-sparked conversation that the duo had during the 2019 offseason. Some memorable quotes: "Never judge people on their best day, or their worst day...I need to do a more balanced analysis of Germany's role in WW2 --- I can't just rush to say America's number 1 and Germany's dead-last"; "Is Blitzkrieg fighting with Purpose or A Purpose?"; "The Greatest Ability is Availability, and Russia was very available in world war 2"; and "Should we really be numerically ranking human beings?"
  • Phrase: Coffee-Shop Kyrie
Definition: Referring to Brooklyn Nets guard and America’s favourite fake deep superhero Kyrie Irving, inspired by his faux-intellectual ramblings to reporters and on social media. To quote Golliver, "'Very Much Woke' is definitely the name of the coffee-shop where Kyrie does his Beat Poetry - there's no question about that"

2020.11.14 23:58 loudchoice A history of JYP male trainees

So I made a similar post a few months ago, but I decided to redo with a expanded list. I’ve gone through every single boygroup listed on kprofiles and found every former JYP boy I could, tracked their debut and progress in JYP and then listed where they ended up (If we ever found out).

2020.11.12 05:27 1000000students Trump Sexual Allegations

VIDEO-Trump told 14-year-old girl he'd be dating her soon
Alva Johonson, a former Trump campaign staffer, said she had to avoid a kiss from Mr Trump while on a trip to Florida in August of 2016. The White House has denied this most recent accusation, as have some members of the Trump team who say they were present.
E. Jean Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in a department store dressing room the mid-1990s. "The moment the dressing-room door closed, he lunged at me, pushes me against the wall, hitting my head quite badly, and puts his mouth against my lips, He unzips his pants, and, forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis halfway — or completely, I'm not certain — inside me."
Juliet Huddy, Former Fox News anchor, said on the "Mornin!!! With Bill Schulz" podcast in December 2017 that Trump kissed her on the lips without her consent after a meeting in Trump Tower in Manhattan in 2005 or 2006.
Rachel Crooks told the New York Times in October 2016 that Trump kissed her on the mouth without her consent when she introduced herself him in 2005 Trump Tower in Manhattan, where she worked as a receptionist. She told the Times that she and Trump shook hands and then he kissed her "directly on the mouth."
Jessica Leeds, a former traveling salesperson, alleged that Mr Trump grabbed her breasts and tried to put his hand up her skirt while on a first-class flight in the 1980s. Ms Leeds was in her late 30s at the time.
Victoria Hughes, A former Miss New Mexico, said Trump first introduced himself to the teenage contestants when he unexpectedly walked into their dressing room."It was certainly the most inappropriate time to meet us all for the first time"
Ivana Trump, Mr Trump’s first wife, once used the word “rape” to describe an encounter with him. The accusation was made in a 1993 book following a divorce settlement between the two. She has since softened her language, saying that she didn’t mean the word in a “literal or criminal sense”.
Jill Harth, a former business partner of Mr Trump’s, said that Mr Trump forcibly kissed her on the lips, groped her breasts, and grabbed her genitals in what she described in a 1997 as an “attempted rape”. The encounter allegedly occurred at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, in one of his children’s bedroom. She also says that Mr Trump groped her under the table at a dinner with colleagues at the Plaza Hotel.
Kristen Anderson alleged that Mr Trump put his hand up her skirt and touched her genitals over her underwear at the China Club in Manhattan at some point in the early 1990s when she was in her early 20s. Ms Anderson was an aspiring model at the time.
Lisa Boyne accused Mr Trump of insisting that female models walk across a table at a New York restaurant in 1996, and then remarking on their underwear and genitalia. She was 25 at the time.
Temple Taggart, a former Miss Utah, alleged that Mr Trump forcibly kissed her on the mouth on two different occasions. The first incident was the first time that they met. The incidents occurred at the 1997 Miss USA pageant event, and in Trump Tower.
Mariah Billado, a former Miss Vermont Teen USA, has alleged that says that Mr Trump walked into a dressing room unannounced in 1997. She said that there were several teen beauty queens aged between 15 and 19 in the room naked at the time.
Karena Virginia alleged that Mr Trump grabbed her arm and touched her breast while she was waiting for a car after the US Open.
Bridget Sullivan, a former Miss New Hampshire, alleged that Mr Trump walked into the Miss USA pageant dressing room in 2000 while contestants were naked. She was 19 at the time.
Tasha Dixon, a former Miss Arizona, alleged that Mr Trump entered dressing rooms at the Miss USA pageant in 2001 while contestants were “half-naked”.
Melinda Macgillivray alleged that Mr Trump grabbed her buttock in a pavilion behind the main house of his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2003. They were in the middle of a group of people, she said, and it was during a concert performed by Ray Charles.
Jennifer Murphy said that Mr Trump forcibly kissed her after a job interview in 2005. She was 26 at the time.
Rachel Cooks alleged that Mr Trump kissed her forcibly on the lips outside the elevator in Trump Tower in 2005. She was 22 at the time.
Natasha Stoynoff alleged that Mr Trump pushed her against a wall and forcibly kissed her in a closed-door room in his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2005. Ms Stoynoff, a writer for PEOPLE magazine, was there to interview Mr Trump.
Ninni Laaksonen alleged that Mr Trump grabbed her buttocks while taking photos outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, and before Mr Trump appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. Ms Laaksonen was 20 at the time, in 2006.

2020.11.09 21:17 orangesocialcurrency How is my path to FIRE? Seeking advice (28/M)

Hey FIRE gang, I've been a long time lurker very interested in the whole FIRE movement. As the title mentions, I am looking for any advice or tips you might have to help me further understand how I can achieve FIRE. I am using the end of 2020 to really kick things up a notch and really take advantage of my 30's so I don't have to work forever. It's also open enrollment time at work so I am looking at things I can do now to help later.
For background, I turned 28 in July and I have a current net worth of about $60k. My yearly salary is $62.5k (before taxes). I work in the entertainment industry so I'm usually based in Los Angeles, but I decided to throw all my stuff in a storage unit in August. I'm currently just working remotely with family for the double benefit of family time/saving major $$$.
For the end of 2018 and most of 2019, I was either unemployed or underemployed AF and making like $19/hr. I finally got a job in March 2020 that I am lucky enough to say I like. Very grateful/blessed that I found my current job right before the current pandemic. I literally spent SIX days in the office before we went remote for the foreseeable future. Company perks: they pay 90% of health insurance, 80% of dental insurance, and match 100% up to the first 5% of my 401k contributions. (I only became eligible for the 401k plan in September 2020)
I'm happy to say I have NO DEBT. I still drive my first car and was very fortunate to have my dad pass on his G.I Bill benefits to help me get through college and grad school without the heavy burden of student loans. I have two credit cards I use mostly for points and benefits. They NEVER hold a balance cause I'm allergic to paying interest.
Full disclosure: I'm still on my parent's phone plan, and they cover my car insurance but I really want to move off of that in the next year since my dad is officially retired (31 years in the Navy!). I'm very mindful and aware of the "lottery of life" that I have won in many aspects.
I don't see myself living in LA forever, especially if my job becomes fully remote, so long term goals include buying an adventure vehicle/daily driver and hopefully one day being a homeowner! I've always wanted to be a "dad" so marriage and a couple of kids would ideally be a part of my (not distant) future.
I've always been too shy to speak with a financial planner (honestly I have no idea why) and everything I've done so far for my financial situation is pretty much a result of things I've learned from online/youtube research, never paying full price/buying used when possible and avoiding "lifestyle creep".
Since I'm fortunate to save so much during the pandemic, I bumped my 401k contributions to 15% of my paycheck, and I save an extra $1,600 by not paying rent. I pay about $80/month for my storage unit in LA.
I'm always open to learning more and gladly welcome any suggestions on things I could be doing better, or differently. In regards to investments and stocks, I'd say I'm still VERY novice and still have much to learn!
Here is my CURRENT net worth break down: (Total: $59.699.50)
CASH (Total: $8,071.07) 1. Checking account (Navy Federal Credit Union account that I've had since I was a baby!): $197.24 2. Savings account (also NFCU): $3,648.69 (for money typically used on monthly expenses like rent and utilities. I deposit ~$900 each paycheck.) 3. HYSA account: 3,325.91(I direct deposit about $150 in here every paycheck for emergency money for me our my dog.) 4. Qapital savings app: $767.76 (will probably be used on holiday gifts TBH) Old HSA from my first "real" job: $131.47
INVESTMENTS (Total: $51,796.75) 1. 401k: $28,618.86 ($25k was rolled over from an old 401k account from my first job, all of this money sits in a target-date fund with Transamerica, but I'm told our company is changing providers in the new year.) 2. Acorns: $5,468.18 (I made this on a whim 3 years ago and started with $3k. It's easy to use but I don't see this as a forever thing.) 3. Roth IRA: $12,408.64 (I opened this in 2018 while I was unemployed and maxed out contributions in the 2 years I've had it. I'm not 100% sure it is a "real" IRA plan as it has a set return rate of 3.680% for 40 months. The maturity date is 5/10/2022. Maybe I would use this money for a down payment on a home somewhere down the line, or just continue to leave it open or just move it to a different investment vehicle.) 4. Fidelity account: $5,301.07 (This is my first mutual fund account that I just opened a week ago with $5,000 I saved from not spending money on rent, and the stimulus check, it's currently all in FXAIX)
For reference, here is how I allocated my last paycheck (Gross pay: $2604.17): 1. Taxes (19%): -$492.50 2. Pre-Tax Benefits (16%): -427.95 ($32.10 health, 5.22 dental, 390.63 401K contribution) 3. Net Pay: +$1683.72 ($1,515.35 to checking account which I then split amongst my various savings/expenses/credit card spending accounts, $168.37 to HYSA) 4.Employer Covered (aka free to me): $444.65 (health: $288.90, dental $20.88, life and AD&D $1.06, long-term disability $3.60, 401k match $130.21)
Closing notes: Some obvious things I know I need to do for 2021 is to max out contributions for my IRA & 401k. I am also looking into finding a health plan with an HSA so I can take advantage of those tax benefits. Using real estate as an investment vehicle is another thing I am interested in, but that still feels like 5 years away. While I love the "spare change" aspect of my Acorns account, I would love any advice on how I could transfer the balance in that account over to something that would work better for me.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through this if you made it this far, and I look forward to any and all advice you have!

