This is a score out of 100 that looks at the median IMDb rating of all episodes in a season and the median IMDb votes of all episodes in a season. Ties were broken by the median episode IMDb rating. Given that IMDb has only been around since 1990, the TV shows and seasons that made the cut are skewed more toward recent decades.

2016.02.07 11:19 Chocow8s Weekly Richard Armitage News - February 7, 2015

News, Articles, Posts
Richard Armitage, in the role of Francis Dolarhyde from HANNIBAL
In a chilling, largely physical performance, Richard Armitage nearly steals the entire third (and to date, final) season of HANNIBAL as the “Tooth Fairy” himself, Francis Dolarhyde. It takes an incredibly skilled performer to make such a terrifying psychopath- one that murders families and targets the family of our protagonist- so sympathetic and poetic; from his very first episode on HANNIBAL, it was guaranteed that Armitage would find himself in the running for a Chainsaw Award in 2016.
Sarah Wayne Callies was thrilled that her Into The Storm co-star Richard Armitage knows Walking Dead friend Andrew Lincoln Yip Wai Yee
American actress Sarah Wayne Callies assumes all English actors know one other, she says.
She is being facetious, of course, but she hit the nail on the head when she discovered that her latest co-star, Richard Armitage, is in fact friends with her former The Walking Dead leading man, Andrew Lincoln.
Speaking to Life! in a telephone interview this week to promote her new movie, Into The Storm, in which she stars with Armitage, she says with a chuckle: "After Richard was cast, I called Andy (Lincoln) to ask about him and it turns out they really knew each other from when they did Strike Back (2010) together.
"Andy told me that Richard is such a gentleman and he's so talented and all that. Unbeknown to me, Richard had done the exact same thing about me to Andy."
She adds cheerily: "Andy shortened the distance between Richard and me because we had someone who cared so much about the both of us say such nice things about us to the other person. So working with Richard from day one felt like I was working with a friend."

Who was the best prankster on the set of The Walking Dead? What's the best prank you 've pulled? Andy rothenberg had a day on set that absolutely killed us... we were shooting a scene in 105 where everyone contemplates amy's death and tries to figure out what do to so she doesn't become a walker. it was HOT. atlanta HOT - that special kind of heat that fries your skin and makes it hard to think straight... and we'd been out there for hours, making the scene. it mattered so much to everyone that we get it right, because wonderful emma bell was leaving our family and we were all crushed by it. there was so much emotion, so much tension and exhaustion. and then in them middle of a take andy rothenberg (played jim - so brilliantly) looks over his shoulder at jon bernthal, blows him a kiss, and mouths the words 'i love you.' i thought jon was going to have a heart attack he was trying to hard not to laugh. it brought us all to tears, we were cracking up so hard. just what we needed...
How do you feel about the fact that most of the TWD fans hate your character ? You know, in my experience the fans that come to talk to me have nothing but love for lori. i hear from lots of people who appreciate that she was nuanced, complicated, real, and flawed. the love i've gotten from fans for lori's time on the walking dead has been so moving, and i have been so grateful for the people who have the respect and admiration for her that i do. i think she's a remarkable woman: brave, passionate, relentless in her determination to protect her family. after all, she saved rick's life - if she hadn't warned him about shane he would likely have been killed.
That said, there will always be people who don't like a character, no matter who you play. that kind of reaction is fair well within the rights of any viewer. if the issues lori raised initiated interesting discussions, i'm all for it. we learn from our disagreements and we grow when we listen to others...
Hi Sarah, im a big fan of you from The Walking Dead. Really liked your portrayal of Lori and it was always exciting to watch you on screen. The most memorable scene was probably the last. saying goodbye to chandler as lori was saying goodbye to carl was an extraordinary thing to have to do. i have such respect and love for that young man who i met when he was just a kid. it broke my heart that i wouldn't be there for him on set anymore and i wouldn't get to watch him grow up and keep an eye out for him.
My question is: What was your most memorable scene from The Walking Dead? And what made it so memorable? There was also my last scene with jon bernthal, the one by the windmill at the end of season two. jon is like a brother to me and i am unquestionably a better actor for having learned so much from him. again: it broke my heart to say goodbye. but then, i suppose i'm also hugely grateful to TWD for being a job where i got to form such bonds with wonderful people...
Hi Sarah, thanks for doing this Q&A. Here's my question, When did you first know you wanted to become an actor? Much love from France xx Bonjour france! kind of a hard question to answer because for years i really fought my desire to be an actor professionally. it seemed so unlikely that i could succeed - there are so many people who want to do it who never make it, and i didn't think i could do any better than they could. i was in college when i realized that i would have to fail at being an actor before i could be happy settling for something else.
But the first time i fell in love with acting was at a production of 'the secret garden' on broadway in NYC starring mandy patinkin. i'd never seen anyone do what he did and i thought to myself that if i could be a part of something like that i would be the luckiest person in the world.
Were you upset at all that Lori didn't live longer in the series? I was happy lori lived as long as she did... you never know on a show like that, particularly when you know she dies in the series. i thought her death was done so beautifully, the way they wrote it...
What does Andrew Lincoln smell like? Andy smells like the rest of us on the show: like sunscreen, bug repellant, sweat, and deodorant. but he's a wonderful gentleman no matter what.