"Eboni K. Williams says race is "absolutely discussed" in the upcoming season of The Real Housewives of New York City.
During an interview with SiriusXM's Bevy Smith on Bevelations, Williams, 37, opened up about navigating conversations about race as the show's first Black star.
"Race is absolutely discussed, I think in responsible, but very authentic ways on this season," she said. "It's already happening. I can tell you that much. We're still very much in our filming process. I believe it will continue to happen because it's what you said — it's unavoidable."
"I'm not one to bite my tongue or ignore the big elephant in the room," she added. "When it's brought to me to discuss, you know, as we say in the South, I cut no cards."
"But listen, I'm also not the preachy type. I'm not here to lecture you," she continued. "I have two full-time jobs — one is not to be a professor to white women about Black America, 'cause that doesn't pay. However, what I am is a human, and somebody that thinks that God has blessed me with a particular temperament and skillset to engage in these dialogues, responsibly and authentically.”
The lawyer and TV host went on to explain why she decided to join the cast of the Bravo reality show in the first place.
"People know me as a lawyer. People know me as a journalist. People know me as a broadcaster. People don't know my heart," she said. "People don't know me as a friend. People don't know me as a lover. And I'm excited to share that."
"So I'm open hearted with these ladies, too," she continued. "I'm not going to take no bulls--- and I'm not going to play with them. But listen, when they show me they want to grow, I'm open and so excited to support them in their growth."
She also shared that she has developed a close relationship with fellow housewife Leah McSweeney, who joined the cast last season. At 38 and 37, respectively, McSweeney and Williams are the series' youngest cast members, which helped them bond from the get-go. Returning Housewives Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan will round out the season 13 group.
"I call Leah Black-adjacent — she's adjacent to the culture," Williams said. "And sometimes with our adjacent friends, they mean well, but they come on a little strong ... Leah does not do too much and I so love that about her."
"Leah is exactly who she is, she's unapologetic about who she is. She acknowledges how the culture — our culture — has influenced her career and her aesthetic and her lens and she pays homage," Williams added of her new friend. "She's not trying to be a Black girl and I really, really love that about Leah."
A premiere date for season 13 of RHONY has not yet been announced."
“Tamra for me, for a very long time, was the perfect Housewife,” admits Cohen. “There was just always a lot going on with her.”
He continued, “There are two buckets. The personal story bucket and she always had a lot of personal story going, and then there’s the bucket of how they’re relating to the other women, and she always had both.”
With that said, it seems the door is certainly open for the 53-year-old to make a return."
"Emily Simpson explained why she did not attend Kelly Dodd and Rick Leventhal‘s wedding on the November 4 episode of Watch What Happens Live.
Weeks after the couple said, “I do,” the Real Housewives of Orange County cast member spoke to Andy Cohen about her absence at the event, addressed Jim Bellino‘s lawsuit against her co-star, Shannon Beador, and discussed the behavior of both Braunwyn Windham-Burke and her husband, Sean Burke.
“We are close and it just didn’t work out,” Emily said on the WWHL: After Show after being asked why she didn’t attend Kelly’s wedding. “It was very last minute and she could only invite like 20 people because of COVID and she had a small venue so obviously her family and Rick’s family were first priority.”
In addition to being close to Kelly, Emily said she’s also close to former RHOC cast member Alexis Bellino, whose ex-husband sued Shannon and Tamra Judge for defamation in 2018 after they suggested he was headed to jail on Heather McDonald's podcast. However, Emily went on to say that despite her closeness to Alexis, she did not try to fix things between Jim and Shannon.
“The whole thing with Jim Bellino has nothing to do with me and I never talked about Shannon’s case with Alexis before,” she explained.
During the live broadcast of WWHL, the RHOC star was asked about why she was so tough on Braunwyn after she admitted to being an alcoholic.
“I don’t feel like I ganged up on her. Just because you’re going through sobriety doesn’t mean you get a hall pass to do whatever you want and say whatever you want. I still think you have to be a good human,” Emily said.
She then put Braunwyn on blast for suggesting she was busy when she seems to be anything but.
“I found it interesting when she said she didn’t have time when I know she has no job and she has two nannies and she’s home all day. I just thought the time excuse was ridiculous,” she admitted.
As for her thoughts on the way in which Sean involved himself in the drama between Braunwyn and Gina Kirschenheiter at Shannon’s event, Emily said it was wrong for him to get involved.
“He needed to walk away and take Braunwyn and go home. She obviously wasn’t doing well. She wasn’t handling the party well. She was out of sorts. So I think the best thing for him to do was to avoid causing further issues and just take his wife home,” she explained."
"The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne and her husband, Tom Girardi, were on two different paths long before calling off their 21-year marriage.
“Erika and Tom had an unconventional marriage, spending a lot of time apart. Several months,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “They would travel separately. Tom gave Erika a very lavish lifestyle, and she enjoyed it.”
After joining the cast of the Bravo reality series in 2015, Erika “gained independence and confidence,” the source adds. “The exposure it has given for her singing career has given Erika a much larger fan base.”
The reality star, 49, filed for divorce from the powerhouse attorney, 81, on Tuesday, November 3. She later said in a statement to Us, “After much consideration, I have decided to end my marriage to Tom Girardi. This is not a step taken lightly or easily. I have great love and respect for Tom and for our years and the lives we built together. It is my absolute wish to proceed through this process with respect and with the privacy that both Tom and I deserve. I request others give us that privacy as well.”
Erika met Tom in the late ‘90s while waitressing at the famed Los Angeles restaurant Chasen’s. They tied the knot in January 1999.
Since becoming a reality TV star, the “XXPEN$IVE” singer has found herself having to address her and the lawyer’s 32-year age difference a number of times on both the small screen and social media.
“It was always a bigger deal to everyone else than it was to either of us,” she wrote in her 2018 book, Pretty Mess. “All a couple really needs is to have the same life philosophy. If you see things the same way, then age, race, religion — none of that comes into play. I have a thirst for knowledge and Tom has a wealth of it. He is a great mentor, a great teacher and somebody I really admire.”
Erika put it more bluntly on RHOBH earlier this year, saying, “I’m tired of having to justify my 20-year marriage. Go get a 20-year marriage and then come f–king talk to me.”
The Chicago star was previously married to Thomas Zizzo, with whom she shares son Tommy, a 26-year-old police officer in L.A.
Us Weekly has reached out to Erika and Tom’s reps for comment."
"When your bestie is also your hairstylist, good times and fabulous hairdos are guaranteed. Case in point: Gizelle Bryant and her hairstylist/BFF Kalxito Blount.
Blount has been styling Gizelle's mane for around 20 years. (You've probably seen him pop up on The Real Housewives of Potomac several times.) Their relationship has had a unique dynamic from the very beginning.
"Jamal [Bryant] introduced me to Gizelle, and I styled her hair. She wasn’t that satisfied with it," Blount told The hair guru wasn't scared off. "So I called her and she was like, 'Well, I like it, but next time let’s do this.' So after that we just hit it off."
Since then, the pair have been creating magical hair moments together — with Gizelle acting as creative director. "Basically, Gizelle is the boss," he explained. "I just follow her direction. She has her own vision and she allows me to, you know, sprinkle a little bit of my creativity. But it’s basically her vision."
While Gizelle ideates the looks, Blount takes them to the next level with his own tricks. When it comes to creating stunning, long-lasting hairstyles on Gizelle like her glamorous 50th birthday 'do or her Season 4 reunion look, Kalixto says the key is proper "haircare first."
"If your hair is healthy, you can do whatever you want," he shared. "If it’s healthy, your hairstyle will definitely last because with split ends, your hairdo's not gonna last."
To ensure Gizelle's strands stay strong and shiny, there are two main products Blount uses on the Potomac beauty: Moisturizing Detangling Leave-In Conditioner and Ultimate Edge & Scalp Balm, both from his haircare line, Kalixto B Hair Wellness.
"The scalp balm hydrates Gizelle’s edges and her scalp without buildup. And the leave-in just protects her hair through any heat damage, and it has proteins in it, so it keeps her hair really, really healthy."

2020.11.02 10:14 Candy-Reasonable /r/neoliberal election the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, 2021 [ Read the entire post before voting! ]

The /neoliberal election : Speaker of the House of Representatives
Nancy Patricia Pelosi (née D'Alesandro) : (She) is an American politician serving as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives since 2019, and previously from 2007 to 2011. Pelosi has served as a U.S. Representative from California since 1987. A member of the Democratic Party, she is the only woman in U.S. history to serve as Speaker and the highest-ranking female elected official in United States history.
Pelosi was first elected to Congress in 1987, following her father, Thomas D'Alesandro Jr., who served as a U.S. representative from Maryland and Mayor of Baltimore, into politics. She is the dean of California's congressional delegation, having begun her 17th term in 2019. Pelosi represents California's 12th congressional district, which comprises four-fifths of the city and county of San Francisco. She initially represented the 5th district (1987–93), and then, when district boundaries were redrawn after the 1990 Census, the 8th district (1993–2013). Pelosi has led the House Democrats since 2003—the first woman to lead a party in Congress—serving twice each as House minority leader (2003–07 and 2011–19) and as Speaker (2007–11 and since 2019).
Pelosi was a major opponent of the Iraq War as well as the Bush administration's 2005 attempt to partially privatize Social Security. During her first speakership, she was instrumental in the passage of many of the Obama administration's landmark bills, including the Affordable Care Act, the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the 2010 Tax Relief Act.
Pelosi lost the speakership in 2011 after the Republican Party won a majority in the House of Representatives in the 2010 elections. But she retained her role as leader of the House Democratic Caucus and returned to the role of House minority leader. In the 2018 midterm elections, the Democrats regained control of the House. When the 116th Congress convened on January 3, 2019, Pelosi was again elected speaker, becoming the first former speaker to return to the post since Sam Rayburn in 1955. Under Pelosi's leadership, the House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump on December 18, 2019.
Her Political Positions : 1. Pelosi was a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, but left in 2003 after being elected House minority leader.
  1. The American Civil Liberties Union's Congressional Scorecard has given Pelosi a lifetime rating of 92% for her voting record on civil liberties. In 2001, she voted in favor of the USA Patriot Act, but voted against reauthorization of certain provisions in 2005. She voted against a Constitutional amendment banning flag-burning.
  2. Pelosi voted against the Secure Fence Act of 2006.
  3. In June 2018, Pelosi visited a federal facility used to detain migrant children separated from their parents and subsequently called for the resignation of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. In July, Pelosi characterized the compromise immigration bill by the Republicans as a "deal with the devil" and noted she had not had conversations with House Speaker Ryan about a legislative solution to the separation of families at the southern border.
  4. Pelosi has long supported LGBT rights. In 1996, she voted against the Defense of Marriage Act, and in 2004 and 2006, she voted against the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment, which would amend the United States Constitution to define marriage federally as being between one man and one woman, thereby overriding states' individual rights to legalize same-sex marriage. When the Supreme Court of California overturned the state's ban on marriage between same-sex couples in 2008, Pelosi released a statement welcoming the "historic decision". She also indirectly voiced her opposition to California Proposition 8, a successful 2008 state ballot initiative which defined marriage in California as a union between one man and one woman.
  5. The LGBT advocacy group Human Rights Campaign gave Pelosi a 100% rating in 2006 for her voting record in the 107th through 109th congresses (2001–2006), indicating that she voted favorably on legislation supported by the organization on every occasion. In 2012, Pelosi said her position on LGBT rights such as same-sex marriage grows from and reflects her Catholic faith; it also places her at odds with Catholic doctrine, which defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman. She said "My religion compels me—and I love it for it—to be against discrimination of any kind in our country, and I consider [the ban on gay marriage] a form of discrimination. I think it's unconstitutional on top of that."
  6. Pelosi supports the Equality Act, a bill that would expand the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2019, she spoke in Congress in favor of the bill and called for ending discrimination against LGBT people. Pelosi also opposes Trump's transgender military ban.
  7. Pelosi supports reform in marijuana laws, although NORML's deputy director Paul Armentano said she and other members of Congress had not done anything to change the laws. She also supports use of medical marijuana.
  8. Pelosi supports the Bush/Obama NSA surveillance program PRISM.
  9. As speaker of the House, Pelosi quietly moved the statue of Robert E. Lee from the National Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol to the Capitol crypt. In Lee's place, she had a statue of Rosa Parks erected. In August 2017, Pelosi said she supported the removal of Confederate monuments and memorials from the Capitol Building.
  10. In 2002, while Pelosi was the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, she was briefed on the ongoing use of "enhanced interrogation techniques", including waterboarding, authorized for a captured terrorist, Abu Zubaydah.
In an April 2009 press conference, Pelosi said, "In that or any other briefing ... we were not, and I repeat, were not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation techniques were used. What they did tell us is that they had some legislative counsel—the Office of Legislative Counsel opinions that they could be used, but not that they would. And they further [...] the point was that if and when they would be used, they would brief Congress at that time."
  1. Pelosi voted against the 1995 Balanced Budget Proposed Constitutional Amendment. (It eventually failed in the Senate.)
  2. As speaker of the house, she also spearheaded the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 as part of the 100-Hour Plan. The Act raises the minimum wage in the United States and the territories of the Northern Marianas Islands and American Samoa. American Samoa was initially absent from the act, but as part of HR 2206 it was included.
  3. Pelosi opposed the welfare reform proposed by President Bush as well as reforms proposed and passed under President Clinton. She also opposed the tax reform signed by President Trump in December 2017, describing it as "probably one of the worst bills in the history of the United States of America ... It robs from the future [and] it rewards the rich ... and corporations at the expense of tens of millions of working middle-class families in our country."
  4. In 1999, Pelosi voted against displaying the Ten Commandments in public buildings, including schools. Pelosi voted for the No Child Left Behind Act, which instituted testing to track students' progress and authorized an increase in overall education spending.
  5. In 2019, Pelosi said climate change was "the existential threat of our time", and called for action to curb climate change.
Pelosi has supported the development of new technologies to reduce U.S. dependence upon foreign oil and remediate the adverse environmental effects of burning fossil fuels. Pelosi has widely supported conservation programs and energy research appropriations. She has also voted to remove an amendment that would allow for oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Pelosi has blocked efforts to revive offshore oil drilling in protected areas, reasoning that offshore drilling could lead to an increase in dependence on fossil fuels.
  1. Pelosi was instrumental in passing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. She was a key figure in convincing President Barack Obama to continue pushing for health-care reform after the election of Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown in a January special election—a defeat seen as potentially fatal to Democratic reform efforts.
  2. She does not endorse Senator Bernie Sanders' bill for single-payer healthcare.
  3. Pelosi voted against the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 and earlier attempts at similar bans, and voted against the criminalization of certain situations where a minor is transported across state lines for an abortion (HR 748, passed).
She has voted in favor of lifting the ban on privately funded abortions at overseas U.S. military facilities (HA 209, rejected); in favor of an amendment that would repeal a provision forbidding servicewomen and dependents from getting an abortion in overseas military hospitals (HA 722, rejected); and in favor of stripping the prohibition of funding for organizations working overseas that use their own funds to provide abortion services, or engage in advocacy related to abortion services (HA 997, rejected). She also voted in favor of the 1998 Abortion Funding Amendment, which would have allowed the use of district funds to promote abortion-related activities, but would have prohibited the use of federal funds.
  1. She supports contraception and family planning.
  2. Pelosi stands in favor of increased background checks for potential gun owners, as well as the banning of assault weapons.
In 2012, she was given a 0% rating by Gun Owners of America and a 7% rating from the National Rifle Association for her stances on gun control.
  1. With regard to Representative Charles Rangel's (D-NY) plan to introduce legislation that would reinstate the draft, Pelosi said she did not support it.
  2. In January 2019 she supported President Trump in his decision to back the leader of the opposition Juan Guaidó during Venezuelan protests and constitutional crisis.
  3. Pelosi initially resisted efforts by some fellow House Democrats to pursue Trump's impeachment, but in September 2019, following revelations of the Trump–Ukraine scandal, announced the beginning of a formal House impeachment inquiry, saying, "The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the Constitution" and that Trump "must be held accountable—no one is above the law."
  4. The House impeachment inquiry focused on efforts by Trump and Trump administration officials to pressure the government of Ukraine to smear former Vice President Joe Biden, a political rival of Trump's, while withholding $400 million in U.S. military aid, and a White House visit, from Ukraine; the inquiry also examined Trump's request in a July 2019 phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to "do us a favor" and investigate Biden. On December 18, 2019, the House voted nearly along party lines to impeach Trump for abuse of power (230–197) and obstruction of Congress (229–198), making him the third president in U.S. history to be impeached.
On Foreign Policy : 1. In 2008, after a meeting with the Dalai Lama and officials in the Tibetan government-in-exile, Pelosi criticized the People's Republic of China for its handling of the unrest in Tibet; addressing a crowd of thousands of Tibetans in Dharamsala, India, Pelosi called on "freedom-loving people" worldwide to denounce China for its human rights abuses in Tibet.
  1. The same year, Pelosi commended the European Parliament for its "bold decision" to award the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Chinese dissident and human rights activist Hu Jia, and called upon the Chinese government "to immediately and unconditionally release Hu Jia from prison and to respect the fundamental freedoms of all the people in China."
  2. Pelosi criticized the imprisonment of Hong Kong democracy activists in August 2017 for their roles in a protest at the Civic Square in front of the Central Government Complex in Hong Kong. She called the ruling an injustice that should "shock the conscience of the world".
  3. In September 2019, Pelosi met with Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong on Capitol Hill; Chinese media responded by accusing Pelosi of "backing and encouraging radical activists".
  4. Pelosi publicly scolded Colombian president Álvaro Uribe during Uribe's May 2007 state visit to America. Pelosi met with Uribe and later released a statement that she and other members of Congress had "expressed growing concerns about the serious allegations" of links between paramilitary groups and Colombian government officials. Pelosi also came out against the Colombian free-trade agreement.
  5. In 2008, Pelosi said: "For years, I have opposed the embargo on Cuba. I don't think it's been successful, and I think we have to remove the travel bans and have more exchanges—people to people exchanges with Cuba."
  6. Pelosi opposed U.S. intervention in the 1991 Gulf War.
  7. Pelosi has generally supported normalization of relations with Iran.
  8. In 2002, Pelosi opposed the Iraq Resolution authorizing President George W. Bush to use military force against Iraq, which passed the House on a 296–133 vote.
  9. Pelosi reaffirms that "America and Israel share an unbreakable bond: in peace and war; and in prosperity and in hardship". Pelosi emphasized that "a strong relationship between the United States and Israel has long been supported by both Democrats and Republicans. America's commitment to the safety and security of the State of Israel is unwavering, ... [h]owever, the war in Iraq has made both America and Israel less safe." Pelosi's voting record shows consistent support for Israel. Pelosi voted in favor of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which urged the federal government to relocate the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Prior to 2006 elections in the Palestinian Authority, she voted for a Congressional initiative disapproving of participation in the elections by Hamas and other organizations defined as terrorist by the legislation. She agrees with the current U.S. stance in support of land-for-peace. She has applauded Israeli "hopeful signs" of offering land while criticizing Palestinian "threats" of not demonstrating peace in turn. She states, "If the Palestinians agree to coordinate with Israel on the evacuation, establish the rule of law, and demonstrate a capacity to govern, the world may be convinced that finally there is a real partner for peace".
  10. Pelosi has voiced heavy criticism over Israel's plan to annex parts of the West Bank and Jordan Valley. She said Israeli annexation would undermine U.S. national security interests.
  11. Nancy Pelosi is one of the few members of Congress to have traveled to North Korea. She has expressed concern about the danger of nuclear proliferation from the North Korean regime, and the ongoing problems of hunger and oppression imposed by that country's leadership.
In August 2017, following Trump's warning that North Korea "will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen" in the event of further threats to the United States, Pelosi said the comments were "recklessly belligerent and demonstrate a grave lack of appreciation for the severity of the North Korean nuclear situation. His saber-rattling and provocative, impulsive rhetoric erode our credibility."
  1. Pelosi opposes the actions of the current Russian regime.
  2. Pelosi supported the NATO-led military intervention in Libya in 2011. She also favored arming Syria's rebel fighters.
  3. In January 2019, Pelosi criticized President Trump's planned withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria and Afghanistan. She called Trump's announcement a "Christmas gift to Vladimir Putin".
  4. In mid-October 2007, after the House Foreign Affairs Committee passed a resolution to label the 1915 killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks as genocide, Pelosi pledged to bring the measure to a vote. The draft resolution prompted warnings from President Bush and fierce criticism from Turkey, with Turkey's Prime Minister saying that approval of the resolution would endanger U.S.–Turkey relations.[260] After House support eroded, the measure's sponsors dropped their call for a vote, and in late October Pelosi agreed to set the matter aside.
The resolution was passed during Pelosi's second term as a speaker. The house voted 405 to 11 in October 2019 to confirm the resolution.
Kevin Owen McCarthy : *(He) is an American politician serving as House Minority Leader in the United States House of Representatives since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as House Majority Leader under Speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan from 2014 to 2019. He has been the U.S. Representative for California's 23rd congressional district since 2007.
He was formerly chairman of the California Young Republicans and the Young Republican National Federation. McCarthy worked as district director for U.S. Representative Bill Thomas, and in 2000 was elected as a trustee to the Kern Community College District. He then served in the California State Assembly from 2002 to 2006, the last two years as Minority Leader. When Thomas retired from the U.S. House in 2006, McCarthy ran to succeed him and won the election. California's 23rd district, numbered as the 22nd district from 2007 to 2013, is based in Bakersfield and includes large sections of Kern County and Tulare County, as well as part of the Quartz Hill neighborhood in northwest Los Angeles County.
McCarthy was elected to House leadership as the Republican Chief Deputy Whip, from 2009 to 2011, and House Majority Whip, from 2011 until August 2014, when he was elected House Majority Leader to replace the outgoing Eric Cantor, who was defeated in his primary election. After announcing his candidacy for Speaker on September 28, 2015, he dropped out of the race on October 8 in favor of Paul Ryan.
When the Republicans lost their majority in the 2018 midterm elections, McCarthy was subsequently elected as House Minority Leader in January 2019, making him the first California Republican to hold the post. McCarthy was also the unsuccessful Republican nominee for Speaker in 2019, losing the election to Nancy Pelosi, a fellow Californian.
His Political Positions :
  1. In 2003, while minority leader in the state assembly, McCarthy "support[ed] most abortion rights, but oppose[d] spending tax dollars on abortions". By 2015, however, McCarthy was a "staunch anti-abortion-rights advocate." McCarthy is a supporter of the Hyde Amendment (a provision, annually renewed by Congress since 1976, that bans federal funds for abortion), and in 2011 co-sponsored a bill, the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act", to make the Hyde Amendment permanent. This bill was especially controversial because it provided an exemption for funding terminations of pregnancies caused by only "forcible rape", which prompted abortion-rights activists to call the bill a redefinition of rape.
  2. On September 17, 2020, McCarthy voted against House Resolution 908 to condemn racism against Asian-Americans related to the COVID-19 pandemic. McCarthy said the resolution was, "a waste of time," and further that, "At the heart of this resolution is the absurd notion that referring to the virus as a Wuhan virus or the China virus is the same as contributing to violence against Asian Americans."
  3. McCarthy was an early supporter of Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, saying that Trump's "intensity" could help the Republicans win House seats.
  4. After the 2018 mid-term elections, in which Democrats won a majority in the House, McCarthy said that Democrats should not investigate President Donald Trump. He described investigations of Trump as a "small agenda", and that "America's too great of a nation to have such a small agenda."
  5. McCarthy and other House Republicans investigated Hillary Clinton for years over the 2012 Benghazi attack. In 2015, McCarthy said that the investigation, which found no evidence of wrong-doing on Clinton's part, had hurt poll numbers.
  6. In October 2019, McCarthy said "there's nothing that the president did wrong" in regards to President Trump requesting that the Ukrainian President start an investigation into 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. McCarthy added, "the President wasn't investigating a campaign rival, the President was trying to get to the bottom, just as every American would want to know, why did we have this Russia hoax that actually started within Ukraine."
  7. That same month, when Trump said "China should start an investigation into the Bidens", McCarthy shortly thereafter went on Fox & Friends to say, "You watch what the president said — he's not saying China should investigate."
  8. He's a climate change denier and supports ending environmental regulations.
  9. More recently, as House minority leader, McCarthy proposed several environmental bills designed to address climate change, which have been described as "narrow" and "modest". They include provisions to extend a tax credit for carbon capture technologies, and to plant trees.
  10. In 2014, McCarthy opposed the renewal of the charter of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, as he expects the private sector to take over the role.
On Foreign Policy :
1. McCarthy received campaign donations from Saudi Arabia's lobbyists.
2. On June 15, 2016, McCarthy told a group of Republicans, "There's two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump. Swear to God." Paul Ryan reminded colleagues the meeting was off the record, saying, "No leaks. This is how we know we're a real family here."
When asked about the comment, McCarthy's spokesman said that "the idea that McCarthy would assert this is absurd and false." After a tape of the comment was made public in May 2017, McCarthy claimed it was "a bad attempt at a joke.
3. In 2019, McCarthy had threatened to take "action" against two new Muslim congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, who have sharply criticized the Israeli government's policies in the Palestinian territories and embraced the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. McCarthy said that if Democrats "do not take action I think you'll see action from myself."
4. McCarthy voiced support for Hong Kong protesters. He wrote that "the NBA seems more worried about losing business than standing up for freedom."
5. In January 2020, after the United States assassinated a top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, McCarthy criticized his Democratic counterpart in the House, Nancy Pelosi, for "defending" Soleimani.
6. McCarthy said he supported Israel's planned annexation of the West Bank. He signed a letter addressed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that reaffirms "the unshakeable alliance between the United States and Israel".
7. As House majority leader, McCarthy led efforts to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare). In March 2017, the House Republican repeal legislation, the American Health Care Act, was pulled from the floor minutes before a scheduled vote. Following changes made during an internal Republican debate, the bill narrowly passed the House, 217–213, in a May 2017 party-line vote.
8. McCarthy opposed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, which added perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disabilities as protected classes under existing federal hate crimes law. He has voted against the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007.
9. Throughout 2018, McCarthy opposed efforts to codify the legal status of DREAMers after Trump suspended Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) which provided temporary stay for undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as minors. McCarthy opposed efforts to codify the DACA protection because he thought it would depress turnout among the Republican base in the upcoming 2018 midterms elections. According to Politico, it was thought a DACA-type bill could have also undermined McCarthy's chances of becoming House Speaker after Paul Ryan retired from Congress, as it would have made it harder for McCarthy to attract the support of hard-line conservatives.
10. In July 2018, House Democrats called for a floor vote that sought to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). House GOP leaders scrapped the latter and called for the House to vote on a resolution authored by McCarthy and Clay Higgins to support ICE. House Speaker Paul Ryan's spokeswoman said Democrats "will now have the chance to stand with the majority of Americans who support ICE and vote for this resolution", or otherwise follow "extreme voices on the far left calling for abolishment of an agency that protects us."
11. In June 2019, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, compared the holding centers for undocumented immigrants at the Mexico–United States border to "concentration camps". McCarthy strongly criticized her words, saying they showed disrespect for Holocaust victims.
12. McCarthy was a supporter of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which barred federal recognition of same-sex marriage and banned same-sex couples from receiving federal spousal benefits; after President Barack Obama instructed the Justice Department not to defend the law in court, McCarthy supported House Republicans' legal defense of the law. When the DOMA case reached the Supreme Court in 2013, McCarthy joined Boehner and Eric Cantor in signing a brief urging the Court to uphold the law.
13. McCarthy has a "D-" rating from NORML regarding his voting record on cannabis-related matters. He voted against allowing veterans' access to medical marijuana, if legal in their state, per their Veterans Health Administration doctor's recommendation.
14. McCarthy introduced the FORWARD Act in 2018, which "would provide $95 million in research funding for valley fever and other fungal diseases". The bill provides $5 million for a "blockchain pilot program", facilitating sharing data between doctors and scientists researching such diseases. It would also fund $8 million in matching grant money to be awarded every year for five years to local groups applying for research grants, as well as $10 million each year for five years to CARB-X, a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services public-private partnership.
15. On October 23, 2018, McCarthy tweeted that Democratic donors businessman George Soros, businessman Tom Steyer and former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, were trying to “buy” the upcoming election.
16. Steyer said McCarthy's tweet was a "straight-up antisemitic move" because the three Democrats are Jewish.
17. McCarthy claims that social media platforms, such as Twitter, are actively censoring conservative politicians and their supporters. He called on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to testify before Congress on the matter.
18. McCarthy also suggested that Google was biased against Republicans due to some of its short-lived vandalism of the English Wikipedia entry on the California Republican Party that was automatically indexed in the search results.