What's your favorite kind of sandwich? Sandwich? pulled pork barbecue with cole slaw. oh you just made me so hungry...!
Are you a fan of TWD as a comic book series? The comic books are rad. groundbreaking.
Do you still keep in touch with the current cast? LOVE the cast and we just saw each other at comic con in san diego. still some of by best friends. nice to get to know new folks like chad coleman, too... they have such wonderful people working on the show... STILL.
Thanks for doing this Sarah, I'm excited to see The Storm and to see you in other great projects by great people. You're welcome! hope you like the movie. xoxo.
Do you still watch The Walking Dead even though you aren't on the show? That whole cast was amazing... i made so many friends working on TWD and feel so enormously grateful to all of them. one of my favorites was Melissa McBride, because she came up with the most amazing little improvs between takes. sometimes she'd have me in tears... sometime i'd be laughing my tail off...
Who was your favorite cast member from The Walking Dead to work with? As for watching the show, i haven't had a TV in years, so even when i was on the show i didn't watch. i've seen a few episodes here and there, and I'm always so proud of everyone's work. the ep with melissa and chad that mike satro directed last year (the 'watch the flowers' episode...) was just spectacular...
What was your first acting experience like? Magic.
I realized that we can create worlds with our imaginations, and that we can explore what it means to be human by putting ourselves into the lives of other people. it was transcendent to me... i'd never felt more free or more passionate about anything.
That said, i was a kid, and probably wasn't very good! the techniques and the skills to bring a person to life took time, experience, and training... but god i still love it so much.
Do you think your new film Into The Storm is a film for everyone, or would you say it's just a film for those who love action/thrillers? I'd say it's a movie that's got some tremendously cool special effects that will satisfy anyone who's into that kind of thing (i am - and i saw the movie last night and it's AMAZING), but it's anchored by a simple story of a man and a woman who are separated from their children in a storm and fight like hell to get back to them. in a way, you could say it's a story that pits the power of a parent's love for their children against the power of a storm.
Have you stayed in touch with Wentworth Miller or any other Prison Break co-stars? I loved you and Wentworth's chemistry :) Living in different cities, wentworth and i haven't been able to stay in touch as much as we'd like. but i have a world of respect for the personal choices he's made recently: i was hugely happy for him and proud of him when he came out as gay. it was a brave choice, and one that i imagine will have a powerful impact on the lives of young men and women in the LGBTQ community.
Was there always a plan in place for you to return to Prison Break? No... i came back to the show because the fans insisted on it... they were amazing... put together campaigns to bring dr. t back and made themselves relentless with fox. it was one of the most moving things i've ever experienced, realizing how hard they were fighting for me to go back to that job. i'll never forget it!
Hey Sarah. As somebody who holds Prison Break in such personal high regard, I'm curious as to what your opinion on it is. Do you think it should have remained a mini-series like originally intended, or that it was better being expanded into multiple seasons. Also, what differences would there have been if it did end after only one season? Such a cool question... the worst thing you can do is 'stretch the taffy to thin'... make more stories than there should be in order to keep a series alive for the sake of people making money. i was glad the show ended when it did because the writers told me they were out of stories to tell and didn't want the show to get silly. i do think the first two seasons were our strongest, and the intricacy of season one was so extraordinary.
Do you know why they never refer to the walkers as zombies in the TWD series, especially when zombies are such a cultural name? I think they were trying to create a world where 'zombies' didn't exist... does that make sense? trying to avoid scenes in TWD where people talked about all the zombie movies they've seen - it could have gotten quite self-reflexive. when we call them 'walkers' they're specific to our world and our story.
Hey Sarah, would you allow it to your daughter to watch your death scene in The Walking Dead? And if she has already seen it then what was her reaction? My kids are too young for that right now... eventually i'll let them watch if they want to, but i'd prep them first. But i find that children by and large are pretty good at understanding the difference between reality and fantasy... you know?
What was your reaction when you found out you were killed off? Well glenn mazara told me about it on the way to the airport to bury his mother who had just died. so my first response was, 'okay, glenn, i'll be fine. don't worry about me. how are YOU doing?'
When you got casted on TWD what was it first thought? Had u heard of it? I wept when i found out i'd been cast. it meant so much for me to work with gale anne hurd and frank darabont - they were such powerful and creative storytellers.

I'm guessing that the cloudy eye look is done with a contact lens, right? Does it make it harder to see? Also, on a scale of 1 to getting an itchy sack on stage in high school, how uncomfortable was the makeup? No they actually took a blowtorch to our eyes. Yup, contacts! these contacts actually take up your whole eye. It took them 20 mins to get mine in. Pretty much I could hardly see anything. It burned too. It appeared as if I was looking underwater with no goggles on. The make-up was a messy gunk of fun. Felt like sticky syrup on my face and it was 95 degrees that day! So pretty much i was an itchy sack of goo.
What kind of training did you have take to look more zombified? A month before filming started we had to take "Zombie School" Link to www.youtube.com The head make-up guy Greg Nicotero was the head zombie expert and gave us tips for walking, acting, appearing to be zombies then we had a chance to show him our best. From there he selected a few people to be in the main scenes based on how well they did or if they just looked like a zombie already haha.
Did you have trouble walking normally after shooting? I still don't walk the same.