"Shannon Beador has officially won her case against Jim Bellino, who sued both her and former Real Housewives of Orange County star Tamra Judge for defamation in 2018.
In addition to having Bellino's case dismissed, Beador was awarded $137,340.25 of the $220,000 she sought for her legal fees.
"I am grateful and relieved because this has taken an emotional and financial toll on my family," Beador, 56, tells PEOPLE.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Bellino's lawyer said that though Beador's case has been closed, the case against Judge is still moving ahead.
"We are disappointed with the court of appeal’s ruling as it pertains to Ms. Beador, but nevertheless pleased that the court at the same time ruled that Mr. Bellino’s defamation case against Ms. Beador’s co-defendant, Tamra Judge, should go forward," the statement said.
Bellino, the ex-husband of former RHOC cast member Alexis Bellino, initially sued Beador and Judge, 53, for supposed negative comments they made about him and his former trampoline park business during a taping of Heather McDonald's Juicy Scoop podcast, which he claimed cost him over $1 million in potential business.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Judge discussed the Bellinos' divorce at the 2018 podcast taping, saying, "I have a theory. Everything, everything's in her name. He's going to go to jail. Yeah, he's a shady motherf---er."
McDonald then asked, "Do they still have the trampoline parks? Does anyone know?" to which Beador said, "No. No. I heard that they don't … I heard they don't because they were sued."
"I won't let my kids go because people get paralyzed… apparently that happens," she added.
The claim was made "in front of 300 people" in the crowd, Bellino later wrote on his website. After publishing it, MacDonald eventually cut the audio out of her podcast for listeners.
In January 2019, a judge dismissed Bellino's suit against Beador and ordered him to pay her for her legal fees, but Bellino later appealed that decision.
Now, his appeal has also been dismissed on the grounds that Beador's statements are considered "protected speech" and that Bellino did not submit sufficient evidence of damages.
"The court explained the statements did not 'clearly convey a meaning' which 'tends to directly injure,'" the documents state. "The court also stated Plaintiffs failed to submit 'competent evidence of special damages.'"
The fate of Bellino's case against Judge is not clear, though she opened up about the legal battle during an episode of RHOC in December 2019.
At the time, Judge asked castmate Gina Kirschenheiter, "Do you know what I'm going through? Do you know? Is somebody taking over $300,000 from your f---ing bank account? Is somebody taking that from you?"
Adding to Judge's frustration was the fact that costar Kelly Dodd had been contacting Bellino, offering to be subpoenaed as a character witness in his case. Dodd later apologized to Judge, confessing that she was just trying to hurt her. And while Judge accepted the apology, she was still at her wits end.
"Kelly can f--- off. I could have put all my kids through college with the amount of money I paid for that lawsuit," Judge said. "She knew that it was so devastating, but she still reached out and said, 'Hey, let me help you.' F--- her!"
"Kelly keeps saying that she intended to hurt Tamra. But what Kelly needs to continually understand is that hurting Tamra also hurt Shannon," Beador added. "We both are in a lawsuit. We both have suffered so much financially. So immerse yourself in it. Does it make you feel good?"
"She crossed a line that I don't think that I get past because she knows and is aware of the hours that we cried," Beador continued. "Tamra's anger is completely justified. There is one person out of line here and that is Kelly Dodd. The nuke that she threw went too far."
"Gina Kirschenheiter and boyfriend Travis Mullen may have recently celebrated their one-year anniversary of dating back in August and are a blended family living together in the OC, but that doesn't mean that The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member is ready to rush down the aisle to marry her boyfriend.
"We don't talk [about that]," she said in a recent phone interview with The Daily Dish. "Honestly, I'm just really happy."
Not that she would be against taking that step — it just isn't a top priority, it would seem. "If I get married, that’s great. But like if we never get married, I'm fine with that, you know?" she said. "To me, I think I just look at marriage in general differently. And I think it’s much more important to have a happy, highly functioning, solid relationship, rather than, you know. A certificate or whatever."
While marriage isn't a top priority for Gina, one thing is for sure when it comes to her relationship with Travis: he has her back when it comes to helping her with any issues she might be having... including tech help. And you can bet that Gina appreciated his skills with technology.
"Thank u for the continual tech help and emotional support!" she recently wrote. "You’re the best babe. I so appreciate you."
Speaking of the last 12 or so months together, Gina recently reflected, "It’s been an amazing year with an amazing man! 2020 may go down as one of the worst years for many but not for me. [Travis] I love you babe and I love our life together. Still head over heels."
“Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Heather Gay isn’t sure there is such a thing as too much Botox.
“It depends on your priorities,” the soon-to-be reality star told Page Six. “If speaking is important to you, then you can get too much Botox. If moving your lips and forehead in any way is important, then yeah, you can get too much Botox. If you just want to stand there and look beautiful, there’s never enough.”
Gay added that she gets Botox “every three to four months,” gets her lips done once a year and also gets a “painful facial” twice a year.
Gay, who has joined the newest Bravo “Housewife” franchise premiering on Nov. 11, runs a spa Beauty Lab in the Utah capital and is a divorced mother with three daughters.
“I didn’t know how to function,” she said of her painful divorce. “I’m still having a very, very difficult time. I didn’t know anyone that was Mormon and divorced and single and happy.”
She added, “I either had to get remarried or redefine my entire life. I had three little kids and I didn’t know how to do it and nobody gave me any guidance.”
Gay is also well-aware that starring on a Bravo series that often features alcohol — a big no-no in the Mormon Church — and raunchy nights out will probably result in ex-communication.
“I want to get to the point where I won’t care. Cerebrally I don’t care, but emotionally yeah, it will be upsetting,” she told us, adding that her family isn’t happy about her being on the show.
“Right now they just see it as me falling into all the trappings of the world,” she explained. “Celebrity and money and crash television and not being a righteous devout mother.”
Gay is hoping that starring in the franchise will bring some eligible men into the picture and she’s really eager to win over gay men.
“Oh my gosh, I’ve been praying my whole life to become a gay icon,” she squealed. “If the gays will take me I will carry the badge of honor.”
Gay will be appearing virtually at the Vulture Festival on Friday at 7 p.m. ET."
"Gizelle Bryant and Dr. Wendy Osefo from “The Real Housewives of Potomac” want you to vote.
In “Race in America: Our Vote Counts” on Bravo, the reality stars discussed the importance of voting in the black community.
Bryant, who worked with the NAACP before becoming a “Housewife,” told Page Six that as a child, she witnessed her father experience voter suppression.
“Unless we stand up and force our voices to be heard, they won’t be,” she stressed. “We’ve all seen, especially this summer, that black and brown people are just basically not even thought of. And our lives have seemed to not matter in the past. And it’s just it’s more and more prevalent as the days go by. So it’s always very important to vote.”
Bryant, 50, added that she is teaching her daughters, 14-year-old twins Angel and Adore, and 15-year-old Grace, about politics now so they “don’t grow up just ignorant to what’s really happening in this world.”
“I want them to have an opinion,” she said. “They will be out of this house and off to college and I want them to really be confident in how they feel about politics and policy and knowing that if you’re a black girl growing up in this country, the same rules don’t apply to you. So you’ve got to make sure you know how to work around it. Work hard to get whatever dream that you want.”
She explained, “I’m just always very real with my kids because they can take it. Kids are resilient. They get it. I don’t ever want to sugarcoat anything because it’s not necessary. I don’t ever want them to be confused. Like it is what it is. So as a mom, again, if I don’t have these conversations, I’m setting my kids up for failure.”
Meanwhile, Osefo, 36, told us that she is turning casting her ballot into a date night with her husband, Edward. While their three children, Karter, 7, Kruz, 5, and Kamrynn, 1, are too young to vote with them, they are staged a mock election at home.
“My children are very civically engaged in their own right because they know about voting. They know about protesting. They know about being advocates. We actually have an Election Day countdown ticker in my house that says how many days until the election and my kids actually participated in their own election. We made them fake ballots because we talk so much about the election. We wanted them to feel like they were a part.”
The political commentator hopes that her “Wine with Wendy” event on a recent episode of “RHOP” (although it was filmed about a year ago) and the upcoming Bravo special encourages fans to become engaged and get to the polls.
“I come from a family where our mantra is ‘to whom much is given, much is required’ and so I don’t take my platform for granted,” she said.
Dr. Britten Cole from “Married to Medicine Los Angeles,” Zuri Hall from “Access Hollywood,” Dr. Heavenly Kimes from “Married to Medicine Atlanta,” Dr. Damon Kimes from “Married to Medicine Atlanta,” Tamica Lee from “Southern Charm New Orleans,” Jon Moody from “Southern Charm New Orleans,” Barry Smith from “Southern Charm New Orleans” and Justin Sylvester from “E! News” also participated in the conversation.
“Race in America: Our Vote Counts” airs on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET and is produced by Lauren Grace Media with Leslie D. Farrell and Dorothy Toran serving as executive producers. Kandi Burrus is also an Executive Producer."
"43 years after Kyle Richards appeared in "Halloween" as little Lindsey Wallace, she'll be once again on the run from Michael Myers when "Halloween Kills" hits theaters in 2021.
While the movie was initially supposed to be released earlier this month, it was moved to next Halloween amid the pandemic. During Blumhouse's BlumFest earlier this week, however, the filmmakers dropped some new footage from the film -- which showed the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star in peril.
During an interview ahead of the release of Blumhouse's "Freaky," TooFab asked producer Jason Blum what it was like having Richards back on set so many years later.
"It was great," said Blum, who noted that while he didn't visit the set himself, he checked in with director David Gordon Green regularly during production and had Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek on hand for the shoot.
"Our executive Ryan Turek was there every day and Ryan said it was pretty amazing," said Blum. "Very emotional."
Any attempt to get any other info about the movie out of Blum, however, proved fruitless. After star Jamie Lee Curtis teased the "mob" mentality of the movie in an interview with The Jess Cagle Show, we asked whether he could elaborate on that any further.
"If I talk about that in any way that will make you happy, Michael Myers will cut my legs off," he replied with a laugh, "so I can't do that. I'm very sorry."
Curtis was a little more forthcoming in her interview.
"[Halloween] 2018 was about Laurie's trauma, it was focused on Laurie Strode, but there were a lot of other people that had the result of Michael Myers in 1978 and we brought back all of those people," said Curtis. "So Kyle Richards, who played a little girl Lindsey, came back. We have the character of Tommy. We have other characters, Marion, the nurse."
"The 'Halloween Kills' movie is about a mob. What we were seeing around the country of the power, of the rage of voices, big groups of people coming together enraged at the set of circumstances, that's what the movie is. The movie is about a mob," she continued. "And so it's very interesting because it takes on what happens when trauma infects an entire community."
"It's a seething group of people moving through the story as a big angry group," she added. "It's really, really, really intense. It's a masterpiece."
"Halloween Kills" is due out 15, 2021, followed by "Halloween Ends" in 2022. "Freaky" hits theaters Friday the 13th of November -- and tickets are available now."
Brandi Redmond is sharing an update on how her 9-year-old daughter, Brinkley, is doing, nearly three weeks after surviving a serious car accident that took the life of Brandi’s mother-in-law, Jill Marie Redmond.
On October 30, Brandi took to Instagram to reveal that Brinkley is still on the mend after the tragic crash, also thanking her followers for their prayers and well wishes. The Real Housewives of Dallas cast member shared a touching photo of her late mother-in-law holding Brinkley as a toddler. “Thank you all for asking about sweet Brinkley as she is healing mentally and physically,” she wrote in the caption of the picture.
Brandi also went on to reveal that she’s honoring the memory of her mother-in-law by advocating for increased safety measures at the site of the accident.
“I love this photo of [Brinkley] as a baby with my mother in law. I’m asking for your help to sign a petition for safety at the intersection where my mil’s life was tragically taken from us,” she wrote. “Again, Lord thank you, thank you for Brinkley’s life. There will never be a day I don’t thank you for my precious baby girl. “

2020.10.29 22:06 cjmmoseley i wrote a letter! :D

if trump wins 2020, this is the letter im sending to congress, SCOTUS, the senate, and HOR. constructive criticism wanted! :D
To whomever this may concern,
My name is CJ Marie Johnson, and I am a sophomore at REDACTED in Nashville, Tennessee. I am writing regarding the 2020 election and the President of the United States of America. I would claim that, at least for my age, I am quite informed politically. One of my biggest passions is politics, along with music and songwriting, and I make it known. I’m not one to back down when someone challenges my beliefs, and I take time to inform myself as to have stronger arguments. All that to say, when I see clear injustice and abuse in the American government, I feel a duty as a citizen to speak up and do what I can to fix it. I find my inability to vote as a reason to work even harder to make the youth voices of America heard, so I joined the Mayor’s Youth Council in my city. Now, I am aware of my place and point of view. I am fifteen years old, therefore; I don’t vote, don’t pay bills or as much in taxes (though I have a job, and accordingly pay taxes), and don’t own property. This does not make my opinion invalid. Experiences I don’t share with people (extending to experiences I will never share, such as minorities, as I am white-passing) are reasons to further educate myself and fight with the movement, not against it. One is never in a place to voice another’s experience invalid when it is not shared or witnessed. With that stated, I believe that Donald Trump is the greatest threat to America. Trump has left the country worse than he found it, causing some of the greatest division America had ever seen, killing (at the time of writing this) 225,000 citizens, and running this country into the same high ground he stands on.
The gaslighting that Trump has used before and in office is inexcusable and undeniable. A president should never blatantly lie so obviously and often to the American people, pretending that they know better than leading experts. Trump refused to acknowledge the worsening global climate change, saying that because there is snow, global warming is a hoax (New York Post, 2010). He then goes on to say that the US has the lowest carbon emissions, the clearest waters, and the cleanest air (2020 2nd Presidential Debate) in the world. With one quick Google search, the audience can see that the US holds 2nd place in the highest carbon emissions in the world, 29th in cleanest water quality, and 10th in cleanest air (2018). He then smeared Biden’s climate change plan by using false numbers (claimed it would be 100 trillion when Biden proposed 2 trillion), accused Biden of opposing fracking (which Biden had never said), and refused to discuss environmental racism. This isn’t the first time America has been a witness to this manipulative behavior. Trump’s gaslighting has also been one of his defenses to people calling out his blatant racism. Calling criticism of America’s racist roots (slavery, systematic capitalist racism, and mass incarceration, to name a few) “racist” is horrific behavior of a world leader. Patriotic education and erasing racial sensitivity training is the same rhetoric of a child’s game- if you close your eyes, it isn’t there. The best way to deal with racism and writing a new narrative is to acknowledge the past and learn from it. Close the racial economic gap by taxing the wealthy, Wall Street, and big corporations higher and issuing a Universal Basic Income. Some, particularly on the right, argue that these measures would raise taxes, however, taxes never have and never will be more important than human rights and decency of government.
Trump has done the most damage to the ideals and central values of America out of any threat in the modern age. His entire character and behavior are against everything this country has ever fought for. What other president has caused such great division, so much that people, including myself, refuse to stand for the flag, say the Pledge of Allegiance, or sing the national anthem? What other president has so blatantly stripped people of their rights, denounced entire social justice movements, and fought the very idea of the first amendment? The right to peaceful protest built this country from the ground up, from the suffrage movement to the civil rights marches, and that same right President Donald Trump denied. There are countless other human rights violations violated by the Trump administration, with the proposal of Title XII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 denied to LGBTQ+ workers, violating rights of LGBTQ+ persons, and undermines rights to equal protection before the law (August 23, 2019). The USCIS reported that immigrants applying for humanitarian visas could be deported more easily if their applications were denied and they do not have a legal status, which places women under the Violence against Women Act and victims of crime at risk. This violates women’s rights, the right to asylum in other countries from persecution, the right to liberty and personal security, and human rights (November 17, 2018). Other rights the administration has violated include the right to health (allowing employers to deny birth control coverage, also violates women’s rights, November 2018), and children’s rights (government officials forcibly administering psychotropic drugs to children at Texas migrant facility, and also the Flores vs. Sessions case, also violates right to health, right to adequate living standard, and right to liberty and personal security, July 2018) among many, many others. It’s impossible to blame those who refuse to stand for the flag when the flag doesn’t stand for them.
Failing to impeach Donald Trump was one of the biggest failures of the American justice system, but as the public has seen over the last year, the American justice system doesn’t truly center on justice. With the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Walter Wallace, Jonathan Price, Dijon Kizzee, Damian Daniels, Anthony McClain, Julian Lewis, Maurice Abisdid-Wagner, Robert Forbes, Kamal Flowers, Jamel Floyd, James Scurlock, Calvin Horton Jr., Tony McDade, Dion Johnson, Maurice Gordon, Steven Taylor, Daniel Prude, Barry Gedeus, Priscilla Slater, Rayshard Brooks, David McAtee, Cornelius Fredricks, Manuel Ellis, Lionel Morris, Jaquyn O’Neill Light, William Green, Darius Tarver, Miciah Lee, and Ahmaud Arbery (that is only from the beginning of 2020 until October 25, 2020) it has only made one thing clear: Black lives are not protected by the United States government. Breonna Taylor was sleeping in her home. Cornelius Fredericks threw a sandwich. Jonathan Price was breaking up a fight. These murderers had no justified excuses for murdering innocent people based on the color of their skin. And yet Donald Trump, the leader of the country, refuses to say it. Black lives matter. Joe Biden could. Andrew Yang could. Hillary Clinton could. Yet Donald Trump swims in a sea of his racist statements, such as “You know, you don’t want to live with them either” (when faced with charges of discrimination, for turning away applications to live in his apartments from people of color- 1973), “You also had people that are very fine people, on both sides” (about the Neo-nazis in Charlottesville, NC), banning Muslims from entering the country, and falsely accusing Obama of not being born in America. The police of the United States is a corrupt, racist system, and it is a sad reflection on society that the president refuses to condemn them. Presidents should represent everyone- not just wealthy, white, heterosexual, cisgender men. Giving way to his intolerant ideas, regardless of the historically celebrated diversity in America, Trump was a trailblazer for white supremacist groups, Bible-waving “Christian” extremists, and terrorist organizations to riot against the movement. Opposing the BLM movement is opposing equality, human rights, and progressive society. America has never more needed change in the law enforcement department and denying that is ignorant or misinformed. The counter-arguments facing the movement are simply generalizing and using the same argument as the racists using them- “Because some protests are riots, all protests are riots”. The poorly formed fallacies have infected the news, government, and conservative onlookers with a cloudy view of what is truly happening- injustice. Of course, people are angry, of course, some protests become violent. What conservative officials cannot see is the peaceful protests turning aggressive when police escalate the situation. On Vine Street in Philadelphia (the birthplace of the First Amendment), police cornered a march (peaceful protest) on the side of a highway and tear-gassed the demonstrators. In Los Angeles, a highway patrol car drove into a crowd of protestors and knocked a man unconscious. Police shot and killed David McAtee for being out past curfew in Louisville, Kentucky. All across the country, police are using military force on unarmed civilians, a violation of our First Amendment. What part of this is acceptable? The curfew itself is in place to silence the protests, not to address COVID-19. It’s not to encourage staying at home. Why were they only in effect after the protests started? What science suggests that the virus gets worse at night? The baseless lies speak for themselves in this situation. Our violence is a response to the government’s silencing.
The BLM movement isn’t the only movement that Trump has disrespected and denounced, as he also directly opposed the MeToo movement, which supports women coming forward and holding men accountable for sexual assault and harassment. Trump has made it quite clear that he does not support the MeToo, stating, “It is a very scary time for young men in America, where you can be guilty of something you may not be guilty of”. This seems to be quite ironic to Trump himself, who has 43 sexual assault allegations against him (October 2019), and is reported to have been on Epstein’s private island before, even once stating “It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side (2002)”. While denying every one, he was recorded in 2005 on a bus tape, stating, “I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything ... grab them by the pu**y. You can do anything.” (speaking of women letting Trump assault them). These aren’t his only sexist statements, as he has said “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?”(April 2015), “if she weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” (about his daughter, Ivanka- June 2004), “26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military — only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men and women together?” (May 2013), “That must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees.” (to a contestant on the Apprentice- 2013), and called women slurs such as b*mbo, horse face, and just over sexualizing women frequently. He performed actions in his presidency that only further reinforced that. Despite what he says, Trump has no respect for women besides what they can do for him.
Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote that all the most praised presidents share central personal qualities such as resilience, empathy, humility, and willingness to acknowledge error. A president represents the American people and should be generally viewed as a model for all citizens, if not people. World leaders are literal influencers and decision-makers for millions of lives, and as a new light as shown in 2020, change our lives more than one would like to admit. However, Donald Trump not just possesses none of the qualities, but has the opposite. Donald Trump is corrupt, selfish, narcissistic, and arrogant, just to name a few. He is above the law to the American justice system, escaping the abuse of power charges, obstruction of Congress, tax evasion, and near 50 sexual assault allegations without true investigations. Here is what I ask- impeach Donald Trump for persecuting political opponents (calling on Russian hackers, the FBI, and the DOJ to investigate Hillary Clinton, 2016, asking foreign intelligence agencies to investigate Robert Mueller, and the Ukrainian government to investigate Biden, 2019), attacking the free press (calling critical coverage fake news, journalists “the enemy of the American people’’, made threats to change libel laws and revoke journalism licenses, tried to interfere with AT&T and Time Warner merger), and endangerment of the American people (spreading misinformation about the virus, White House Rose Garden super-spreader event). He has also profited off of the presidency with his businesses, solicited foreign interference in US elections, advocated political and police violence, and repeatedly abused his power. These are all impeachable offenses. There is more than enough evidence to convict him of these crimes, and I pray that we would not fail again. Even in Trump’s impeachment trial earlier this year, not one person denied that Trump was guilty. The people defending him argued that it wasn’t a crime. The justice system claims to live by the model of “innocent until proven guilty”, however, that was not what the defense argued. The defense argued the crime, not the innocence. The justice system should not change on a whim to defend a criminal, especially because they’re a political figure who supports their belief, and Trump gives them power. One should not have the selfishness of power to motivate their actions, but out of the goodness of their heart and desire to make the world a better place for others. When we don’t see the change it needs, we must bring it ourselves. For now, I write. If I don’t see change, I will walk. However, if that follows the same pattern that we have seen throughout the present, I will scream. I will shout. And I will bring this country the change that it needs, even if I need to burn for it, fight for it, or die for it. Because there are others. 31% of America is left, as compared to 25% being right (May 2020). This “silent majority” that the right gaslights the public about doesn’t exist. So to believe that our rights, human rights, are being stripped away from under our noses is unacceptable. Donald Trump does not accept America as it is, and I hope that America will not stoop so low as to accept him.

2020.10.28 07:04 RubyWoomy the entire wikipedia article for rick rolling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to navigationJump to search"Rick Roll" redirects here. It is not to be confused with Richard Roll.📷A still frame from the music video of the song "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley on YouTube, taken in 2008.
Rickrolling, alternatively rick-rolling, is a prank and an Internet meme involving an unexpected appearance of the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a type of bait and switch using a disguised hyperlink that leads to the music video. When victims click on a seemingly unrelated link, the site with the music video loads instead of what was expected, and in doing so they are said to have been "rickrolled". The meme has also extended to using the song's lyrics in unexpected places.
The meme grew out from a similar bait-and-switch trick called "duckrolling" that was popular on the 4chan website in 2006. The video bait-and-switch trick grew popular on 4chan by the 2007 April Fools' Day, and spread to other Internet sites later that year. The meme gained mainstream attention in 2008 through several publicized events, particularly when YouTube used it on its 2008 April Fools' Day event.
Initially, Astley, who had only recently returned to performing after a ten-year hiatus, was hesitant about using his newfound popularity from the meme to further his career, but accepted the fame when he rickrolled the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with a surprise performance of the song. Since then, Astley has seen his performance career revitalized by the meme's popularity.

"Never Gonna Give You Up" appeared on Astley's 1987 debut album Whenever You Need Somebody.[1] The song, his solo debut single, was a number-one hit on several international charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, and the UK Singles Chart. The accompanying music video, Astley's first, features him performing the song while dancing.[2] It since had become a popular song on the Internet, particularly after it was featured in the 2005 "Charlie Has Cancer" episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The use of the song for rickrolling dates to 2006, originating from the 4chan imageboard from an early meme known as "duckrolling". Sometime in 2006, the site moderator, Christopher "m00t" Poole implemented a word filter replacing the word "egg" with "duck" as a gag. On one thread, where "eggroll" had become "duckroll", an anonymous user posted an edited image of a duck with wheels, calling it a "duckroll". The image caught on across 4chan; the image would be the target of a hyperlink with an otherwise interesting title, with a user clicking through having been said to be "duckrolled".[3]
In March 2007, the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV was released onto Rockstar Games website. Viewership was so high that it crashed Rockstar's site. Several users helped to post mirrors of the video on different sites, but one user on 4chan had linked to the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video claiming to be the trailer, tricking numerous readers into the bait-and-switch. This practice quickly replaced duckrolling for other alluring links, all generally pointing to Astley's video, and thus creating the practice of "rickrolling".[3] The bait-and-switch to the "Never Gonna Give You Up" greatly expanded on 4chan on April Fools' Day in 2007, and led to the trick expanding to other sites like Fark and Digg later that year, quickly gaining the name "rickrolling" based on the prior "duckrolling".[3]
An initial use of "rickrolling" was confirmed by the editors of Know Your Meme, where rural Michigan resident Erik Helwig had called into a local radio sports-talk show in 2006 and instead of conversing with the DJs, simply played "Never Gonna Give You Up", leaving the DJs speechless. While this occurred before the 4chan use, Know Your Meme editor-in-chief Don Caldwell said there was no direct confirmation if it had inspired the 4chan use of the video.[4]

Growth in 2008

📷A Rick Astley impersonator during one of the March 2008 rickrolls at a collegiate basketball game
Rickrolling started to appear in more mainstream sources during 2008, with a SurveyUSA April 2008 poll estimating that at least 18 million American adults had been rickrolled.[5]
One of the first public events involved the Church of Scientology which had been aggressively trying to censor videos critical of the church. The Internet group Anonymous) as part of their Project Chanology to challenge this censoring, protested at the Church's various headquarters across the globe by chanting the song, among other activities.[6] A number of collegiate basketball games in March 2008 had people dressing up as Astley from the video and lip-syncing to the music as a prank before the start of the game.[7] YouTube's 2008 April Fools joke made featured video hyperlinks on the site's home page end up on the music video.[8][9] In April 2008, the New York Mets baseball team asked fans on the internet what song they should use for their eighth-inning rally song. "Never Gonna Give You Up" received a massive number of votes, driven by websites like 4chan.[10][9] At the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, an online campaign led to Astley being named the "Best Act Ever" despite not being on the original shortlist of nominees, effectively rickrolling the awards.[11]
📷Astley performing the song during the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
By November 2008, the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video on YouTube had more than 20 million views and was considered a viral video, however Astley initially appeared indifferent to the newfound fame.[11] When Astley was asked about the trend of rickrolling during an interview in March 2008, he stated, "it's weird," since he had not performed much lately, but he found the interest funny.[12] However, at the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Astley made a surprise appearance on a float) for Cartoon Network to lip-sync the song to the crowd and television audiences, making that performance the largest rickroll to date.[13] According to Astley, Cartoon Network had urged him to perform for the parade along with a large performance payment, and although he had been wary of trying to promote himself using the popularity of the meme, decided to go for it.[14]