What tips did he give you? I train actors for a non-profit haunted attraction and I would love to be able to pass along Pro-zombie acting advice. The best tip he gave us was to literally shut down our brain. Stare of into the distance and think about nothing. Only when something triggers can we go ravenous.
I'm totes jelly you got to hang out with nicotero. He is probably one of the coolest people I've met.He had to shave my face to put the prosthetic on and he said, "Well this is the first time I've ever shaved another man."
How do you cope with it? Do you get comments on how you walk? All the time. People ask me if I'm really a zombie.
How did that horse taste? lol. Did you get killed or is your character still out there roaming? Mmmm my mouth is watering again for thinking about it! Greg Nicotero literally came over to the fake horse with a trash bag full of "guts" and dumped it everywhere. The director yelled action and we dug in! This scene was especially crazy because we were all diving in to get a bite to be on camera and to get messy!
I was shot by Rick while he escaped with Glen up the back alley ladder. This is the scene where he meets Glenn for the first time. Luckily I was only shot in the chest :) not in the head. Muhahaha.
What were the "guts" made out of? Some sort of gelatin and corn syrup.
I heard there were some anal beads in the horse for the intestinal tract look. Hahaha I've heard that too. It is most likely true. If it works, use it.
Is Maggie way hotter in person? Maggie was not in the first season so I didn't see her. but im sure she is. I heard she has to get human make-up on because shes really a zombie.
As more of an "extra", do you get treated any differently than the "main" actors? Yeah. There were hundreds of us at times. Mainly in the first episode for the downtown Atlanta scene. We were all kept in a big room where they would take groups of people on set at different times. A lot of waiting! They fed us and were always really nice though. The main actors were off in their own trailers.
What did they feed you? Life flesh, I hope ... They also did a casting call for people with meaty brains. I'm sure they were surprised when they found out they were using them for fresh food.
Do you follow The Walking Dead? Do you like it? Do you talk to your friends about it? My friends and I watch every Episode! I loved the second season. This season is good but a little dry for me.
I find it interesting that you liked the second season more than this new one. I enjoyed all of them, but so far this new season is blowing the second season out of the water for me. It's like the writers are just trying to find ways to make me cry with each new episode now. I liked the fresh feel of the second season. New territory, new characters, new responsibilities, Shane going NUTS. This season is good don't get me wrong, I'm just slowly becoming uninterested in the characters.
Darn I'm sorry to hear that you're becoming uninterested. While I agree that some of them have jus become sort of static I can't get enough of watching Carl. He pissed me off so much in season 2 and now I love him. Pretty good child actor I think. Really? I think he's one of the worst child actors I have ever seen.
Did you get to meet Andrew Lincoln? Also can you find the scene where you and your friend kill Ed? I did actually. I was on top of the tank when Rick comes out of the top to escape. During set-up and practice for the scene we spoke for a second. He actually has a British accent. I did not kill Ed my best friend did. I looked on youtube but couldn't find the scene. Shes the red head zombie and she was also featured on the cover of Entertainment Weekly (The red-head in the front) They interviewed her as well and you can see it here : Link to popwatch.ew.com
How long were you in makeup awaiting filming of your scene? Were you killed? What is your stance on whether or not walkers retain memories from their past lives? Greg Nicotero did my make-up. It took a little over an hour. They had a hundred or so zombies a day at times. The zombies featured close to the camera which is what I was assigned had intense makeup while the hoards of zombies in the background just wore masks.
How does one get a role as an extra for stuff like this? My friend and I worked at Netherworld Haunted House so we got an email from the owner telling us to apply for the show. We emailed our pics to the casting crew and got a call to come in for zombie school.
Do they have permanent zombies or are all the zombies new people each time? They have a select few people they use a lot. Mainly for there look (super skinny faces). This is how the "bicycle girl" was selected. Past zombies are always welcome back. They like to cycle through different people so they are constantly bringing new faces up close to the camera.
After working for the day, did you and the 99 other zombies terrorize your local town? Haha good question! At the end of the day they made sure to take all of our make-up off or you don't get paid. Prosthetics especially. Trust me we all thought about this. BUT during the shoot they had to escort us to the shut-off filming area and on the way there we passed through a territory of home-less people. Some of the reactions: "Yall gonna be on a movie, how can I get on?" and "Do you want to buy my cell phone?"
How much did you get paid? We got paid $150 a day for the Atlanta downtown scene. 10-15 hr work days. I hear they pay a lot less now.
How many days were you on set? Also, who would I get in contact with to apply as an extra? 3 days. The downtown Atlanta scene took a full 2 days to shoot in the 2 hottest days of the summer that year. 2 full days for a 1 min. scene.
Did you ever have to re-shoot a scene, in the event one of the extras messed up? I'd love to go on, but I have a feeling I'd end up fucking up my zombie-self. Scenes were reshot all the time. 4-8 x a scene. All movies reshoot their scene just in case the next one might be better. The extras were great performers. The scenes were re-shot mainly for the main actors.
Absolutely. For the extras that attack a cast member, I'm assuming whomever it is producing/directing, spends quite a while telling them how to attack/kill said character? Yeah especially when its a gruesome attack. Sometimes even the head make-up guys will get in make-up to preform the zombie attacks that are most crucial.
Link to www.youtube.com Here is a clip of when Rick found Glenn, are you in this scene? Yup I was the second person shot in the back alley. pretty hard to see me.