Ongoing usage

In September 2009, Wired) magazine published a guide to modern hoaxes which listed rickrolling as one of the better known beginner-level hoaxes, alongside the fake e-mail chain letter.[15] The term has been extended to simple hidden use of the song's lyrics.[16] Cover versions of "Never Gonna Give You Up" have also been used as part of rickrolling; in April 2018, the creators of TV's Westworld) released a video that purported to be a spoiler guide for the entire second season in advance, but instead featured lead actress Evan Rachel Wood singing the song while accompanied by another main actress, Angela Sarafyan, playing the piano.[17]
The most popular upload of the music video[18] on YouTube from 2007 used for rickrolling, titled "RickRoll'D", was removed for terms-of-use violations in February 2010[19] but the takedown was revoked within a day.[20] It was taken down again on 18 July 2014.[21] It has since been unblocked again and has gained over 81 million views as of February 2020.[18] The Official Rick Astley channel uploaded another version[22] on 24 October 2009, which has over 760 million views as of September 2020.[23]
Its meme status led to the song's usage in the post-credits scene for Walt Disney Animation Studios's 2018 film Ralph Breaks the Internet, the sequel to 2012's Wreck-It Ralph. The song also appears in the film Bumblebee), and was featured at the end of its initial teaser trailer.[24]
On 5 January 2018, Paul Fenwick announced that he had started several Rick Astley hotlines, which when called, would play "Never Gonna Give You Up" along with several other artist's adaptations of it. Paul Fenwick advertised it as "You are encouraged to use them for paperwork, loyalty schemes, and general joy."[25]
By 2019, the popularity of rickrolling had diminished, however on 25 August, a notable large-scale occurrence happened at Petco Park in San Diego during a Major League Baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres—the first game that the Red Sox played at Petco Park in six years. During a mid-inning break, the Padres' scoreboard began to play "Sweet Caroline"—a tradition at Red Sox home games in Fenway Park—but the Red Sox were the opposition in San Diego. As the Neil Diamond song was about to reach the chorus, however, the video-board suddenly switched to "Never Gonna Give You Up", much to the amusement of the crowd.[26]
On 13 October 2019, the Sunday night NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers at Dignity Health Sports Park featured a case of rickrolling when the PA announcers, after a Chargers touchdown brought the score to 24-10 Pittsburgh, decided to troll the partisan crowd by playing the beginning of the Styx) song "Renegade)" (which had been played at the Steelers home Heinz Field since 2001) only to transition into "Never Gonna Give You Up". The stunt caught fans and players from both teams by surprise (even being acknowledged by the Steelers official social media accounts), and some Chargers players were not happy about the Steelers anthem being played in their own home stadium. The Steelers won the game 24–17.[27][28]

📷Astley performing in 2017
In an interview in March 2008, Astley said that he found the rickrolling of Scientology to be "hilarious"; he also said that he will not try to capitalise on the rickroll phenomenon with a new recording or remix of his own, but that he would be happy to have other artists remix it. Overall, Astley is not troubled by the phenomenon, stating that he finds it "bizarre and funny" and that his only concern is that his "daughter doesn't get embarrassed about it."[29] A spokesperson for Astley's record label released a comment which showed that Astley's interest with the phenomenon had faded, as they stated, "I'm sorry, but he's done talking about Rickrolling".[3]
In November 2008, Astley was nominated for "Best Act Ever" at the MTV Europe Music Awards after the online nomination form was flooded with votes.[30] The push to make Astley the winner of the award, as well as efforts to encourage MTV to personally invite Astley to the awards ceremony, continued after the announcement.[31] On 10 October, Astley's website confirmed that an invitation to the awards had been received. On 6 November 2008, just hours before the ceremony was due to air, it was reported that MTV Europe did not want to give Astley the award at the ceremony, instead wanting to present it at a later date. Many fans who voted for Astley felt the awards ceremony failed to acknowledge him as a legitimate artist. Astley stated in an interview that he felt the award was "daft", but noted that he thought that "MTV were thoroughly rickrolled", and went on to thank everyone who voted for him.[32]
In 2009, Astley wrote about 4chan founder moot for Time) magazine's annual Time 100 issue, and thanked moot for the rickrolling phenomenon.[33]
According to The Register, as of 2010, Astley had only directly received $12 in performance royalties from YouTube. Although by that time the song had been played 39 million times, Astley did not compose the song and received only a performer's share of the sound recording copyright.[34] However, Astley denied those reports in 2016.[35]

Gun Background Checks: How the State Came To Decide Who Can and Cannot Buy a Firearm
Prior to 1968, most adults in the United States could purchase a firearm without state interference. Guns were available in local retail stores, as well as mail-order catalogs, and as long as you hadn’t been convicted of a felony and you had the funds, there weren’t any questions asked.
Things are different now. Depending on where in America you are and what type of gun you want to buy, there’s a good chance you’ll need to pass a NICS-mandated background check to complete your purchase.
Although many people hold a strong opinion for and against gun background checks, they’ve proven to be an integral part of the state's gun control apparatus – and they don’t appear to be leaving anytime soon.
Since background checks are such a requirement for today’s gun enthusiasts, it’s important for gun owners (and those who may someday be gun owners) to understand everything they can, including how the current system works and how it came to be.

The History of Gun Background Checks in the U.S.

The history of background checks for gun purchases reaches back to the first restrictions placed on individuals trying to purchase firearms. Here in the U.S., this occured after the Civil War, when several southern states adopted “Black Codes,” which replaced the prior slave codes and worked to suppress the freedoms of black Americans. Among other restrictions, the Black Codes forbade African-Americans from owning firearms.
The Federal Firearms Act of 1938 began restricting the sales of firearms, requiring those in the business of selling firearms to purchase a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and maintain a list of persons who purchased firearms, including their name and address. The Firearms Act of 1938 also listed convicted felons as the first prohibited persons – who are not allowed, by law, to own, purchase, or possess firearms.
And then something happened that would forever change American history. Six days before Thanksgiving, on November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas using a Mannlicher-Carcano rifle that was chambered in 6.5x52mm Carcano and fitted with a telescopic sight, which he'd purchased from a mail-order catalog.
The 1963 Kennedy assassination was followed by additional high-profile assassinations over the next 5 years:
February 21st, 1965: Malcolm X was assassinated by three members of the Nation of Islam who bull-rushed him on-stage during a speech in Harlem with a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and handguns chambered in .45 ACP and 9mm. X had publicly broken away from the Nation of Islam and was openly critical of its leader, Elijah Muhammad.
April 4th, 1968: Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated by escaped convict James Earl Ray using a .30-06 caliber rifle in Memphis. The prior year Ray had broken out of the Missouri State Penitentiary by hiding in a bread delivery truck. Ray was a notorious escape artist and career criminal who used an alias when purchasing the rifle.
(After the assassination, investigators launched a sixty-five day manhunt for King’s assassin that led them across two continents and four countries which culminated in Ray's arrest at London's Heathrow airport where he was caught traveling on a forged Canadian passport. A decade later in 1979, Ray again broke out of jail - this time escaping from Tennessee’s most notorious maximum security prison, Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, where he was serving a life sentence for King's assassination.)
June 5th, 1968: Two months after King's assassination in Memphis, Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy (JFK's younger brother) was assassinated by Palestinian-born Sirhan Bishara Sirhan in Los Angeles using a revolver chambered in .22. Earlier that day, Kennedy had won the South Dakota and California presidential primaries. Sirhan claimed to be part of an occult organization called the Rosicrucians.
The cumulative effect of these assassinations - along with the emergence of the Black Panthers, who'd started hanging out at government buildings armed to the teeth - led to the Gun Control Act of 1968, which was specifically intended to keep “firearms out of the hands of those not legally entitled to possess them because of age, criminal background, or incompetence.”
Through the Gun Control Act of 1968, the federal government placed restrictions on the sale of firearms across state lines and expanded the prohibited persons who were not allowed to purchase or possess firearms. Under the new law, gun purchases became illegal for those who were:
  • Convicted of a non-business-related felony
  • Found to be mentally incompetent
  • Users of illegal substances
To determine this information, those who wished to purchase a firearm from an FFL had to complete a questionnaire of yes/no questions such as “Are you a convicted felon?” and “Are you a fugitive from justice?” Although these questions needed to be answered, they did not require verification from the gun seller.
In 1972, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was formed as a way to help control the illegal sales and use of firearms.
In March of 1981, the assassination attempt of President Ronald Reagan led to further gun legislation with the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, which amended the Gun Control Act of 1968 to now require background checks for the purchase of firearms from a retailer. The Brady Act, as it’s known today, also led to the development of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which launched in 1998, and is the current law on background checks for gun purchases in the U.S.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was mandated by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, and was launched by the FBI on November 30, 1998. The NICS is used by FFLs to check the eligibility of those who wish to purchase firearms.
Located at the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the NICS is currently used by 30 states and five districts, as well as the District of Columbia, to check the backgrounds of those who wish to purchase firearms. Those states that opt not to use the NICS have their own point of contact (POC) to complete background checks.
The NICS applies a person’s identifying characteristics, including name and date of birth, to its own index, as well as the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and the Interstate Identification Index. These systems compare the intended purchaser’s demographic information against the national databases to see if they match someone deemed a prohibited person. Prohibited persons include those who are or were:
  • Convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a year or more
  • Fugitives from justice
  • A user of or addicted to a controlled substance
  • Adjudicated as a mental defective or been committed to a mental health institution
  • Illegal aliens
  • Aliens admitted to the U.S. under a nonimmigrant visa
  • Discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions
  • Renounced their citizenship to the U.S.
  • Subject to a court order that restrains their interactions with an intimate partner or child
  • Convicted of domestic violence
Since its conception, NICS has completed over 300 million background checks and has issued more than 1.3 million denials. The NICS is available 17 hours a day, seven days a week, except for Christmas Day.

How Do Background Checks Work?

When you visit a gun store and attempt to purchase a firearm, you must complete a Firearm Transaction Record, or ATF Form 4473 – which requires the intended purchaser’s name, address, and birthdate. The form also requires a government-issued photo ID and asks questions regarding the individual’s appearance, including height and weight.
Once the form’s completed, the gun seller can either call the 1-800 number for NICS or use the online system to run the background check. In over 90 percent of the cases, the results are almost immediate, with the system either approving, delaying, or denying the purchase within minutes.
With an approval, the sale can immediately proceed as planned with you purchasing the firearm. If there is a delay, the NICS and FBI investigate the inquiry over the next three days. If the FFL does not hear anything within that time period or if a determination cannot be made, then the retailer can, but does not have to, continue with the firearm transfer. When this occurs, it’s often referred to as a “default proceed” sale.
When a denial is made, which occurs in only about 2 percent of background checks, the retailer is unable to sell or transfer the firearm to the individual in question. You must submit a request to the NICS to receive the reason for your denial, the most common of which is a history of a felony conviction.
If you believe you were given an erroneous denial, you can appeal the decision by completing a Voluntary Appeal File (VAF), which can be done online or by mailing your request to the FBI. Along with the VAF application, you will also need to be fingerprinted to move forward with the appeal process.

When is a Background Check Needed to Purchase a Gun?

A background check is necessary any time you purchase a gun from a retail provider, which is defined as someone conducting business in the sale of firearms. These sellers must have a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and are legally mandated to complete a background check for every firearm sold to a non-licensed individual.
It doesn’t matter if you purchase the firearm in a brick-and-mortar store, a gun show, online, or through a magazine – if the seller is a retailer provider (i.e. has an FFL), then the background check must occur.

When is a Background Check Not Needed to Purchase a Gun?

Under federal law, any adult can sell a personally owned firearm to another adult in the same state as long as you know, to the best of your ability, that they’re allowed to own a firearm.
Private sellers aren’t required to ask for identification, they don’t have to complete any forms, nor keep any records of the transaction. What’s more, federal law does not mandate a background check to purchase a firearm from a private seller. This includes buying a gun from a relative, a neighbor, or a friend.
Although federal law does not demand a background check for the private sale of firearms, some states do require a background check.
If you inherit or are gifted a firearm, you don’t need a background check.

Do Gun Background Checks Differ By State?

Thirty states, five districts, and D.C. all rely solely on the NICS for gun background checks. The following 13 states use their own full point of contact (POC) data system for gun background checks and do not use the FBI’s system:
Some states, namely Maryland, New Hampshire, Washington, and Wisconsin, use NICS for long guns, but a state program for background checks on handguns. Iowa, Nebraska, and North Carolina use NICS, but have a partial POC for background checks in relation to handgun permits.
Many of these states have added their own provisions to their background checks, on top of what federal law mandates. In most cases, they also include looking at state and local records to determine if the person in question should or should not be allowed to own a firearm.
Some states have implemented universal background checks via an FFL, even during a private gun sale. While Maryland and Pennsylvania require background checks for all handgun transfers, regardless of retail or private sale, the following states require a background check for all firearm transfers:
In addition, some states require permits to purchase firearms. Hawaii, Illinois, and Massachusetts require a permit for all gun purchases, while Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, and North Carolina require a permit for purchasing a handgun. These permits often require their own background check as well.
It should be noted that although these laws exist in Nebraska, they’re not currently being enforced, but are expected to be by January of 2020.

But Isn’t There a Gun Show Loophole?