Is Sarah Wayne Callies really pretty in person? Didn't see her either on set.
Now that you have gone through "zombie school" what are the chances that you will be asked to come back as a zombie? They usually don't call back people because they have so many apply that they don't need to and they prefer to cycle through new faces. They only have a select few they use a lot for their looks (already looking like a zombie). I havn't been able to reapply because of work.
So what your saying is if i take meth for a little while i'll be a better candidate for being a zombie? Exactly. You sir are intelligent. crack is also a cheaper alternative.
I heard they give everyone numbers, and this dictates how close you will be to the camera and the amount of makeup given? Maybe. They changed it up everyday I worked. One day it was greek names: Alpha, Betas, etc. The next is was dog names: Shepherds, Retrievers, Poodles. Surprised they didn't have Blood Hound.
Do you know a guy named P.C. that worked on the show? He comes into our store in Atlanta all the time and gives off the weirdest vibe. Don't think so. Was he a zombie or a set guy? And I'm sure he does. I frequently ran into a lot of those kind of people on set. May be the perfect place to find them.. or on the set of Blue's Clues.
DO you think being on the show dampens your ability to enjoy watching it on tv? Not at all! It actually makes it more interesting to me on a more dynamic level. Although I do see the zombies as crazy co-workers on the show it is still none the less interesting.
I know it's a little late, but I am a HUGE fan of the walking dead. I was wondering why there hasn't been any children walkers other than the little girl in the first season, Sophia, and Penny. I mean there had to be children walkers in Atlanta or something. I'm asking this because I'm 14 and you don't know how badly I want to be a walker [I've been in multiple productions on off-Broadway productions, so I have enough acting experience.] If you could respond back that'd be awesome, also how did you get the chance to audition for a walker role? Being in zombie make-up all day is very uncomfortable. Little kids would rip it off after an hour. And You might have to be 18 or older. not sure.
Fight for your life and inevitably die. Or. Just get bitten right away and join the crowd? Wield a chainsaw and shotgun and head for the islands. puts on cool shades
Do they restict you from talking to some of the main characters? Not really. If your in a scene with one of them, especially if your getting killed, they will most likely talk to you.
Do you think they will ever call you back in, you know for another shot? They have plenty of new people to use so they don't usually call back people. Only a select few who are close to the make-up guys get to come back for more shoots.
Why couldn't you kill Karl? I have been requesting that for 3 seasons.
Do they have any specific ages you have to be? All ages! They love diversity. Zombies don't discriminate.
Did you film on location in Senoia? Did you spend anytime exploring the area and if so, any impressions? Nope, I was only in the downtown Atlanta scene.
Did you get to meet Norman Reedus? I saw you met Andrew Lincoln, so this was my next question. I did not.
Have you met "Rick" or his kid? I don't know their real names :/ Link to www.reddit.com
After playing a zombie, would you be more apt to give up your brains during a possible apocalypse seeing that you empathize with their plight? Good question. I'd be more apt to give up some-one else's brains. You know, the annoying ones.
Have you or your friend been an extra in anything else? I've heard it's normally an unpleasant experience where people are treated like dirt. To anyone who wants to become an extra, how would you suggest they go about it? And what roles would you suggest they look for? I've heard zombie roles are fun, but are any other kinds of extra roles fun? And how un-fun are normal extra roles? Good question! This was my friend and I's first and only extra work. We were never interested in the idea of being a "normal" extra but getting a call from Netherworld saying they need zombies for a film was right down our alley. While we were there we saw what the film industry was actually like.
We met a lot of other extras there that were only interested in work in general. The type of people that will do "anything" to be on camera. I found these people to be absurdly annoying. They always talked about what roles they had done..." I was the girl on Vampire Diaries that was drinking coffee in the background in the coffee shop"... NO ONE GIVES A FUCK!!! During shooting these "people" were rushing to the front to get on camera, which completely ruined the experience for everyone. This caused people to trip and bust ass or even kicked in the face. These people are trash. Aslo To become an extra I would suggest looking online for your local extras casting group. I know in Atlanta there is an extras casting agency on Facebook always posting for specific extras and some featured roles. Craigslist is always a start to get into the business. Sometimes they even need people to help on set. This is by far a much more rewarding position then dealing with the extras.
When choosing between available extra roles, how can someone tell whether an extra role would be a fun one in which they'd be treated well? If its just a role for a normal movie or show, in my opinion, its going to be boring with a lot of waiting. Most of the time you will be fed and treated well if your working through a good company. If your a flesh eating zombie extra its going to be FUN.
What was it like? Did you get shot? If yes what episode? And are you also upset that they have a midseason break because it was starting to get really awesome? Fun! yes in ep02. Haha yup its a bit frustrating. I think they do it for editing purposes. They wrap filing the end of August sometimes sept. So they dont have much time to put it together. Don't quote me but this is what Ive heard.
How many other "zombies" were on set when you were there? A hundred or so.
What was getting shot like? I know it's a prop gun and a bag of blood or whatever, but having any gun pointed my way would be fairly terrifying.. accidents do happen. The gun was just as loud as a normal gun so we would know exactly when to react. A bit intimidating.