There is no gun show loophole when it comes to background checks for gun purchases. The law clearly states that if you purchase a firearm from a person with an FFL, a background check must occur. If you purchase a gun from a private seller, you don’t need a background check. These same two principles apply whether you’re at a gun show or not.
So if you purchase a firearm from a gun seller with an FFL at a gun show, you will need to complete Form 4473 and have a background check. Under federal law, if you purchase a gun from a private seller at a gun show, you don’t need to have a background check. Your state laws may differ.
Of the average 4,000 gun shows in the U.S. each year, it’s estimated that 50 to 75 percent of vendors have an FFL, and therefore require purchasers of firearms to complete background checks. But that doesn’t mean that 25 to 50 percent of vendors are private sellers of firearms – many of these are vendors that sell gun paraphernalia. Gun shows are filled with vendors who sell everything from t-shirts and ball caps to holsters and concealed carry gear, and it’s these sellers that make up the majority of the remaining non-licensed vendors.
Are there private gun sellers at gun shows? Absolutely. But the idea that criminals are flocking to gun shows to illegally purchase firearms is untrue. In a report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, only 0.7 percent of convicted criminals purchased their firearms at gun shows.

Have Background Checks Stopped Gun Violence and Crimes?

The research on the effectiveness of background checks to stop gun violence shows conflicting evidence. In an October 2018 published study completed by U.S. Davis and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in the 10 years following California’s comprehensive background checks, the number of gun homicides and suicides were not impacted. In a similar study published in July of the same year, gun violence did not increase with the repeal of comprehensive background checks.
Yet other studies show that background checks do reduce violence. A 2015 study found that requiring Connecticut handgun owners to go through a background check led to a 40-percent decline in gun homicides and suicides over a 10-year period.
This contradicting research shows that the problem of criminals getting their hands on guns can’t be stopped by mere background checks. According to the Department of Justice Special Report on Firearm Violence, 77 percent of state prisoners associated with firearm crimes received their firearm through:
  • Theft
  • Black market
  • Drug dealer
  • On the street
  • Family or friends
Not one of these criminals would have been affected by background checks, universal or otherwise. After all, most criminals don’t feel obligated to use legal means to obtain their firearms since they've either broken laws previously or plan to do so.
Beyond theft and the black market, criminals also use straw purchases, which are illegal, to get their hands on firearms. Straw purchasers are people who can pass a background check and intentionally purchase firearms for criminals. The San Bernardino terrorists used a straw purchaser to get the firearms they used to kill 14 people in the 2015 mass shooting.
Background checks for gun purchases often become a talking point after these types of events, but those who partake in this terroristic activity often don’t have criminal histories that would flag a background check. For instance, the Virginia Tech madman legally purchased a gun at a Virginia-based FFL and passed his background check before using it to shoot fellow students.
And then there’s the fact that sometimes the background check system fails. NICS is not a 100-percent absolute system, and time has shown that gun background checks can only be as reliable as the records they contain. Devin Kelley, the Texas Church madman, was prohibited by law to own or purchase a firearm because of a domestic violence conviction while in the Air Force. Yet Kelley purchased four firearms between 2014 and 2017, completing Form 4473 and being approved each time by NICS.
In this case, the Air Force failed to report the court martial to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center, which the NICS relies on for information. So, again, the system is only as good as the information it contains.
(It's also worth pointing out that Kelley's murderous rampage was stopped by a private citizen, a plumber named Stephen Willeford, who legally owned an AR-15. Kelley was shot in the leg and torso by Willeford, stopping him from murdering more people inside that church before the police could arrive.)
And whereas sometimes the system on which gun background checks rely is incomplete, in other instances it produces false positives. In other words, law-abiding citizens get incorrectly matched by NICS, or their respective state-level POC data system, with criminals who have similar names. And if that happens to you, then you could be denied your right to own a gun because of a bureaucratic error. Estimates from the Crime Prevention Research Center pointed to 93 percent of initial NICS denials turning out as false positives in 2009, with similar estimates in 2010. (The Obama administration quit reporting these statistics after 2010.) Yes, individuals can appeal this denial and restore their gun rights, but dealing with bureacracy can be an expensive hassle.
The myriad of issues with NICS is why the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), a trade association representing the firearms industry, launched in 2013. It is also why the NSSF publishes a yearly ranking of the states based on the number of mental health records they provide relative to their population – to encourage the states to comply with existing federal law, and submit any and all records establishing an individual as a prohibited person to the FBI's databases. Their goal is to improve the existing system for everyone so that gun background checks are more accurate and complete.
Whether you like them or not, background checks are here to stay for gun owners and gun purchasers – but they are not the saving grace that some make them out to be. Background checks for gun purchases can only do so much and are not the permanent solution to keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and keeping Americans safe from gun violence. More concerning is that they give the state an ever-growing list of private citizens who own guns, and such a list has historically been used for subsequent gun confiscation attempts.

2020.10.21 07:16 EnGoodz ❗ Famous Founder of the ‘Modern Gay-Rights Movement’ Harry Hay, Mentor was a Jesuit Priest & Says Wearing a Mask is for Homosexuals

Devout Roman Catholic, O.T.O Member, Liberation Theologian, & Famous Founder of the ‘Modern Gay-Rights Movement’ Harry Hay, Most Serious Mentor was a Jesuit Priest & Said Wearing a Mask is for Homosexual Occultists Practicing Communism

“After approximately ten years in South Africa, Big Harry set his sights on Margaret Neall at the formal dances, lawn tennis, and similar social occasions sponsored by the Martha Washington Club for American women in South Africa. Few stories of their courtship survive, save that Margaret’s parents disapproved; there was a seventeen-year age difference between the couple, and Hay was not Catholic. They may have also worried that despite his already accumulated riches, the demanding life of the ambitious, 42-year-old man would be taxing to whomever he married. In fact, he had just been offered the job of opening new gold mines in the uncolonized district of Tarkwa in the Gold Coast. But Margaret knew her own mind and was herself ambitious. Her military family had been genteel but never affluent, and when the handsome, wealthy man proposed, she accepted. As part of the arrangement, Big Harry converted to Catholicism and agreed that any children would be raised in the Catholic Church.”

“Harry’s most serious Mentor was a Jesuit Priest who invited him for weekly tutoring sessions on Philosophy and Religion, hoping (unsuccessfully) to persuade young Harry to take the cloth.”

“When in later years he told this favorite coming-out story, he referred to it ironically as his ‘child molestation speech,’ to make the point of how sharply gay life differs from heterosexual norms. ‘As a child,’ he explained, ‘I molested an adult until I found out what I needed to know.’ He recalled that Matt’s promise of a new world and a future served as a life raft during the isolated period of high school. Far from being an experience of ‘molestation,’ Harry always described it as ‘the most beautiful gift that a fourteen-year-old ever got from his first love!’ The following year, a rapidly maturing Harry broke with the Catholic Church. Like his father, he was not particularly Religious to begin with, but he attended Mass regularly at St. Gregory’s [Roman Catholic Jesuit controlled St. Gregory Nazi-anzen Church Bronson Ave, Los Angeles], at Ninth Street and Norton, to perform his bass solos in the choir. ‘When the soprano was absent, I could use my counter-tenor high head-tones to sing her part. Since the Congregation sat in front of us, nobody noticed that it was me. For the same reason, they didn’t notice when I slipped under the seats with the nice-looking tenor, George, and kissed during mass.’ The Saturday afternoon before Easter [Babylonian child orgy and sacrifice Feast of Ishtar, nowhere found in the Bible, Constantine replaced the Feast of Passover for it] of that year he waited, with many of the other Parishioners of St. Gregory’s, to endure the twice-yearly Confession. ‘Almost everyone in the Congregation was there,’ he recalled, as the Priest, Father Follen, took the Confessions one by one. When it was Harry’s turn, he made his confession, but ‘instead of telling me a penance, Father Follen asked, ‘And now, my son, have you thoroughly searched your soul and confessed to God all the sins you have committed for which you are truly repentant?’ I said yes, I was finished. It did fleetingly cross my mind about George and me, but already I was thinking that this was something that was not a sin, and was not wrong, and was beautiful, and some day I would find the words to tell people. So I said nothing more. ‘Suddenly, there was an abrupt drop in the temperature. I could feel it through the screen. His voice came back very low and very cold, and he gruffly repeated, ‘Have you finished?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ ‘You have not!’ he said. I realized in that instant that Father Follen knew who I was, which he was not supposed to—and that George had talked. ‘Are you going to say you are sorry?’ he asked. I wasn’t sorry, and there was nothing for me to confess. There was a moment of strained silence as he waited, then I heard him putting on his vestments. Before I knew what was happening, he reached into my side of the Confessional, grabbed me by the collar and by the back of the belt, and, in front of all those waiting people, marched me to the front of the Cathedral, kicked open the door with his foot, and pushed me out, shouting, ‘Don’t come back until you are ready to say you’re sorry.’ Harry never did. But when, during the Depression, he visited home from College, he sometimes went to St. Gregory’s, not as a Parishioner, but as a Musician, to play an occasional Mass. ‘From the pulpit, Father Fallon would thank me for the music, and then invite me to the Sacristy, where we would finish off the Sacramental wine. Then the old hypocrite would chase me around the table. But I never let him catch me. I was very wise by then.”

“Sometimes the kids from the Filth and Famine League would go hear Harry play the organ for the Los Angeles Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Temple, or O.T.O., [Jesuit Priest, see website for citations] Aleister Crowley’s notorious anti-Christian [pro-Catholic] Spiritual Group. Based on the [Jesuit created and controlled, see my website for citations] Order of the Golden Dawn, a Secret-Society concerned with the use of ritual sex in magic, Crowley’s Society was not so secret and was known to have created homosexual sex-magic rituals. The O.T.O. motto, [Jesuit Casuistry] ‘Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law,’ inspired the name of its mother Church, the Abbey of Thelema, which in Greek means ‘will.’ The original Abbey was in [Roman Catholic, Jesuit controlled] Sicily, but the Los Angeles chapter also called their meeting place Thelema, although the smallish quarters were in the attic of a four-story house in Hollywood. Regina Kahl, with whom Harry had acted, was high priestess of O.T.O., and she hired Harry to play the organ at Services. In keeping with the times, no one was openly gay, but the Lodge was run by a frail man named Wilfred Smith, who often performed ‘Exorcisms’ on attractive young men. Kahl, whom Harry described as ‘the biggest lez you ever saw,’ and two older women known as the Wolfe sisters were Priestesses. The Wolfe sisters wistfully hinted that sex-magic rituals would be nice if enough people ever joined the Los Angeles Temple—but enough never did. When the services were to start, remembered Harry, ‘a gong sounded and we’d get to the Chapel by ladder. The Congregation sat in pews facing a sarcophagus behind a gauze curtain. Regina, in a flowing robe, slit the veil with a sword and out came Wilfred wearing a snake diadem and a red velvet cape velvet cape made from a theater curtain. ‘I am a man among men,’ he would say. Then, taking Regina, who towered above him, he’d say, ‘Come thou virgin, pure and without spot.’ Many visitors had trouble keeping a straight face. Harry mischievously slipped ‘Barnacle Bill the Sailor’ or ‘Yes, We Have No Bananas!’ slowed to dirge tempo, into the contrapuntal themes he was hired to play. Frequently, he dropped into his [non] former Catholic Church to play a Mass earlier in the day just to balance his Sacrilege.”

“The simple fact of being in New York made even everyday events take on a more vivid quality. ‘Every Sunday there was a parade somewhere or other,’ Harry recalled, ‘parades for various Saints of the Catholic Church, for local candidates, for the neighborhood Junior High School. If we wanted to have a parade that was important to the Left, we’d have to check with the Junior High first.’ The Hays frequented parades.”

“John Lyon Burnside III had already met Harry at Gerald Heard’s house … Burnside’s background was respectable; … winding up as a staff Scientist at [Jesuit created and controlled, see website for citations] Lockheed. … Burnside was at once an attentive listener and as discursive as Harry, the perfect partner for Harry’s ongoing dialogues about gays. Though John arrived a nerve-racking three hours late to their first date, they postponed the chef ’s salad Harry had prepared for another five hours, which they spent in bed. They fell for each other at every level, as they found out how much they had in common. Burnside was also a westerner, from Seattle. Both were [non] lapsed Catholics, were close in age (Burnside was forty-seven; Harry fifty-one) and had weathered long Heterosexual marriages.”

“Harry got to know every Indian dance, every festival time, and the best route to every Catholic Cathedral and windowless Church of the Penitente Catholics. [Literally creating and performing the Roman Catholic black-magic Eucharist for his homosexual sex-magic rituals—that is to say—Roman Catholicism.] He baked his own recipe of high nutrition bread for the gay waifs who came for showers, dried apple chips when there was a bumper crop, and made wine from currants, pears and plums.”
—Stuart Timmons (Homosexual Idolater Author of Harry Hay); ‘The Trouble with Harry Hay: Founder of the Modern Gay Movement,’ pp. 24-25, 48, 54-55, 97-98, 134, 245-246, 247, (Boston: 1990) [Emphasis Mine]
His Jesuit mentor was beyond a doubt absolutely successful in his mission commanded to him by his Jesuit Superior.