Why don't they cast any fat zombies? I know the United States has way more fat people, and the fat zombie to skinny zombie ratio is bullshit. I've seen maybe 1 fat zombie on the walking dead - the one glenn tried pulling out of the well on the farm. Do they just not cast fat zombies or what? Haha i have no clue. I guess cause zombies are suppose to be hungry
What episodes did you work on? My friends grandfather was in s01e04 as one of the people in the old persons home. Episode 1 and 2. Thats so cool! Its always a blast to work with older people and see how much fun they have being a kid again!
Where are you from?! I'm in fayette county PTC and have several friends who have been zombie extras on TWD! I'm from Gwinnett.
She's so fucking tuff. I love her. And I'll bet she's fucking banging in person. Agreed. Shes a primetime badass. Makes Glenn look like a bitch :/
I have thought so for some time, until last weekend's mid season finale. Holy shit Glenn's badass came out in glorious fashion!!! Exactly! that was raw.
I agree on the memory thing. Like when Morgan's wife hears her kid crying she tries to get into the house, but that's just me. Also Michone's zombie pets. I think they were her brothers or some sort of family. She might have eventually been able to stable them out?
Exactly. But the Governor's daughter wasn't like that at all. It just doesn't compute. Yeah. I think they are just toying with the idea right now to set up a later realization. We will end up finding out soon enough because they have focused on this idea for most of the season.
I have the feeling that'll be the season finale. That or it's gonna be something with Morgan. They made him too big a deal in the beginning to just leave him to die. I agree. The Morgan thing may be true or it may not be. The comics carry out the answer but dont want to ruin it.
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you for not ruining it. Morgan is gonna be a freaking boss. Like Rick and Karl but way more hardcore. If they bring Morgan back I agree. I think also if he comes back his son will be dead. Much like Carl should be.
This is GREAT! thanks for posting. Did they make this just for fun?
You're so lucky! That sounds like so much fun... Have you seen this? Link to youtu.be. By far the best walking dead tribute I've seen! And I know the dude that made it! This is GREAT! thanks for posting.

Is Carl ever going to stay in the fucking house? EDIT: Might as well spell the annoying little piece of shit's name right. Nope. Kid never listens.
Im a amputee wanting to work in horror. Any leads? There was a girl I met who was a featured zombie as well, and she was an amputee. She was genuine and everyone like her. You can definitely work in any horror just be kind to others, and they will work with you.
Im actually headed to London soon to act in a horror movie but Im more looking to work in the corpse/monstezombie area. Know any casting companies that specialize in that area? Sorry, none that I know of. Congratulation on your upcoming act in London.
Did you and the other zombie stand ins eat during breaks with the makeup on? Kind of a weird question, but I just think it'd be funny if one were to find a bunch of zombies chatting and eating small sandwiches Funny question. Yes. All zombies had lunch with other extras separate from the film crew. It was actually hard to open my mouth due to layers of prosthetics. They fed us spaghetti and salad. Odd choices for a zombie. As a stand-in, I ate with the film crew and it was the greatest meal I ever had! They had seafood, chicken, steak, variety of fruits, salad bar, desserts. It was like an upscale buffet.
I was curious. If you saw a zombie walking down the road, would you run it over? (about 600yds from the big rock pit, charlie sheen is in the 'hood lately) Probably not. I don't feel like repairing for the damages.
Were you shot/killed on screen? And what episode(s) were you in? First episode. Rick is on the horse in Atlanta and makes a sudden turn to be surprise by a swarm of flesh-eating zombies. Then show a glimpse of me in my gruesome moment ready to attack.
Did you do just one zombie role? or have you portrayed multiple roles in multiple episodes? A couple. I wore a mask sometimes when I'm not featured. Then I began standing in.
Ok cool, how is a zombie salary? does it pay all the bills? The pay was well but doesn't pay all the bills.
That would be awesome. I absolutely love that show. How did you land the gig? A friend of mine is a PR and he notified me to send in head/body shots for the show. I received good news to audition, and I was sent to zombie school. I put on my best zombie performance along with hundreds of other people. More good news received, and I became a featured zombie. Since I was the only Asian, I then stood-in for Glenn.
You said that you stood in for Glen at one point, what episode was that and what did you do? A few of the pilot episodes. I followed director's order to position/move in the way he wants me to.
Does being one of the zombies in this show at all ruin the intensity/edginess of watching it on TV? Absolutely not! Portraying a zombie was just a small part of something so big. The show itself is already intensifying, and being a part of it makes it even more eager to watch.
Did you meet any of the cast, if so what were they like? Andrew was a nice man with a funny sense of humor. When I first met him, I was surprised by his British accent because I thought he was American. It is amazing to see him change his accent back and forth. Sarah was nice too. She was fascinated with my make-up and we did small talk. She brings her Labradorean around on set sometimes. Steven is a cool guy with a genuine attitude. Iron E was even more cooler who jokes around all the time. Jon was a more serious person. Almost seems like he is in character 24/7. Jeffery was friendly as well. We had a small chat about our favorite food to eat.
How long did the makeup take? Any good stories? Did the zombies / stand in's hate the Lori character too? The make-up took about 3 hours. Filming would be really early in the morning. Since I was featured, I had to be there earlier than usual. I got to meet most of the cast, and they were really amazing.
I hate to be that guy... but proof? Link to imgur.com
Did the zombies have to make sounds with their voices or did they add the sound after they got the film material? Have there been any "unprofessional" zombies who have been giggling or something like that? They added the sound later, but many people did groan to make it more realistic. There had been an incident of someone who wouldn't keep his mouth shut. He is constantly talking regardless of where he is. They realize he was the odd one out, so they let him go.
Is the person who plays Daryl in the show actually nice? He plays the "tough but lovable badass" role so well in the show it's hard for me to picture himself as a nice guy outside the set. I didn't get to officially meet Daryl unfortunately, but during takes when he is not in character, he is a nice person who jokes with Steven and Iron E mostly. Together, they're are like a comedic trio.
Is Sarah Wayne Callies as gorgeous in real life as she is on TV? Yes she is! I love her character from prison break and actually meeting her made my heart skip a beat.
Are you credited on IMDB? We need to get you to the top, my friend. Unfortunately I am not. Just remember me as the distinguished Asian zombie.
How does it feel having all that make up on? Does it annoy you? Get in your eye? What is the longest you had it on for? :) It was uncomfortable because we shot during the summer. The weather was scorching hot and layers and layers of prosthetics were slowly dripping down my face. Some has even gotten into my eye and thankfully make up is always nearby for assistance.
What brand of contacts did they use for your eyes? I don't know what brand, but the contact was chosen by producers who gave them to make-up. It was actually quite uncomfortable.
How'd you get into acting? any tips for someone trying to start? Anyone can get into extra work if you match the description they are looking for. As far as acting, engage yourself into everything that is out there like theater, short films, independent movies, books etc. the more you experience the more you will learn. Work hard and finally, always focus on your craft. Good luck and always dream big!
Do you actually like the show? Or is this just work for you? Thanks in advance :) Hell yeah! I love TWD! Can't wait for season 3!
The makeup artist are amazing for that show. How long did it take them to apply, and how long did you leave your makeup on before you took a hundred plus pictures to post on your facebook or so? Make up would be on for more than 12 hours. A regular filming day.
Oh wow. Thanks for the AMA... Can I ask... How would one get a job to do this sort of stuff? I know I and lots of others would love to be a zombie on TV or something like that! As far as being an extra, research local areas that are filming nearby. Send in your headshot/bodyshot if the description best fits you. Good luck!
A lot of the show is filmed where I'm from. Are you from around that area too or did you come from a far way place to be an extra? I am actually around the area. I'm a native born in Atlanta
What does your fatheuncle think of this. Dad thinks its nonsense and says I need to utilize my time to study. Typical Asian parents.

You said you've played the 2nd Portal, did you like it at all? Last one. How is the stabbing/shooting/impalement effect done? 9) sometimes with practical effects like stopping mid take and replacing the arrow or knife with a fake one. OR sometimes with CG. The people who do all the effects and Special effects are AAAMMMMAAAZZZZIINNNGGGGG!!
Do you ever get a little scared when the walkers are walking towards you, even though you know they're just people with makeup on? How was it doing the well scene? Did you actually go down attached to a rope or was it just a lot of editing? This is off topic, but, every time the show takes a break for a few months, is that when you film the next season? Or at least, half of the season? 3) The make up on our show is so amazing it's hard not to do a double take when you see them. Especially during the well scene. Greg Nicotero didn't let me look at the walker before we started the scene, so when I finally got down the well it was pretty ridiculous.
Do you hate Lori (as a character, not the actual actress) as much as everyone else? Also, what would be your weapon of choice during the zombie Apocalypse? I think it's great that you hate Lori. When I hear something like that I smile and think about what an amazing job Sarah Wayne Callies has done and also how fearless the writing is with her character. What I find interesting about TV and the audience reaction sometimes is that everyone tends to want each character to be likable or consistent. Even with villians, if they are consistent, they kind of like them. Then, when a villian displays some sort of warmth, they go bonkers because they love the idea of a villian with a heart of gold. But how come it's harder to swallow when it's a good person that isn't consistently good? I remember reading the comic and HATING Lori. I hated her because she was bipolar; irrational in one moment but then suddenly rational the next. Loving one moment, and scornful the next. But then I realized as I took a step back and looked at the whole that her character is completely necessary and makes for interesting drama. They are in a zombie apocalypse. They are going to be inconsistent. People are going to mess up. People are going to be irrational. People are going to be selfish. People are also going to be good. Makes for interesting TV.
Hey Steven, congratulations on being the number one Glenn in my life. Questions? Yes, I have them. I'll talk a bit about how the whole role came through for me. I had just moved to LA about 5 months prior from Chicago. I was waiting tables and such, booked a couple of commercials, and was heading into my first pilot season.
How did you wind up getting the role of Glenn? My manager, got me an audition for this ABC pilot, which I ended up going to test for. For those who don't know, "TEST" means that you are basically in the running for the role. They work out your contract, tell you how much you'll make, blah blah blah...all that stuff then you go in and you do your final audition in front of EVERYONE. The studio, the network. It's CRAZY.
Have you or any of the other actors accidentally (or not so accidentally) injured a zombie extra while filming a zombie kill? So I went in there and did the audition for ABC and I literally thought I couldn't have had a better audition. I walked out of their fist pumping. I NEVER fist pump (unless I'm playing hockey and I scored an outstanding goal).
What was your favorite scene to film so far this season? Least favorite? I went to Denny's to go celebrate. WOO DENNY's! I was mid way through a stack of pancakes when my manager called and said, "We'll get the next one buddy." I was so bummed.