From a May, 1951 interview with Jesuit Spiritual Coadjutor, Harry Hay; wearing a mask is for homosexual occultists practicing Communism (Jesuit created Ecumenical Liberation Theology)—:
“One masque group was known as the ‘Société Mattachine.’ These Societies, lifelong Secret Fraternities of unmarried townsmen who never performed in public unmasked, were dedicated to going out into the countryside and conducting dances and rituals during the [Roman Catholic] Feast of Fools, at the Vernal Equinox. Sometimes these dance rituals, or masques, were peasant protests against oppression—with the maskers, in the people's name, receiving the brunt of a given lord's vicious retaliation. So we took the name Mattachine because we felt that we 1950s Gays were also a masked people, unknown and anonymous, who might become engaged in morale building and helping ourselves and others, through struggle, to move toward total redress and change.” —Henry Hay (May, 1951)

2020.10.20 14:46 rusticgorilla Lost in the Sauce: Team Trump attempts to smear Biden using possible Russian disinformation

Welcome to Lost in the Sauce, keeping you caught up on political and legal news that often gets buried in distractions and theater… or a global health crisis.

October surprise

Trump and allies are pushing an unverified and highly suspicious narrative to smear Joe Biden by trying to tie him to his son Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine. Last week, the New York Post published emails and photos allegedly from a laptop belonging to Hunter - but without any proof of provenance.

What we know:

The NYP story: Hunter Biden (who lives in Los Angeles) dropped off multiple laptops at a computer repair shop in Delaware in April 2019 and disappeared. The invoice he allegedly signed was for the low price of $85. The repair shop owner recovers and reads Hunter’s private emails, a few of which mention a possible meeting with his dad, and is so alarmed that he contacts the FBI in November 2019. Before handing the laptops over, though, the repair shop owner copies the contents. Once he realizes the FBI is not doing anything with them, he contacts Giuliani’s lawyer (sometime in early 2020) and hands over the contents of the drives. Giuliani and/or his lawyer then sits on the material for months, finally deciding to release them (with some prompting of Steve Bannon) three weeks before the election.
  • The NYP story was “mostly” written by longtime-NYP reporter Bruce Golding, but he “did not allow his byline to be used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility.” Instead, the lead reporter credited is Emma-Jo Morris, a former producer of Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News (owned by Rupert Murdoch, just like the NYP). Between Wednesday and Sunday, the NYP published more than 50 separate stories and columns tagged “Hunter Biden.”
What the docs published by NYP said: An email dated April 17, 2015, suggests Hunter Biden arranged for a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm to meet with the then-vice president when he was in charge of U.S. policy toward Ukraine. There is no proof the email is authentic, nor is there proof that such a meeting occurred or that “Hunter” even replied to it.
What experts say: WaPo journalist David Ignatius reports that an Eastern European expert in digital forensics who has examined some of the Ukrainian documents leaked to the New York Post said he “found anomalies — such as American-style capitalization of the names of ministries — that suggest fakery.” Thomas Rid, author of “Active Measures,” told WaPo: “Usually when emails are leaked, what investigators look for is the actual email file, and we don’t have that here.” When an email is presented without the metadata, he said, “then you become suspicious.”
Russian op: U.S. intelligence agencies warned the White House last year that Giuliani was the target of an influence operation by Russian intelligence. The intelligence raised concerns that Giuliani was being used to feed Russian misinformation to the president, leading national security adviser Robert O’Brien to caution Trump in a private conversation that any information Giuliani brought back from Ukraine should be considered contaminated by Russia. Trump had “shrugged his shoulders” at O’Brien’s warning, the former official said, and dismissed concern about his lawyer’s activities by saying, “That’s Rudy.”
  • Former National Security Adviser John Bolton repeatedly told his staff to stay out of discussions with Giuliani due to warnings he received from intelligence officials about Trump’s lawyer spreading foreign disinformation. As early as Spring 2019 Giuliani was seen as a tool of Russian intelligence.
  • A reminder that when Giuliani came to Kyiv in December he not only met Andriy Derkach, identified and sanctioned by the US as a Russian agent, he also flew out of Ukraine on a private jet connected to some shady oligarchs. When asked about meeting with Derkach, a Russian agent, Giuliani said: “The chance that Derkach is a Russian spy is no better than 50/50.” Apparently that’s a low enough risk for Rudy…
Trump knew: A source told the Daily Beast that Trump “knew [in recent weeks] that Rudy had something big coming on the Biden family...I remember hearing…something about files, and corruption, and something about sex and drugs…It was evident that the president was interested and wanted it done before the election.” Giuliani further confirmed that Trump knew about the planned leak/smear and approved of it: “Sure, sure. The president knows all about this,” Giuliani said, adding that he had briefed Trump on the “general” parameters of the files.
Chinese connection: Social media accounts connected to billionaire Chinese dissident Guo Wengui began posting about the laptop story weeks before the NYP story was published. You may recall that when Steve Bannon was arrested for fraud, he was aboard Guo’s yacht. Just days before the NYP published the alleged laptop emails, photos of Rudy Giuliani and Guo showed up on Twitter. If taken the same day as posted, that would mean he was with Guo when he reportedly gave NYP the alleged Biden materials.

Republican corruption

Oracle founder Larry Ellison donated $250,000 to a political action committee supporting Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) the same day his company was declared the first official U.S. partner for TikTok. Graham was reportedly pivotal in arranging the deal, saying he personally called Trump to advocate for the sale of TikTok to a U.S. business in lieu of a total ban. “If TikTok is saved, you can thank me,” he said.
U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, a Central Texas Republican and member of the House Financial Services Committee, used his powerful post in Congress to try to help a top donor in his dealings with a publicly traded bank, court records show. Williams allegedly used& his position on the powerful House committee to try to force the CEO of UMB Bank into meeting with oil field investor Gary Martin of Marble Falls.
Attorney Kyle Hirsch testified under oath that Williams’ intervention exerted inappropriate pressure on UMB and that unless the CEO agreed to meet with his donor there could be problems for the bank in Congress. “The Congressman indicated that his role on the Financial Services Committee included legislation that was coming down the pike and that he was urging the bank to meet with his constituent or there would be adverse consequences as it relates to his role on the Financial Services Committee,” Hirsch said, according to his deposition in the case.
For at least seven years, GOP Rep. Jim Hagedorn (MN-1) appears to have enjoyed rent-free use of a campaign office supplied by a political donor. “It sounds like something that could potentially be a fairly serious violation of campaign finance law and the ethics rules,” said Bryson Morgan, a former investigative counsel at the Office of Congressional Ethics.
Sen. Lindsey Graham used an on-camera interview after the Supreme Court confirmation hearings Wednesday to solicit contributions for his reelection campaign, a move that a congressional legal expert said is a clear violation of Senate ethics rules. Senate ethics rules prohibit members from soliciting campaign contributions in any federal building.
“I don’t know how much it affected fundraising today, but if you want to help me close the gap — — a little bit goes a long way,” said Graham, R-S.C, who is locked in a highly competitive race against well-funded Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison.
Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) has used her office’s taxpayer-funded resources to send out a robocall touting a key campaign issue—her work on COVID-19 policy—to Arizonans. Normally, mass official communication with constituents so close to an election would be prohibited. But a waiver approved by the Senate Rules Committee in March has made it permissible—if, and only if, the communication is for the purposes of “providing updated information about the pandemic, and providing information about the federal government's response.”
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) is spending $819,000 of taxpayer money on a Fox News ad promoting her state as a “place to safely explore” despite the pandemic. South Dakota currently has the highest positivity rate in the nation (36%) and the second-highest new cases per day (753 per million people), right behind North Dakota. Noem has also spent $130,000 to build a studio in the basement of the Capitol, which she has used frequently for Fox News appearances.

Court cases

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals will rehear the House’s case to enforce a subpoena for former White House counsel Donald McGahn. A three-judge panel earlier ruled 2-1 that the House Judiciary Committee could not enforce the subpoena absent a law explicitly giving it the authority to do so. The majority in the previous panel was made up of now-retired Judge Thomas Griffith, a W. Bush appointee (who made way for McConnell protege Justin Walker on the court), and Judge Karen Henderson, a H.W. Bush appointee. Judge Judith Rogers, a Clinton appointee, dissented.
  • NOTE: The D.C. Circuit has essentially allowed the White House to run out the clock. The subpoena to McGahn was first issued in April 2019. In taking up the case, the full court asked the parties to address “whether the case would become moot when the Committee’s subpoena expires upon the conclusion of the 116th Congress.” Oral arguments are not scheduled until February 2021.
  • If you’re confused about why the D.C. Circuit is hearing the McGahn case again, here is the reason: The first time the court ruled on the McGahn subpoena was in August, when the full bench determined the House has standing to sue the executive branch to enforce subpoenas. This time, the issue is “cause of action,” meaning whether House Democrats have legal ground to take the subpoena issue to court.
The Supreme Court refused to hear a case brought by Democratic lawmakers against President Trump over his private businesses accepting payments from foreign governments. In declining to revive the case, the justices let stand a decision by a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit to dismiss the lawsuit - a win for Trump. The panel was made up of Judge Thomas Griffith (W. Bush appointee), Karen Henderson (H.W. Bush appointee), and David Tatel (Clinton appointee). All three unanimously ruled that the individual members did not have legal standing to take the president to court.
“Our conclusion is straightforward because the Members — 29 Senators and 186 Members of the House of Representatives — do not constitute a majority of either body and are, therefore, powerless to approve or deny the President’s acceptance of foreign emoluments,” the [earlier three-judge panel] ruled.
  • Note, there are still two other pending cases before the Court: Trump v. CREW and Trump v. Maryland & D.C.
Trump filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court to block the release of his tax returns. Last week, a federal appeals court ruled Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance can enforce a subpoena for Mr. Trump's business records and tax returns.
SCOTUS cases coming up: On Nov. 30, SCOTUS will hear arguments to determine whether the Trump administration can exclude unauthorized immigrants from the 2020 census count. Next year, SCOTUS will take up two challenges to Trump’s immigration policies: his diversion of military funds to pay for construction of the southern border wall, and a policy that has required tens of thousands of asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their claims are processed.
  • Three Muslim men who said they were placed for years on a “no-fly” list because they refused to become FBI informants told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that they should be able to sue the agents for targeting them because of their religion.
A federal judge Sunday struck down a Trump administration rule that could have stripped food stamps from nearly 700,000 people. Chief Judge Beryl Howell (Obama appointee) of the D.C. District Court wrote: "The final rule at issue in this litigation radically and abruptly alters decades of regulatory practice, leaving states scrambling and exponentially increasing food insecurity for tens of thousands of Americans.”

Russia: The United States on Monday unsealed criminal charges against six Russian intelligence officers in connection with some of the world’s most damaging cyberattacks, including disruption of Ukraine’s power grid and the release of a mock ransomware virus that infected computers globally and caused billions of dollars in damage.
DOJ: Attorney General Bill Barr’s “unmasking” probe has quietly ended with no prosecutions or findings of wrongdoing. The investigation, conducted by U.S. Attorney John Bash, was focused on whether Obama-era officials improperly requested the identities of individuals whose names were redacted in intelligence documents.
DOJ: Phillip Halpern, a 36-year veteran of the Justice Department, accused AG Barr of abusing his power to sway the election for President Trump and said he was quitting. He said he would have quit earlier but stayed on because he worried that the department under Mr. Barr would have interfered in his prosecution of former Representative Duncan D. Hunter, Republican of California, who pleaded guilty in December to conspiracy to steal campaign funds.
Trump campaign: A newly published trove of Cambridge Analytica emails and other documents from the 2016 election demonstrate how the data firm operated as a tool for a billionaire family to unlawfully influence U.S. politics and help elect President Trump. It includes a never-before-published 27-page post-election report from February 2017 shows that Cambridge Analytica claimed credit for creating, producing, and distributing ads for the Trump campaign, which included “5,000+ ad campaigns” on behalf of Trump that generated “1.5 billion impressions.”
Trump campaign: A Chinese national whose Instagram page features pictures of him wearing a VIP pass at a 2018 rally for President Donald Trump, is now on U.S. soil after being charged with conspiring to distribute cocaine and laundering the illicit funds, according to court documents filed earlier this week.
Trump campaign: For a fourth time, pro-Trump super PAC America First Action used stock footage from Russia and Belarus in a major ad buy that’s airing in three swing states.
HHS: The health department’s top lawyer is warning in an internal memo that President Donald Trump's plan to give seniors $200 discount cards to buy prescription drugs could violate election law. The lawyer’s objection, coupled with his advice to seek approval from the Department of Justice, is a significant blow to Trump’s hope to promote the hastily devised plan before Election Day.
Trump money: The State Department says it has about 450 pages of records showing government spending at President Trump’s properties. But this week, it signaled that it plans to release only two of those pages before the November election. The State Department pays for hotel rooms and other expenses when foreign leaders visit Trump properties, and when federal employees, such as Secret Service agents, follow Trump and his family to the president’s overseas clubs.
Trump: Trump was receiving one of his first codeword classified briefings on Afghanistan, at his Bedminster club, when he suddenly got bored and ordered milkshakes. The incident became legendary inside the CIA, where like at other agencies, morale has slumped.
Voting: A deadlocked Supreme Court on Monday let stand a lower-court ruling that requires Pennsylvania election officials to count absentee ballots received within three days after Election Day, Nov. 3, even if they are not postmarked. Four justices – Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh – indicated that they would have granted the Republicans’ request.
  • While a temporary win for voting rights, the 4-4 decision is worrying because once Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed, there will likely be five votes in favor of a radical, anti-democratic theory that would stop state Supreme Courts from enforcing state election laws to protect the right to vote. This Twitter thread goes into more detail.
Immigration: A total of 172 immigrants were arrested across six sanctuary cities within a six-day span, according to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The arrests were made in Baltimore, Denver, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington, DC, between October 3-9.