My question is: in a show full of complete stereotypes (Rick is a cop stereotype, Daryl/Otis as redneck stereotypes, T-Dawg as the black stereotype, Herschel as the southern gentleman stereotype, etc.), how has Glenn managed to completely break the mold and not conform to asian stereotypes? He's a unique, awesome character. Nice question. I probably can't speak for any of the other actors on their characters. But as for Glenn, I think it comes from the fact that Robert Kirkman created a pretty great character. When it comes to me personally, I am blessed to be able to play a character like this because in the industry they are sometimes pretty heavy handed with the racism or stereotypes. I think whats great about Glenn is that he is just a person. He isn't a stereotype or an asian person. I think the writers did a great job walking this fine line of calling out the fact that Glenn is Asian, because to not do so would be almost overly-sensitive, and fizzling out that fact because he is an American boy.
Could you hand me a screwdriver? Flat head.
If something was to happen to Glenn that gets him killed, how would you personally as an actor prefer to be killed twice? Like what kind of death scene would you like to play if it was totally up to you, both as human and walker? I'd love to have my death be via explosion. I'd be on a motorcycle and a heard of walkers would be chasing me down a highway. They would also be on motorcycles (it'd be way down the line, when the walkers eventually figure out how to ride). I'd look behind me and say, "Oh F-" but it would cut to me looking ahead, right before I said the F word, to a giant Chevron semi. I'd look back one more time. Grit my teeth, then pull out a comically large stick of dynamite from my pant leg. It would say, "TNT" on it. Trinitrotoluene guys... come on. Then I'd take an large match, I'm talking like 3 feet long and drag it on the ground to light it. Then I'd light the stick of dynamite and throw it at the truck in front. I'd do a front flip with my motorcycle over the blast and the blast would project me on to the road in front of me. The explosion would kill the giant walker biker hoarde and I would look back in satisfaction.
How was your experience at Second City? I just started taking classes at the Chicago school. Any advice you can give in getting the most out of Second City? YEEAAAAHHHH!!!! CHICAGO!!!! SECOND CITY!!!! CHICAGOO!!!!! I love Chicago! You're going to love SC. The best advice I can give you is to create your own material. Take those classes, get plugged in with some people you click with. Create a group. Write some bits. Put them up in the skybox or anywhere. And just enjoy yourself. Chicago is great because unlike LA. You have so much more opportunity to put yourself out there and be seen. Granted, in terms of TV/Film it doesn't have as many opportunities, BUT you are able to learn on the job in Chicago whereas in LA, it's not as easy to book gigs. I learned so much there and I'm so glad I spent my first four years there after college. I got to tour, I got to write, I got to improvise. Stuff that I might have been able to actually get a chance to do consistently over in LA. Enjoy it!
I have a giant crush on Glenn. Does that mean I have a giant crush on you? >.> But for my real question: What's it like being the only Asian in the show? Does it even matteaffect anything? Thanks! It's kind of funny how coming from outside in, people to notice that I am the only person of Asian descent on the show. But to me it's all pretty normal. I'm American and other people on the show are American or British. We are all people. I'm not trying to be soapboxy about this question but I think the most important thing for me is for people to realize that it's all people at the end of the day. I am a person. Everyone treats me like one. Glenn is a person. Everyone treats him like one.
You are always so humble about your role, and I think that speaks volumes about who you are. Do you ever watch the show and think, "damn, I'm a badass!" or do you constantly judge yourself? (As I would surely do.) I hate watching myself. Seriously. That stupid...stupid.. face. But thank you.
There's a scene in episode 2-8 (Nebraska, first episode after the walkers are let out of the barn) where you're talking to Maggie about Sophia's death and how it is a chance to move on. You say the line, “We've lost others...but this is Sophia” and you sort of smile and do a little laugh. I remember thinking that was a very interesting way to play the scene. Can you speak to what your character was thinking at that moment and why you chose to play it that way? This was a particularly hard scene for me. The director and I would talk about this scene, coming at it with our own ideas. We collaborated about it and Clark, the director, explained it to me in a great way, which is that Glenn in that moment is the window for the audience. He gets to be the reaction that the audience would have. How ridiculous is it that out of all the people that could have died, it was Sophia? Sophia? I think the smirk/laugh comes from kind of a plea and realization at how ridiculous the situation was. In terms of my own acting. YEESH. I have a hard time watching myself. I hope that explains some motivation?
Hey Steve! It’s Cole from Kzoo! Glad you’re doing the AMA. You still playing/recording music? Hope all is well! Whats up! So glad your name is peaceboner. I play some music still.... Hope you're well man!
I'm a 21 year old male, who is trying desperately to get on the show. I have 12 weeks left in the Navy, and would like more than anything in the world to just be a walker. How do you think I can go about this? (pretty selfish question I know :() [email protected].
Everybody is going to ask you about the show, not that they shouldn't, because it's incredible, but I'm just curious as to what kind of car you drive? Are you a sports car guy, a sedan guy, an SUV guy, truck guy, motorcycle guy? What a freaking awesome ass question. I drive a sedan. I drive a Nissan Altima. I know lame. But I call it my hobby wagon. It helps me get around to all my hobbies! wow! I used to drive a Nissan Xterra with a front grille guard when I was in highschool and college. I also used to wear stripped neckties loosely over my pink abercrombie polo. I've done a bit of growing up. I also smell less like the store now!
Steven, just wondering what kind of music you listen to. Maybe the top three bands/artists you can't get enough of right now? Thanks! Wilco "The Whole Love" Childish Gambino "Camp" Bon Iver "For Emma, Forever Ago"
How's life working with the legendary T-Dawg? Irone Singleton is the man. Great actor. Great human.
Have you read the graphic novels at all? If so, do you feel the show is going in the right direction with the characters as compared to their fates in the novels? I have read the graphic novels. I think the direction that the producers and writers are going is fantastic. You gotta remember Robert Kirkman is in the room with them and Glen Mazzara is awesome. Also, all of the writers are awesome. No question that they will make good story as it should be see on TELEVISION. The mediums are different too so you got to take that into account in the way you tell a story. Would you want to read something and know whats going to happen already? I wouldn't. I think the show is in great hands.
So we all now how Norman smells, how do YOU smell? lol. I smell like bear taint and reese's puffs.
I am currently at a job that I would consider crappy. Glenn also had a crap job as a pizza delivery boy. What crap jobs have you had in your life? Any cool stories? I used to work at an Assisted Living home. It was rewarding and traumatizing. I got to meet some of the sweetest people and talk to such wise folk. It was definitely rewarding in that sense. But on occasion I had to wipe butts. Older butts.
Steveyeun83 , why 83? Thats when I was born. 1983. Also, steveyeun was taken. I will find him.
Does Lauren Cohen smell wonderful? She smells like essence of lavandar and chamomile mixed with a bit of swedish fish.
When you become famous do ex-girlfriends and people you've parted ways with come out of the woodwork to either hound you or talk bad about you? No I haven't had any of that happen. People are generally supportive and are great.
Is there anything on the internet you wish wasn't there? I think if you put out good, you'll get back good. Let's just hope they don't find out about all the murders.
I recently saw Sarah Wayne Callies on a college humor video, with plenty of other actors from other shows that have spoiler-heavy content. If a site like college humor, funny or die, or heck, maybe even 5 second films, asked you to cameo or even do occasional things with them, would you find the time to participate? Absolutely.
One can arguably say that your character's relationship with Maggie on the show is doing more for Asian guys than Jeremy Lin. How does it feel to put the team on your back? Jeremy Lin is legit.
Best advice for a young kid looking to go into acting? Man. I am no person to give any advice, but of what I've learned in this short career of mine is that you have to know yourself. Understand, your strengths and weaknesses. Know where you can get better, know where you can polish and then work on it. Put yourself out there. I think a lot of people think it's a waiting game. It's not. Also, don't worry about the "hollywood hustle" as much. Schmoozing and stuff doesn't really do much. Just do good work. Check yourself. Be kind. Good luck!
Hey Steven! What was it like being Sheldon's roommate? Very fast.
Pick and choose! McDonalds or Wendys? Favorite color? Favorite color? What did you want to do as a kid? Xbox, PS3 or PC? White Wendy's Blue Blue? SportCenter Anchor Xbox.
How did your Asian relatives, and the rest of the "community" feel when you said you wanted to be an actor (initially, like in high school or whatever)? My parents were not thrilled. They did however let me do it. I am so blessed to have loving parents, who can bust your balls one minute and support you the next. They are amazing. I remember my parents were so worried that I would starve the rest of my life. I would get lectures from other parents and my family about how I should be going back to school and looking at other things. I think it IS hard. But for me, I just knew that this is what I was supposed to be doing. And it happened. I can't be more thankful.
Was the portal reference your idea, or the writers idea? Do you sometimes improvise your lines to make your character more appealing? Do you play any other video games? Favorites? Do you browse reddit sometimes, or is this your first time on reddit? That reference was a la Scott Gimple. @scottmgimple.
Hi Steven, I work at an Asian American magazine and we'd love to interview you. What's the best way to get in touch? Message me!
Steven, You would be my hero if you answered my question. Do you feel that playing the role of Glenn that you have a responsibility to the fans? As a fan yourself, do you try to consider the source material or just what the writers give you? I"ll be honest, when I first got this role, I was real nervous because I didn't want to mess it up. But with the help of good writing, good direction, good editing, good everything, we all worked it out. I hope people continue to like the portrayal. At this point, it's kind of part of me now.
You seem to have mastered the "Why is it always me?" look. Was it mastered through acting or life experience? Haha...I dont' know. Maybe through life?
I'm pretty sure I've come to late for this to be answered, but I've always been curious, how do you do a crying scene? Do you actually have to force yourself to cry? For me I've used music. OR I just link it to something real. For our show it helps that we have such close bonds with the actual actors so it's kind of easy to see how we would be affected if they really did go.
Since everyone has already asked the ?s I was going to ask... I will ask a silly one... did you really have to swim in a pool of caramel?! :p. Yes.
So... What are your thoughts on the movie "Rampart" staring Woody Harrelson? Haven't seen it yet, but I will because Jon Bernthal is in it. And so are his dogs.
Hey Steven, My name is Justin. I am half korean, my mother is from Seoul, my father was an american army man. What part of korea is your family from? Thanks man! I was born in Seoul in a neighborhood called BongCheonDong. My dad used to be an architect in Seoul until we moved to the US in 88. Thanks for watching and for the nice words man.
